AI algorithms would explain why claims are largely denied at first stage.

I'm currently watching Sunday with LK about AI. It has opened my eyes as to why claims are not looked at holistically but from a point system. All to save money on admin costs.

The MP denied it was happening cos she spoke to Secretary of state which inc DWP.... But NOT the DWP ??. It was the DWP who raised concerns about the algorithm. Why would she take notice of those minions

AI and algorithms, not set qualifying questions? That is all it will be, if = 0 goto No, if = 1 goto 0

It is so easy to blame technology people don't really understand.

I, for one, know how algorithms work. It'll be how the qualifying questions are scored. Eg can the person walk without getting breathless? When the question should be "in a week does the person get breathless when walking more than half the week?"

In the first question the answer is yes and scores 0. And yet as the second question shows, has disabilities.

You mean like that NHS app from Babylon Health that was promoted by Matt Hancock.

Under investigation by the Sunday Times which was allegedly a glorified spreadsheet.

Cost the NHS millions, now company has gone bankrupt.

Just a thought, but AI is far more advanced than mere algorithms. Back in 1983/4 I had to write a BASIC computer programme and draw the algorithm for part of my computer studies O-level. Technology is so far advanced from that my qualification isn't worth the paper it's written on.

What we were discussing via algorithms is as simple as that but on the LK programme, it was discussing the frailties of AI, as being discriminatory.

Maybe AI could be used to match the unemployed with open job vacancies? Imagine how that would reduce the benefits burden on the taxpayer.

It's totally dependent on the data used to "teach" the system. You have to come up with a totally un-biased, and accurate set of data. I doubt that exists in the DWP!

It's the reason so many things don't work for all the people they are applied to. Not limited to AI, let's face it, seatbelts, drugs etc. are developed with non-inclusive data meaning they are often not as effective (or dangerous) for anyone who is not an average male.

Facial recognition has been shown to have racial bias etc.

Until we get these issues fixed ML/AI, for this type of application, is going to be a problem from day one of deployment.

"Maybe AI could be used to match the unemployed with open job vacancies? Imagine how that would reduce the benefits burden on the taxpayer."

Good idea.

Also if AI can identify billionaires, multi millionaires, Tories and other tax dodgers when they're avoiding paying.

That'll really made a difference.

I prefer your idea. After-all, the minions have to sign commitments to be looking for work and provide evidence of doing so, which makes AI intervention obsolete in that case.

The LIMA software that provides the backbone to the WCA used by the DWP is a known computer fraud in the US & was banned in 15 states there as it was shown as a mechanism to deny Health insurance claims & deny the disabled their entitlements-JUST what is happening in this country with the DWP.

If anyone is interested in reading more look up John Pring & MO STEWARTS work on the WCA & the role it has played in demolishing the our welfare system and the states adherence to a policy and technology that is death by computer for a lot of people.

Why is the benefit system ‘a Burden’ with a fraud & error rate of 0.7% despite the introduction of universal credit(fraud & error is actually higher under the UC system than the Legacy systems)?

When £37 billion is claimed fraudulently by the parliamentary VORY overseen Boris Johnson during the Covid era NOT A WORD IS SAID by anyone inside or outside the Parliament Gravy Train but let some poor schmuck claim even a £1 over their allotted pittance then one group are entrepreneurs & the others are ‘Scroungers’ and worse.

The ‘Scroungers’ actually get jobs in Parliament rather than cut it in the real world-see Iain Duncan Smith for the evidence

Sorry about the confusion:the LIMA software used in The Work Capability Assessment is fraudulent & even though the DWP created UC to combat fraud and error it is the same or higher than the old system.

We've shrunk our state, to such an impossible to work effectively extent over recent years. Investment into AI that's discriminatory and largely not independently verified and accepted, should be regulated for use by official bodies. Just because the known fraud rate is around 1% doesn't mean its not way higher. The council estate I grew up on everyone was a "single" mom.. The capacity to investigate fraud is just not there and mainly realise on people getting grassed up..

Why are you apologising for the TORIES?

They rely on people like yourself to echo back their agenda DESPITE them knowing they are spreading lies & disinformation to justify their actions.

WHO as you are no doubt aware are-Ironically-THE biggest fraudsters & parasites and thieves ever?

All they banged on about in 2010 when Tory party was seen as the new broom who were going to eliminate waste Eliminate FRAUD end “The Debt” in 5 years by introducing ‘AUSTERITY’ :-

They failed in ALL of their targets:The National debt DOUBLED,the welfare ‘reforms’ were & are a total con as the state has joined with the corporate private sector-Fascism-to use technology to deny entitlements.

If we aren’t entitled to benefits WTF do they continually say we are entitled to them then?

The Nazis weren't the first to master propaganda and definitely not the last, as we see it so blatantly imposed on us in the UK. It's tragic that people who are the targets to be forced to get closer to destitution by the government and billionaire right wing media, are the ones who unthinkingly buy into it, as their puppets.
