Censoring Star Trek

An episode of Star Trek was not aired in Ireland or UK in 1990 due to a line which talked of the 'Irish unification of 2024' as an example of violence successfully achieving a political aim.

An example of censoring due to the political situation. There are many more examples of censoring which we may never know about.

If people can't see a futuristic sci-film for what it is, we definitely have some big problems in the society.

Still 30 years is a long time. Would the episode be allowed to be broadcast today?

"Apparently it was shown on BBC in 2007"

Dunno if that's true. Just read it on fandom.

Not surprising that the subject was put across that way though is it? US media is often geared towards encouraging division.

They’ll be a few years out with their prediction, but it’ll come right in the end

They also censored certain music tracks Like John Lennons war is over, and protest songs depending on what is occurring in the world.

Data is an android thriving to become human in his own way, so the episode concerns freedom fighters who have exhausted diplomacy and turned to violence, they involve the federation by ki1napping dr crusher and threatening to kill her unless the federation involves itself in the peacekeeping process.

So data asks is it the good to turn to violence when one cannot get their way through diplomacy citing the troubles as an example.

In 2007 the beeb aired TOS (the original series) TNG DS9 and voyager on a Friday night after midnight showing 3 episodes every Friday.

I can sort of see why those in charge did not show this during the height of violence. However to me it looks like Data's theory on this particular issue is wrong. It looks to me that more has been achieved by the ballot box than the bomb. I certainly do not know much on the subject but it does appear that since they engaged fully in the peaceful political side of things they have grown ever since and now the dominant group

Sinn Fein is the political wing of the IRA they both acted together one bombing the other by taking part in elections.

The UK tried to ban SF and censored their voices on T.V but they now head the NI parliament, to me it shows that the IRA changed their tact and left civilians alone instead targeting no 10, and canary wharf so the gov made peace since they became the target not us.

Your memory is faulty. The last attacks on the British mainland were the Ealing attack and the BBC bombing in 2001, and before that the Manchester bombing in 1996. All of them targeted at civilians.
