UN now funding and harbouring terror

Britain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Finland joined the United States, Australia and Canada in pausing funding after UNRWA, the UN’s Relief and Works Agency for Palestine, revealed an investigation had been launched into 12 members of staff who allegedly took part in the 7 October attack led by Hamas that killed 1,140 people

BBC interview last night with Bonnie Click was very enlightening. They claim UN funds were used to build the hundreds of miles of tunnels in Gaza

I think it's naive and wrong to say the UN have been funding terror, it's probably more the case that funds meant for humanitarian issues were diverted..

That sadly has been the inevitable truth in all areas of aid whereby it's known that some of what gets there is pilfered by a minority but the bulk gets to those in need..

It is of course wrong what's happened and the UN and others need to up their game in relation to such..

That is a fair call, but it begs the question on what checks and balances the UN were completing.

Cement and building materials meant for housing, schools etc used to build tunnels, and the fact that everything going in to Gaza goes through Hamas, I would have thought evidence that the construction had taken place would have been a prerequisite.

If they have been checking nothing or their staff have been reporting back lies, then it has been funding terrorists through neglectful organisational policies.

As I said they need to up their game..

Sacking a dozen of the lowest level won't cut it and personally when any organisation says our in house investigators will be robust etc that's corporate speak for we will chop a few down the food chain, sideways move others within and learn lessons..

It stinks of high grade bs..

According to the BBC those people were sacked for taking part in the 7th October massacre. I don't think the agency would have done that so fast without solid evidence but that's just my opinion. If I understand the article correctly they seem to also say that UNRWA have a union over there which is controlled by Hamas. If as has been suggested that aid money is being used by Hamas for tunnels etc then that needs looking at too. If UNRWA know about this money diversion but did not act then that's another problem. As usual the innocent will suffer.

Not now funding and harbouring terror. We have been doing this for a while always assuming that lack of money or opportunity led to extremism but no extremism like racism is illogical

Concerns were raised back in 2006 about giving Hamas aid and they were ignored by those who thought enough aid would make them adopt American style democracy.I think we can safely say that it failed.

Oh & Houties in Yemen are terrorists not the standing Government controlling over 70% of a country of millions & Saudi Arabia backed by the USA hasn’t been blowing the shit out of another International state since 2015 killing 300,000 of the poorest people in the Middle East, they’ve been fighting terrorism....& 3,2,1 you’re awake”.

When the IDF first went into Gaza they quickly discovered the UN cement bags destined for new build projects was being used to reinforce the tunnel systems.

Iran is providing weaponry and funding.

It isn't hard to find the videos that show the bags in situ, this is actually old news. I also said it was the IDF, and thank you for the isight ref, 2 parties disagreeing or providing false information.

How do feel about the actual story, donations have stopped to the UNRWA

Based so far on groundless accusations.

I wonder if it's Isreal accusing them..

Anyway, do the civilians who took no part in 7 October attacks deserve to starve to death?

Because the countries mentioned are culpable of assisting in ethnic cleansing. Even more shocking in the wake of the haulicsust commemoration that in 2024 it's going to be repeated.

Even more shocking that people here appear to think that's okay

Has there been any proven connection between the agency and hamas? Or is it *just* they had employees involved in the attack ?

(Which is high. But also, one could see hamas seeking to get people inside so could be a degree of self selection)

So far just accusations, but even of true, does it justify condemning the palisitinians.

if funds are being redirected it creates a real dilemma. And creates questions.

It 100pc were being redirected I'd guess most would be saying don't carry on funding.

Which then ctreas the question as to what level of redirection is acceptable.

"

Based so far on groundless accusations.

"

Are you suggesting that UNRWA have dismissed people based on groundless accusations? The question isn't whether the accusations have legs, but rather how long those legs are

"

Anyway, do the civilians who took no part in 7 October attacks deserve to starve to death?

"

No. They are the real victims.

But perhaps you misunderstand the remit of UNRWA. The immediate food aid is not going to be affected by these dismissals, their own internal inquiry and the pause of funding.

"

Because the countries mentioned are culpable of assisting in ethnic cleansing.

"

The ICJ has not determined that and has not demanded a ceasefire. Do you trust them, or only when their findings agree with your feelings?

"

Even more shocking in the wake of the haulicsust commemoration that in 2024 it's going to be repeated."

You clearly have no concept of how the Holocaust was different. In many ways. Would you make that comparison of we were not discussing Israel?

The faster Hamas is dealt with, the faster the REAL victims, the innocents of Gaza, can have a proper life. Imagine a world under Hamas. If you think that is in any way good, then you're in denial as to the real problem. Is Israel blameless? No. Have Israel killed thousands of innocent Gazans? Almost certainly. But two things need to happen for the innocents of Gaza to live peacefully. Eradication of Hamas and restoration of autonomy and self determination under a credible governing body.

So what if they did!! The people there are trapped like rats, and treated as such!!! Any funding towards gaining their freedom and independence from the colonial countries that support this bullshit! There not terrorists!!! Their fighting for their right to life!

Nobody else was going to do It for them...

Ask yourself!! What would you do if you were trapped in a room! And your abuser periodically just came to inflict pain and misery on you?

Would you do anything to escape?

"So what if they did!! "

UN agencies have a specific need to act in accordance with certain rules. For many obvious reasons.

Nobody would bat an eyelid if a local charity supported Hamas or even a large NGO did so. But UN employees using UN resources directly in the Oct 7 attacks strikes at the heat of what the UN must project in order to be legitimate. That is why they have been seen to act.

The only tool countries have to hold them to account is funding. Hence the (probably forthcoming) demand for an overhaul or replacement of UNRWA. Hopefully it will go from being a tool designed to keep the Palestinians in a perpetual state of underclass into something that will enable them to thrive.

Trump ended UNRWA funding and called for an overhaul, nothing happened because others increased their funding.

This is exactly what ex Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick's said when interviewed last night on bbc, she was in trump administration at the U.S. Agency for International Development. She appeared very clear about Hamas syphoning off and receiving money from UN, used to build tunnels etc

Are you suggesting that UNRWA have dismissed people based on groundless accusations? The question isn't whether the accusations have legs, but rather how long those legs are .

I base it on actual investigations and impartial conclusions. Not just because the IDF or someone else "says so'.

No. They are the real victims.

But perhaps you misunderstand the remit of UNRWA. The immediate food aid is not going to be affected by these dismissals, their own internal inquiry and the pause of funding.

Good news, if the internal enquiry and evidence is impartial also

The ICJ has not determined that and has not demanded a ceasefire. Do you trust them, or only when their findings agree with your feelings?

The ICJ has told Isreal to stop the IDF from committing war crimes and to preserve evidence if they do and to prosecute suspects. That does not mean I cudents did not happen. Netanyahu condemned the ICJs ruling, that says a lot.

You clearly have no concept of how the Holocaust was different. In many ways. Would you make that comparison of we were not discussing Israel?

Yes I would! Any country committing acts like this is equally as bad.

You don't seem to understand the meaning "happening gain"

The full line "this must never happen again" was from the UN when referring to never letting this happen again reffering to the haulocaust. But has happened again .. to some extent in Africa, Europe. And now Gaza.

The faster Hamas is dealt with etc....

If a two state solution was implemented thered be a proper governing body. But

Netanyahu has taken Isreal down the route of endless war.

A two state solution sounds far from perfect but a lot better than what's happening now. In the meantime

Netanyahu is doing his best to scupper that by increasing illegal settlements in the meantime.

You seem to think that destroying hamas the sooner the better. There was a much better way to deal with hamas, without generating so many casualties. But you like many others here and Isreal can only see the mass bludgeoning of palisitinians to achieve it. This way will generate war for years to come.

Yes a thing called war

You do attack the enemy until they are defeated not drive them off until they decide to do the same thing again.

Israel is protecting it’s children from violent savages ever threatening them not merely moving the threat two months into the future

It's not a war.. it's a slaughtering rage .

You say war , but where's the palisitinian air force or navy?

Isreali jets bombing fleeing civilians is not a war..

More like Guernica in Spain in the 1930s!

That's right all those 10s of thousands of women and children being bombed by Israel are the "enemies".

That's the problem that most of us have.

If someone was charging you with a sharpened stick would you ask where was their gun? .or would you take any action to defend yourself?

When the enemy is intentionally hidden with the support of the populace do you send men into that populace hoping for a fair fight?

Actually curious as I did hear a lot of people saying this and people like me thinking it was rubbish were in the minority.Never could find the source and I doubt it was Isreal that started it.They kind of latched into it as a way to make their citizens feel more secure.

"Has there been any proven connection between the agency and hamas? Or is it *just* they had employees involved in the attack ?

(Which is high. But also, one could see hamas seeking to get people inside so could be a degree of self selection)"

I've only seen about the employees involved in the massacre on 7th October. Having employees involved in this could be seen as some sort of link but I have not heard any claims that the agency was actually involved itself. They do seem to believe the accusations given they have sacked those alleged to be involved. Maybe it should have been a suspension while they investigate

That changes things how? If Jews were not demonstrating then you would be okay with it? What's your question?

People of all faiths, races and nationalities are both for and against a ceasefire/this war/Hamas/IDF... What's your point? One could equally trundle out the "Son of Hamas".

Hamza Yousaf has said that the SNP will continue to donate to the UNRWA, pursuing the SNP’s primary policy of “looking to see what England is doing and then doing the opposite”.

The SNP has just decided to behave as if Scotland were an independent country, whether its inhabitants want to be one or not. Yousaf is deluded and thinks that he is providing global leadership from his corrupt little fiefdom.

Meanwhile another Labour MP suspended for offensive comments about Gaza. Can Starmer keep his nutjob MP’s under control until the election?

The labour MP was suspended for suggesting Israel are committing genocide in Gaza. Not a wild comment at all given that South Africa took Israel to the UN court with this exact allegation and it wasn’t chucked out of court.

The SG decision not to withdraw funding is correct. Too many countries are pandering to Israel because we want to be aligned with the USA. The number of civilian casualties is appalling and these people need help.

AT BEST, it's like someone with a major platform (press/show host) referring to an accused as guilty at the start of a trial. What would happen to them?

"

Maybe there is a better way to help, and UNRWA is not actually helping the cause as much as they should be.

There is no question that the people of Gaza, the Palestinians generally and also those in neighbouring countries need help. Both immediate urgent help and more strategic assistance. So long as the immediate needs are met by some organisation (which is less Hamas-friendly) now is a good time to rethink what can actually benefit the Palestinians on the ground in a meaningful way. All parties need a reset (including Israel, Egypt, etc.). This might be the one chance to break the cycle.

They’ll have completed most of their genocide by then.

I get why Labour is shitting itself and overreacting over anyone criticising Israel because of all Labour’s antisemitism in the past. However people conflating the Israeli state with the religion of Judaism should be aware that they are separate entities and it’s legitimate to criticise one without criticising the other.

If the Israeli state is hell bent on wiping out Palestinians then that’s fucking genocide. If it happens around the same time as holocaust Memorial Day then that’s unfortunate but it is what it is.

WSJ says that intelligence reports say that 10% of UNRWA’s 12,000 staff have links to Islamist terror groups.

And 49% have close relatives with ties to terrorist organisations.

Hamas has thieved $1 million of UNRWA supplies since October 7th.

Trump stopped aid to the UNRWA in 2018, and Biden reinstated it in 2021.

Something else that Trump got right.

Biden has been funding Hamas and the Iranians.

You don't have to believe Israel. The UNRWA clearly do. What difference does it make what nationality the staff were? UNRWA employ 13000 people in Gaza, I'd assume the majority are Palestinians.

Israel provided UNRWA with evidence of involvement, UNRWA took the step to dismiss 10 employees.

Do you think they dismissed employees without credible evidence?i do not beleive what isreal say ,what im wanting to know is where those ppl suspended palestinian ?

You don't have to believe Israel. The UNRWA clearly do. What difference does it make what nationality the staff were? UNRWA employ 13000 people in Gaza, I'd 1eq1zassume the majority are Palestinians."

yes the unrwa do beleive them,my point on the nationality is that they may have thought more of their country than their jobs, and if its true then they deserved to lose their jobs

No I think we generally would expect our govt to be less corrupt than those of third would countries, for example - but for some reason people seem to think that ours would be less corrupt than equivalents/peers as well.

It is about the most up to date mainstream news on the subject. If you want to educate yourself further, albeit with biased sources, go to the Israeli and Arab media sites. In a nutshell, the Israeli reports are damning and the Arab reports advise Israel of lying and point out that UNRWA existing is more important than there being a couple of bad apples, maybe, who are justified anyway.

In a nutshell, the Israeli reports are damning and the Arab reports advise Israel of lying and point out that UNRWA existing is more important than there being a couple of bad apples, maybe, who are justified anyway."

Thats the point ive been trying to make, that they both cant be right and until we get independent sources who can verify the accusations then no one really knows the truth

The fact that UNRWA had acted on this suggests that there is some serious credibility to the allegations. But your view is also valid.

"The court states that Israel must let in aid, and then suddenly a story appears that allows aid to be stopped.

Funny old world.

UNWRA do not have a monopoly on providing aid to Gaza"

12.11 EST

Canada has announced a new C$40m (£23.5m) funding to provide food, water and other humanitarian assistance after pausing funding for the UN’s relief agency in the region.

Canada has suspended “additional funding” for UNRWA following allegations by Israel that some of its staff were involved in the Hamas attacks on 7 October.

The bulk of the new funding will go to the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO), Unicef, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the UN office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs.

No argument there.

The point was that there are many other aid organisations, and that defunding UNRWA should not mean defunding Palestinian relief. This should also address the shocking state of affairs for Palestinians in other Arab countries, where having UNRWA has kept them in a perpetual state of being second class citizens (e.g. Lebanon).

Do people not find it strange that the countries that supply arms that kill people also grant aid support to those same people that are being bombed.

disaster capitalists in motion me thinks.

Ive never seen a genocide being broadcast on T.V before, I watched it everyday for about two weeks, but I kinda got bored I got used to seeing dead bodies and dead children I got desensitised to all the killing and the rhetoric around this genocide.

There something going on here it is not what we are being told and as usual the truth will come out.

it happens time after time throughout history but still few of us remember, how we were lied to, then the excuses, then sorry we will learn from our mistakes, all whilst shopping for a big mansion house with 24 hour security.

Couldn't make it up.

BBC interview last night with Bonnie Click was very enlightening. They claim UN funds were used to build the hundreds of miles of tunnels in Gaza

"

You mean the countries that are funding and arming the genocide fabricated an excuse to stop the Main Humanitarian Organisation from saving lives so that the genocide is accomplished quicker without international witnesses from the inside.

According to UNWRA,99% of its staff are locally recruited Palestinians.

Next you'll be calling it a genocidal action when someone stubs their toe.

The problem with this language is that you're making a complete joke out of, and undermining the meaning of, the word "genocide".

You think I do because I don't appear radicalised to hate Israel or the Jews, the 2 things are always intertwined...

You still haven't answered the question

Israel and Jews are not synonymous words. Why do you assume I hate Jews?

Also you're doing the Piers Morgan sneaky trick. Every time the crimes of Israel are mentioned his response is "But do you condemn Hamas?" knowing fully that if they defend Hamas they will be charged by the thought policing law that Prohibits you to say anything positive about Hamas.

So if you had one grain of genuinity you wouldn't ask that question to anyone here in the UK.

Another strange argument!

I'm not genuine because you don't like to be challenged on your beliefs, or the legitimacy of hamas human rights?

Which part of my reply you don't get? "

If I was being 100% honest with you, around 82.8%

For the sake of this conversation, the following is the reply that baffled me more than the others:

"Haven't you heard that pedos have their own Rainbow flag? and the wider Rainbow lovers get offended if you call them Pedos? You should call them Minor Attracted Person instead is what they are teaching kids at school.

I believe there are few categories in the Alphabet people who consider themselves straight. And they have plenty straight supporters"

Could the targeting of children, so the ability to reproduce is limited in the future to further the Gazzazans race, and the jailing of children again cutting the ability to reproduce in the future be considered genocide?

In other words if someone killed all the children in my family and we are over the age to reproduce, then it would be the end of my family line, this is happening in Gazza now.

So I wonder if that can be classed as genocide?

Talking of deflection and look over there.. Fancy simply answering the question?

I've read your posts..

Normal morals, ethics and their values doesn't sit well with far-right sanctimonious clap trap.

To you 1,900 Israeli civilians are worth a lot more than the 270,000 palisitinian civilians

You and your far right wing pals waffle and pull out obscure rubbish in a pathetic attempt to justify sustaining the massacre in Gaza.. being apologists for Isreal .. when the fundamental truth is "two wrongs don't make a right"..

I’ve just remembered, it has been early evening Fridays in the past that you start to get a bit lairy…

…when you sober up you…

What are you suggesting here, dude? If you’re gonna attack someone for being d*unk, shouldn’t you have some evidence? (Not that it’s any business of yours if someone has a drink)

What do you think the other poster was alluding to when he suggested 'it has been early evening Fridays in the past that you start to get a bit lairy'?

As always, seeing it just one way

Both those quotes were from the same poster though?"

You're right, I thought one was in response to another. My bad.

What I was suggesting is I have seen the uncalled for rant that he sent my way at the same time on a Friday before.

His post was inaccurate, accusing and personal, but feel free to ignore that and focus on the person who was a recipient of that rant.

Well done comrade
