Gary Stevenson @garyseconomics was Citibank's most profitable trader in 2011 by predicting there would be an increase in economic inequality. Now, he spends his time exposing the inequality embedded into the global economic system. |

I'm cynical he's the most profitable trader when wiki suggests he was only bank a few mil in bonuses.
Doesn't make him wrong. CBA to listen ... My reading list is too long as it speaks... Just starts me off cynical. |

What are the figures for this cash economy that is destroying Britain?
Amazon’s main UK division has paid no corporation tax for the second year in a row.

"Amazon’s main UK division has paid no corporation tax for the second year in a row."
Amazon owes no corporation tax in the UK because they spend all of their profits on investment. They spent over £1.6bn on infrastructure in 2022. That's money that created UK fixed assets, and guaranteed UK jobs and services. |

Amazon’s tax avoidance could have cost the UK economy around half a billion pounds in 2021

The point is billions and billions!
The U.K., along with its so-called “second empire” — its overseas territories and crown dependencies — is responsible for nearly a quarter (24%) of such losses, making it “the world’s greatest enabler of global corporate tax abuse

https://www.icij.org/investigations/paradise-papers/tax-havens-could-cost-countries-4-7-trillion-over-the-next-decade-advocacy-group-warns/" you're bouncing which may be confusing your points
The DM suggets the 24bn is revenue. That's not the normal number to base a tax rate on.
(Imo a revenue tax when a firm is above xbn may be a good idea)
Have Amazon done some clever accounting to move a UK profit? Possibly. The article says they don't disclose profit but the US co is loss making.
That's one set of questions.
Is the UK connected to territories that allow one to reduce taxes massively. Yes we are via BVI etc. How much of this missed tax is UK tax ? Not sure. I'd imagine many conpanies use these havens. Not just British.

"The point is billions and billions!"
It's not much of a point.
Amazon made billions and billions, and also spent billions and billions, meaning that they made almost no profit, so they don't owe much tax.
Unless your point is that big companies are bad just because they're big. |
