Just heard it compared to Alan Partridge when he found out his BBC contract was not being renewed so he started reeling off TV programme ideas to see what might stick.
They are sounding a bit desperate. The secret weapon will be tax cuts (the old put up then put back down before the GE trick). |

"Unless SKS makes the mother of all mistakes, it does, not matter what is promised at the conservative party conference"
Don't worry, unless SKS can make sure the press, the establishment, the big money corporations that he has their interests at heart, they will destroy him before the next GE. |

Saw this posted on Twitter in a discussion on Liz Truss and what appears to be her popularity at the conference...
“Truss is the catalyst. Someone else will replace Sunak if he doesn’t return the Party to conservatism. High taxes means people might as well vote Labour. At least the money is spent on taxpayers and not given to their mates.” |

"here we go promissing the world to us i think there must be ab electon looming do thet take us for fools
It worked the last five elections. It'll likely work again."

Wrong.
'It worked' because the opposition was rejected as being unelectable. |

I mean, strictly speaking it worked because of FPTP. |

A system which has historically produced stable governments.
Still doesn't alter the FACT that the (then) opposition was unelectable. |

"Ooh capitals so it MUST be true!
Saying that I do agree Labour lost the election in 2017 and 2019 more than the Conservatives won it.
"
2019 I’d agree with, for sure. Labour were lost (and not because of Brexit)
2017 Labour did incredibly well, with an excellent _anifesto, while May floundered around the worst Tory _anifesto in living memory. |

Yeah but Corbyn! He was in part his own worst enemy as on the one hand appeared to have strongly held principles (which deserves respect regardless of whether you agree with them) but always flip flopped around when confronted on “difficult topics” so a bit like nailing jelly to the wall. His history was also a godsend to the right wing media who destroyed him. For ME he was too in thrall to Momentum, but then I am not a socialist. |

I understand your point if view but don't share it. To me its far to far down the line for the Tories to save this. Unfortunately although I think it's Labour's to loose I also think it's more the Tories failing than Labour winning which is concerning for the future |

I'm in agreeance here. Labour made great strides in 2017. Absolutely blew it in 2019. If they don't find themselves in Government next year, they'll have lost that too. |

I hope your right. I don't see the Tories any more or less horrific and self serving than they were at any other point during the past 13 years. And they kept getting voted in. |

I think they have definitely got worse though that's just my personal opinion. Unfortunately the irony is the likely new government (in my opinion) is basically just a change it tie colour |

I agree and if labour win an outright majority I don't have a problem with it. It'll give the Tories the kick up the arse they need I hope. However I'm concerned about the possibility of a liblab coalition and what the libs would demand. |

"here we go promissing the world to us i think there must be ab electon looming do thet take us for fools" . Luckily the electorate are not stupid and make rational decisions . The results of the last three elections are proof of that. No ome can argue with the votes cast on election day. What happens the day before or the day after the count is irrelevant .
The current government will be elected for another term . Most people are better off now than they were thirteen years ago. |

Nope I don't agree.
The opposite of the Tories isn't Labour.
But sure, I have no opinion if you want to blame Labour for people voting Tory. |

I agree, policy wise Labour under Starmer are pretty fucking useless. Basically Tory-lite. I think the main difference would be less fear based rhetoric aimed at foreigners, and less self serving corruption. |

"Thanks Fabs, for saving me from having to dirty my hands with the Daily Fail comments. I can just come here and read braindead rubbish if I ever feel the need." . Luckily we live in a free society. Most rational people would recognise that the Daily Mail has a substantial readership ( around two million daily ) . It is only to be expected that not everyone will agree with the points made by their various columnists . However what matters is the majority view. They are an extremely successfull newspaper and employ many talented journalists . The newspaper has also won many press awards.

Well, if it were the blue of the old - pre-Thatcher - conservatives you might be somewhere near right. But this bunch are a much more vicious breed, so, no, a government under SKS will not be basically just a change of colour. |

We hope that will be a difference but there is no guarantee. They may be even worse (God forbid) or simply aim their fear based rhetoric at others whilst lining their pockets. Hope your version is closer to the actual outcome |

Labour lost the last election, as they sat on the fence too long over brexit. |
