All day yesterday, all day today, all the news channels seem to be obsessed with the Gaza/Israel issue. Fine, I understand it's a big issue but has nothing happened in the UK that's worth reporting? |

JK Rowling said women won't be as keen on voting Labour since Lisa Nanding suggested they shouldn't allow transphobic bigots in the party.
And the Price Of Wales got a blue peter badge for something I couldn't be arsed to read about.
Situation normal.

"
Fake news network is working overtime I see.
Rowling's tweet replying to Lisa Nandy- "You said r*pists should be transferred to women's prisons if they self-identify as women. You called Women's Place UK a hate group. Given that you're one of the biggest reasons many women on the left no longer trust Labour to defend their rights, do you stand by those comments?"
Somehow that got translated to "JK Rowling said women won't be as keen on voting Labour since Lisa Nanding suggested they shouldn't allow transphobic bigots in the party"

I posted her actual tweet which gives the context of why she said so. Picking just one line of it and misinterpreting it... Isn't that what fake news on the internet is all about? Where did Rowling say that her reason is Lisa Nandy wouldn't allow trasphobic bigots into the party? |

It IS a huge issue that war has broken out in the Middle East. When Russia invaded Ukraine, its all that was in the news. In the UK four Jewish schools have closed because of the risk to their pupils. Does that count?

And yet, it's being reported everywhere so news outlets think it's worthy. I think it's worthy that British Jews are so worried about attacks and abuse. Anti-semitism is a big problem with the Labour Party and that's reported on - why don't you think this issue is worthy? |

The threats are sufficiently serious for both the Prime Minister and Sue Braverman to become involved

"All day yesterday, all day today, all the news channels seem to be obsessed with the Gaza/Israel issue. Fine, I understand it's a big issue but has nothing happened in the UK that's worth reporting?
It IS a huge issue that war has broken out in the Middle East. When Russia invaded Ukraine, its all that was in the news. In the UK four Jewish schools have closed because of the risk to their pupils. Does that count?
https://news.sky.com/story/two-uk-jewish-schools-close-in-interests-of-the-safety-of-our-precious-children-12983327
No it doesn't count. None of the 4 schools received threats, not were any of them targeted by protestors. They haven't closed because of an identified risk, they've closed out of 'an abundance of caution'.
It doesn't count as UK news? Interesting.
It counts as UK news, but the OP asked for things that were "worth reporting". I was saying that it didn't count for that.
And yet, it's being reported everywhere so news outlets think it's worthy. I think it's worthy that British Jews are so worried about attacks and abuse. Anti-semitism is a big problem with the Labour Party and that's reported on - why don't you think this issue is worthy? "
I’ve had BBC World News On since about 7am. The first I knew of this was on here. Is someone’s fear or an attack rather than an attack newsworthy though?
Personally I think not because YOUR fear is not every followers fear. Four schools close, meanwhile no doubt hundreds of Jewish people will be getting on buses & tubes with hundreds of Muslims to go to work in London & other cities around the UK. If a few do not because of THEIR fear it’s not newsworthy is it.
I’m white & grew up in Brixton & was there during the riots & walked around going about my business of life. Someone else may have chosen to stay under their quilt. Neither of these things are newsworthy & tbh I’d say there’s more likelihood of these school buildings being attacked by errant misguided fools seeing it in the news than it would have been had it not.
Expect at least one of them to burn now. If so what caused it? The news? The events in Gaza? Or just disgruntled/misguided/angry kids looking to show support in any way they can?
On another note BN has given residents 24hrs to flee Northern Gaza basically because they are going to flatten it.
The UN have said this is totally against the human rights act, the Geneva convention & pretty much every current rule of war you care to name & WILL likely result in war crimes investigations. So should America stick to showing Israel support or should they also show concern over where this is heading & turn the fleet around?

"JK Rowling said women won't be as keen on voting Labour since Lisa Nanding suggested they shouldn't allow transphobic bigots in the party.

Not sure why you think only "nouveau liberal" can read beyond the headline of a story. But there you go.
The rest of your post seems very angry, which is not like you.
I posted her actual tweet which gives the context of why she said so. Picking just one line of it and misinterpreting it... Isn't that what fake news on the internet is all about? Where did Rowling say that her reason is Lisa Nandy wouldn't allow trasphobic bigots into the party?
That's part of the context. Feel free to read up.
Anyway, is this supposed to be a fun topic, it just another rage-at-"nouveau liberal" fest?
Whatever the fuck a nouveau liberal is.
You've just opted to call people transphobic bigots. At least own up to it. Nandy of course won't own up to the crap she's spouted.

I think if you look to the other threads on the subject you will see mine & others thoughts on what constitutes a “Citizen”.
Basically to myself & it seems some others you are an American/British/whatever citizen with dual Nationality if you are visiting somewhere you are a citizen of those countries. However I f you’ve sold up everything, have no home now in those countries & are permanently residing in Israel & have been for years you are not.
Calling someone who has retired to Israel an American/British citizen despite them being resident in Israel for twenty plus years is done for one reason & one reason only.

The threats are sufficiently serious for both the Prime Minister and Sue Braverman to become involved
There are similar issues in Dublin .

Punishing innocent populations, due to the actions of a few is a war crime, in which our governments are complicit.
More and more the G7 are ignoring the rights of the people, and doing their own thing, giving excuses as to why we should accept murder.
The old good and bad story, modified now to we shall also kill them and the population around them.
Blocking food water and amenities, and giving 1.1 million people to move in 24 hours.
No one is above the law no one and those who support criminals like our government are the ones who profit. |

I think you've confused me for someone else.
I haven't expressed an opinion on this thread.
No, I don't think so. There's nothing in the news story about "transphobic bigots" - you used that language in your comment.
"JK Rowling said women won't be as keen on voting Labour since Lisa Nanding suggested they shouldn't allow transphobic bigots in the party."
It's in the news. At no point did I call anyone anything.
Ok. I went and looked again - my apologies as you're correct. Nandy signed a letter which used the terms in 2020 - to expel people with gender critical views from Labour. "

"JK Rowling said women won't be as keen on voting Labour since Lisa Nanding suggested they shouldn't allow transphobic bigots in the party.
The nouveau liberal mind control army who stifle independent thinking, are excellent liars
In a reply to Nandy on twitter.
“Given that you’re one of the biggest reasons many women on the Left no longer trust Labour to defend their rights, do you stand by these comments?”
Not sure why you think only "nouveau liberal" can read beyond the headline of a story. But there you go.
The rest of your post seems very angry, which is not like you.

No, News sources are saying women won't vote Labour because of the second statement. And I'm not going to get any more wound up about it because it's accurate to say that one of the reasons women will not vote for Labour is because of MPs like Nandy suggesting it's bigoted and transphobic to say men can't be women. Or that only women have cervixes etc etc. |

An attack happening would be news, even if that attack were just someone shouting threats. But people being scared of an attack that hasn't happened isn't news, it's gossip.
Anti-Semitism in the Labour party is reported on firstly because they did actually say/do something, and secondly because it suits some media outlets to bash the Labour party. |

Media is always twisting words to make a catchy headline. They did the same with sunaks comments during his speech about sex/gegder
They do it because they know a big % of people either won’t read the actual article to see what was really said, or they just want to agree with whatever the media makes up because it aligns with their agenda |

Very much so. Sunak and his team know that, and knew how his comments would be reported. Knew they would energise his supporters. |

2) Lisa Nandy also said that trasphobic bigots shouldn't be allowed in the party -
JK Rowling clearly says women won't vote Labour because of the first statement. She did not make any reference to the second statement. And yet somehow people are saying JK Rowling said women won't vote Labour because of the second statement.
You can say that and I am not arguing with it. But the original poster said that JK Rowling said so, which is a lie.
I didn't, I posted what's in the news.
JK Rowling did not say that women won't vote Labour because trasphobic bigots shouldn't be allowed to vote. She said women wouldn't vote Labour because of the prison policy that Lisa Nandy mentioned.
So the original post was clearly fake news. I don't see why people are doing mental gymnastics to still prove that the original statement wasn't a lie.
I can confirm, that I have no opinion, of what you imagined my opinion, of JK Rowling's opinion, of why women won't vote labour is.
Hope that helps.
It is not in the news.
It is. The other person even posted a link for you.
JK Rowling saying women won't vote labour and Lisa Nandy saying Trasphobic bigots shouldn't be allowed in the party are two separate things and that is what the news article says. Your original statement "JK Rowling said women won't be as keen on voting Labour since Lisa Nanding suggested they shouldn't allow transphobic bigots in the party" is false. Nowhere does JK Rowling or the news article says so.
I dunno how to help you. It's all in the story.
Not sure why you seem to up for a rumble about the news.
It's not in the story. You made it up. Can you find me the passage that says "JK Rowling said women won't be as keen on voting Labour since Lisa Nanding suggested they shouldn't allow transphobic bigots in the party"?
About why I am up for a rumble, I just want to show how the left wingers blame the right wingers for spreading fake news while they also do the same pretty often.
Let it goooooooooooo!
I will now. I was just curious how far people will go to defend their lies when truth is shown right in front of their eyes."
Well that's kllled the debate. |

Not UK news but this would have been big news back in the day. New Zealand has moved to the right following the recent election and Australia have rejected the Voice vote.
Argentina next I suspect. |

"JK Rowling said women won't be as keen on voting Labour since Lisa Nanding suggested they shouldn't allow transphobic bigots in the party.
I think you've confused me for someone else.
I haven't expressed an opinion on this thread.
You shared this fake news, didn't you?
"JK Rowling said women won't be as keen on voting Labour since Lisa Nanding suggested they shouldn't allow transphobic bigots in the party."
Nope.
Why don't you start a new thread to have a go at me in. And we can leave this one for the light hearted news?"
You could just keep it private |
