Apparently he tried to give her flowers and she didn’t want them. People are suggesting it’s because of that |

Obviously we don't know the full story but it seems that the boy was rejected, he had a machete on his person so clearly pre meditated. Horrific , absolutely devastating for the girl, friends and family. |

The lad's parent (high odds it'll be a single parent family) should be locked up. Kids develop based on their environment, and the parent should be doing a much better job. |

Bringing flowers and a machete to meet a girl tells me you’re going to aim to either ‘Get her back’ or do this. It definitely feels pre meditated. Women talk so often about fear of rejecting men and it’s because if or when they do, the threat is that that man could kill them. |

"The lad's parent (high odds it'll be a single parent family) should be locked up. As many people on this website talk about and allude to, people co parent. |

You know that would be a *really* stupid precedent to set, right? |

Not at all, you're responsible for your spawn until they're 18. People are held responsible when their dog bites someone, the same should apply when their kid becomes violent. |

Had two teenagers stabbed and another hit over the head with a hammer last nite 2 min walk from my front door, the reason for it dealing, and when i say teenagers i talking 14 and 15 year olds, but what do you expect when the police and social serviceskeep making excuses for them instead of getting em off the streets, would not be at all surprised if there aint a murder before the years out |

It's crazy! I've always stood more on the left and believe prisons to be focused more on rehabilitation than punishment.
However new Yorks crime rate dropped dramatically with the new mayor who came down hard on juvenile crime as he said teenagers who commit petty crime with eventually become adults.
Obviously this wasn't a petty crime but teenagers who get 6 weeks in prison see it as a badge of honour. Give them 3 years and that will change their attitude. |

Arests are also up (be interesting how they achieved this)
Also, banging people up will likely decrease time in the short term. As they are inside. But whether it acts as a disincentive or whether it increases reoffending is yet to be shown. |

Depends on your situation,I had a friend that got 6 months for ABH (got out after 3 then on tag) he had a degree, a highly paid job so didn't quite fit in with the reoffenders. There were people in the that couldn't read or write and saw that from they were brought up they had no chance in life. He was able to get another job about 6 months after and kept his flat as all his friends paid his rent for him. He said it was horrible and stories about uk prisons being holiday camps are complete crap |

What do you think the chances or reoffending would have been if he friends wouldn't pay for his flat for three years. Or if he couldn't get a job ? |

Well this guy couldn't hold his alcohol but was peer pressured into doing shots etc. He then thought a guy had taken his coat and got into a fight. After it was broken up he threw a glass at him. Lucky it missed him but smashed and a shard cut his head. He doesn't even remember. You can get 3 years for abh it's a very wide scope.
But yeah he made a mistake and had friends and family supporting him. Not everyone has that |

Increasing prison sentences is all well and good except we don’t have the prison space, and we don’t have adequate prison resourcing to rehabilitate - especially vital in youth offenders |

If any one is interested there is a post on Linkedin by Charlotte Davies that may be worth a read as it gives a back story to what happened
Also it gives a way forward from it to try and stop the cycle.
Does not in any way excuse what he did as everyone knows that you should not be carrying a knife.

Agreed going off in a tangent but in my mates case he has no recollection of the incident. So wouldn't really apply |

A mate went to a police ststion as a school trip, part of the day was they would be put in a cell for 10 minutes. He said the experience was that bad, he won't ever knowingly break the law. |
