Surely this is nailed on, you can see Rishi offering Britannia Hotels the millions were wasting on hotels to house migrants in chalets!
Three sites closed in a matter of weeks and the Southport site had months of bookings for 2024 apparently! |

"Perhaps our intelligence suggests that there will soon be a need to house lots of Russian prisoners of war. Pontin's would make an ideal concentration camp." war crime, surely?

"Not buying it, months of bookings..?
Place is a dump.."
I think it would be lovely! Do the place up to a good standard, house channel crossing migrants there until processed, a little longer if we can't find accommodation. Employ local people to provide the cleaning, cooking and entertainment.
Win win. |

I know I am a snob but I really can’t think of anything worse than staying at a Pontins or Butlins type place. |

As I said, I know I am a snob, but that sounds awful to me. Any kind of “camp” type environment, with entertainment laid on and a “clubhouse”. Nah not for me. |

When I'm having a break, the hardest thing I want to consider is whether to have the eggs Benedict or Royale on the terrace or in my room, I'm not one for having to fight for a table at breakfast.
A holiday camp would trigger me |

Mine loves eggs Royale! Not keen on Benedict and wouldn’t touch Florentine.
It does depend on what you are used to. When I was young my parents had little money and we used to go camping. I hated it. Flooded out on the Isle of Wight. Communal shower blocks. Vowed never to go camping. I am lucky that I am well off so can afford to be more luxurious. I know I am lucky (although I worked hard for it). |

Ahem, cough..
We went there many moons ago after the mother in law saved up some vouchers from a red top and gave them to us as a gift..
And she told the kids too who were 7 and 4 I think..
It was 'ok', the kids had a whale of a time..
Never gone again but horses for courses etc and it's worth remembering that for some it's the only holiday they can afford.. |

Indeed and while I would not consider it for myself, I do not look down on those who do. If they like it and it makes them happy, then fill your boots. |

I know you weren't, my impression is such traits aren't in your nature..
On the other hand we love camping, although we've moved on from the days of tents long ago.. |

Done the whole five star thing, not really for us tbh..
A mixed bag of foreign travel and short breaks here plus the flexibility to pack the van and do parts of Europe and here too..

Glamping (ie middle class camping)?
Possibly opening myself up for abuse from some but in the last 30 years the only time I have slept under canvas was on safaris in Kenya and Tanzania. Posh safaris obviously lol |

The whole glamping experience looks to be purely to attract the middle class etc to shell out big bucks to go back to nature in whatever the accommodation is..
There's some ingenious stuff been adapted of course..
Similarly in the pandemic when places where trashed by some who thought it ok to venture out to the lakes etc and leave there pop up tents behind as they were tricky to pack away along with tons of waste because the bins were full..
I sound like a snob now.. |
