"The EHRC report warns that many disabled people continue to face discrimination in the UK, and the situation continues to worsen, particularly in light of current cost-of-living pressures."

"Feels great to know the powers-that-be care. (We knew they didn't, but let's pretend!)

Perhaps they decided to attend via wheelchair so they could learn and empathise but got stuck on the plane.
(I really wish that was true!)
Says they will attend next March instead. See, they do care!

The report is from 2016, so it's also good how quick everyone has been to act about the democide of tens of thousands of disabled people with austerity and DWP policies. Imagine how much worse the findings would be now given it is seven years on when everything is (intentionally) so much worse? |

"Has the politics section been closed down?
Do you have an opinion on how the UK government treats disabled people? We're more concerned about the disabled people bit. "
I have and it's disgraceful. Look how they handled the assessments and the misery, hardship and mental illness they caused so many people. 'If you can move your finger' or indeed 'breath' you are fit for everything
But then again I have seen many on here expressing opinions supporting such an inhumane treatment because apparrently they read in their paper that someone was defrauding the system. Nothing more to say. |

That's partly what the UN have got to say to the UK Govt. That not only have they not acted on the report from 2016, but that the situation is actually quite a bit worse now, with the increase in cost of living and other issues in UK society. |

"Why does my opinion count, I'm merely pointing out that this is a political post
Your link in your original post literally has the word politics in it"
Most things in the news have a connection to politics in some way, don't they?
Your opinion counts because we'd hoped people would discuss and share their opinions (if they so wish, and accept you may not wish to do so). |

It is intersting to see posters on here criticising the government but making no attempt to say how they would like things improved or the cost of implementing their proposed improvements. It makes me assume that these posters are more interested in criticising the government as opposed to recognising the help already given.
It looks like these posters have not heard of PIP . There are in excess of half a million people in receipt of disability vehicles provided free of charge in exchange for the mobility element of PIP. Various adaptions are made to buildings and public facilities to accommodate the disabled .
Maybe instead of trying to score political points we should recognise the extensive help already given to the disabled by the government. |

PIP, through assessments, does not recognise all disabilities.
The reduced capacity for work is a misnomer, like another poster stated " if you can move your finger...". |

Like getting rid of platform staff at railway stations and ticket offices, so the disabled will have to ask the public to help them.
Yes dignified .

I think of it like this. For support if you’re disabled it there, however the barriers to get support prevent your from getting support in the first place.
Feels dodgy, probably is dodgy.

Have you ever tried to claim PIP?!
I am a wheelchair user yet qualify for zero help. I have paid for all my own adaptations and mobility equipment. My wheelchair cost me £4500 and I am responsible for all repairs. I paid for my car to be adapted and to have a hoist fitted. We have had to move house to a bungalow, which is costing us significantly more in mortgage costs.
Barrier to access are everywhere and the Govt perpetuate these barriers by doing things like closing railway offices, which are fixed, known points of assistance usually right at the door of the station. Has anyone tried to chase down a member of staff on a packed platform at rush hour, in a wheelchair? I have and it's absolutely terrifying and dangerous. |

Becoming disabled is the single biggest cost increase in my life. Having children x2 was much easier because you could buy second hand or have hand-me-downs. You can't safely have hand-me-down wheelchairs for active, every day use because they need to be bespoke sized for the individual. |
