Chatting about the covid inquiry and the lost WhatsApp messages
Ain't they automatically backed up?
Or if government owned phone, put on a server?
If they are lost, what's happened to the official secrets act?
Why did the government put an injunction in? And lost ...

So it was a mass deletion? |

The fact that government devices are using 3rd party apps to send confidential thoughts / responses, is out there in terms of risk.
I would also expect the tightest of scrutiny on the data being stored on servers that are not in the control of the UK government.
I would not be surprised if there is a protocol to wipe devices completely if a risk of compromise has been made.
Making it extremely plausible to have a device wiped in seconds should a high profile user wish it. |

It's encrypted.
Deletion would take all users to delete the messages.
There's no reason they cant get the sane messages from other people's phones.
All a bit kf a bon story really.if they wants boris's convo with Cummings, sunak, Hancock etc etc. They can get them from all those other peoples phones. It would mean everyone kf them having to delete those convos. Which there's no indication of happening.

WhatsApp doesn't manage backups, the user is expected to so that and we expect the average MP's tech skills are not that good. Government IT probably have a hard enough time getting MP's to not share their passwords. |

True, as believe it depends on what make of phone, and type of account...
But considering the positions of power, should of been automatically done, I truly expect it has, and block deleted! |

I thought the rules contained that any government conversations must be recorded and preserved no matter what the format.
Boris, Rishi and Simon Case (who is on sick leave, thus could not attend the inquiry), Lord Bethal (who lost his messages at the sometime as the others, but posted a message from the same period that he claims he lost them when having a spat on X with M Moone)
All lost their messages at the sometime and the same period.
Penny Mordent stated that she noticed BJ messages had been deleted in 2021 in a conversation with him she insisted it was not from her end.
So again it looks like the tories have been naughty yet again, regarding the duty to preserve messages and records pertaining to government duties. |
