What's the complaint?
The only job in the cabinet you'd really need the background experience in is the Attorney General.
I dont really remember too many secs if state for defense being in the army.

Have they.
So shapes no.
Wallace yes
Mordant no
Williamson no
Fallen no
Hammond no
Fox no
Portillo no
Rifkind no
King yes
Younger yes
Heseltine no( he trained but was given leave to become an mp pretty much straight out of training
I've no idea why we ignored labour in all this.
But you are wrong I am afraid. Tbe majority of them only served because of national service.

"And those before Younger back to 64. We’re ignoring those because?
Why back to '64? Younger was 30 years ago."
Presumably because the last national serviceman left in 63? |

I get that. But what happened 60 years ago isn't really relevant today.
Also, correction: Younger was 40 years ago. |

"Seems to me nobody can make a clear point in here about the problem with him being in this position.
Case closed?" . ;,, I suppose Shapps / Green could be classed as the best option in a remarkably bad bunch , , we were probably only a resignation letter away from Mad Nads getting the gig |

He's a poor MP and former con man perhaps? I mean I know there's not many good options but Shapps would literally go on TV humiliate himself as soon as Boris asked him back in the day and then the government would u turn a day later.
Not the kind of guy you want, unless you just wanted blind faith as an attribute. |

With the state of the country, after their Leadership of it for 13 years, the relative effectiveness of any of them is at a very low bar. Asset stripping and paymasters' needs satisfaction is where it's at. Clueless zombies just intent on self-preservation and enrichment |

I'm my experience this man is the guy you give a department to when you want it carved up. He does whatever he's told and won't IMHO be interested in looking after our military service people.
I watched his accounts on transport during the pandemic and was close to the detail. I was not impressed with his seeming lack of candour.
Also he pretended to be called Michael green to make a quick buck which seems poor to me for an MP...https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/mar/15/grant-shapps-admits-he-had-second-job-as-millioniare-web-marketer-while-mp

Pre-1964 they were of the right age to be conscripted in world war 2? It was not a career really.
Top military staff often prefer a minister who listens because they are not carrying their own military experience bias.
Least we forget our old buddy, Gefreiter Hitler, messed up Germany's attempt at world domination by telling his generals how to do it. |

I don't think there can be an expectation for experience of each cabinet post, I think historically there was more chance, but these days people tend to go into politics straight from Uni (possibly a problem here too).
However, the problem in recent years is that no-one has stayed in a post long enough to actually gain reasonable on the job experience of the role.

Not the same I am afraid. |
