Think there will be some backlash from his comments:

Previously he has stated that as his wife is a private individual not in govt, then she should not be under scrutiny.
But she gave a speech at the Conservative party conference. That brings her into political territory. She is now fair game. Sunak is either being really stupid (and trying to be rather “presidential” in approach) involving her or he has some poor strategy advisors. |

Agreed, it does seem to be a foolish decision. Unless they've decided that she's already in the press spotlight, so they might as well use her. |

I would say ill judged. Sunak is on a hiding to nothing because he is rich. His wife is even richer. Father-in-law richer still. They are not like 99.9% of the people in this country because of their wealth. Most people know that they have no experience of normal life for most people in the UK. He cannot therefore really speak for them.
Trying to just paint him as a hard working family man is disingenuous and most people see through it.
I think the UK differs from the USA in this regard because Brits generally consider displays of wealth as vulgar. Sunak would probably do well in USA politics. |

I don't see anyone trying to paint Sunak as a hard-working family man, nor do I see either of them displaying their wealth. Is this something that happened during the conference that I don't know about? |

Whatever he says, within 24 hours the policy will have changed again. I say policy, but it's actually just whatever the hell happens to come out of his mouth on any given day.
- H2S is on.
- H2S is not on, but other connections will be.
- Other connections are not on, but H2S will join London to Birmingham.
- H2S will stop 20 miles north of Euston and 20 miles south of Birmingham New Street - it will be a railway that joins nowhere to nowhere.

Why would any member of the public have the slightest interest in any of hid wealth or that of his wife. It is irrelevant.
What matters to most rational people are the policies he purposes and how they impact the country . He needs to aim his policies at core voters and cut Corporation Tax in the near future . It is hardly sensible to distract investment by having a high rate of Corporation Tax.
As things stand he and his wife pay a lot more in tax than most people.
In addition they are unlikely to be claiming benefits so are making a net contribution to society.
The taxes which he and his family pay help the less well off in society . We should be extremely greatfull for their contribution . |
