Ooh so many but I gotta puck up on Buddy’s insistence on calling the orange buffoon MR Trump. Always makes me laugh as an unearned signifier of respect for such a dreadful human being.
The multiple Nazi’s weren’t/were fascists/right wing were good (well my posts were good )
Actually I will say the loss of several posters has made the forum progressively less entertaining. One comes and goes then returns with a new profile/name but has been absent for some time now.
A few others really kept the arguments going across multiple threads. All getting rather dull and less lively lately!
Maybe Sunak and Starmer are just too boring to comment on? We need Johnson and Truss back to liven things up! |

"Let's not forget the polarised Brexit threads and all the vitriol they generated. My prediction for 2024 is that we haven't heard the last of Brexit. "
Full impact not yet felt as so many “border/customs checks” were postponed. Should now be implemented in 2024. I am buying shares in popcorn! |

The Brexit banter is my favourite too.
I admire the people who try to suggest Brexit was a good idea as an exercise in debate, and I marvel at the people who genuinely think it was a good idea. |

When addressing a former President, the correct way is... Mr....
I know we're not addressing him but buddy isn't exactly wrong. |

You are completely wrong about the media I am not interested in such things or waste my time perusing. it is common practice in any intellectual debate to keep decency and civilatiy but 10 times out if 10 the left have no shame in bringing the debates to childish name calling. |

You must be cognisant enough to notice that it is usually the progressive liberals that label and name call, those are the nicer ones too! There are some that call for all sorts of horrid things to be bestowed upon anyone who does not follow their script.

You should try reading the right wing media. You'll find quite the opposite. You should also look at the right wingers on here. Big fans of personal insults and name calling.
Remoaners, Loony Left, etc etc etc.
I hardly think omitting the "Mr" when talking about Trump is A. Purely a left wing thing, or B. All that insulting. |

My favourites are where there is actual evidence we can discuss
Some that jump out are Coutts/Farage (although I expected it to be resurrected after the Travers Smith report), Rwanda SC judgement, and Mone (although o suspect this could also feature on 2024)
I also enjoyed the political window discussion (albeit I was banned from fab at the point!) And the resulting Nazi thread.
I still have no idea of we have consensus in what right and left actually means. |

So many good ones but the one that still sticks in the mind was not so long ago and was about Nissan where one poster claimed the Sunderland plant sells more cars to the UK than all of Europe combined and that's why they are staying. They never did clarify where they got such figures from. In fact never heard from them again on that thread |

I don’t think I have ever called any ex president “mr”…. Former president is about as formal as I go… but then in theory you are supposed to do that with anyone in office… former AG, former ambassador, former governor ect ect….
Anyway to me its Biden, trump, Obama, bush 2 (or dubya) Clinton, bush 1 ( or HW), Reagan, carter
It’s not a deference for the position, you already know who I’d mean and it’s less typing
Altogether I don’t think I have seen buddy use the term mr in front of any other president than trump…. But I will now look out for consistency |

I don't think it "jabs people in the ass", so much as it's just weird and snivelling to address Trump as "Mr." when firstly he's not reading this (I'm assuming you're aware of that) and secondly, if you were on fire, he wouldn't piss on you to put you out.
Also, frankly, doing stuff because it annoys people is a pretty childish thing to take pride in. |

Yeah but no but, doing stuff because it annoys people only 2 posters have issues with my writing style which has never changed on these forums, so I have to conform and not use the Mr or Mrs when addressing anyone because it upsets posters all of a sudden. |

Have a good look and you will realise I am consistent in addressing with the Mr or Mrs, but if it jabbs some in the ass because I do I'll carry on.
Again, it doesn't upset anyone. People are, reasonably, wondering why you're being weirdly formal. |

How is it weird, calling someone they have never met or likely to meet a ridiculous pet name that they made up or heard is what, normal. |

Well it's the norm, so yes. Constantly addressing politicians by a formal title isn't even in most newspapers' style guides anymore. |
