Sue Gray was found to have apparently breached the civil service code by discussing a role with Keir Starmer without telling her Whitehall bosses, a Cabinet Office investigation has found.
Jeremy Quin, a Cabinet Office minister, said a civil inquiry found a “prima facie” breach of the code about outside interests to be clear and transparent – meaning an apparent contravention of the rules based on first impressions.
Gray was approached by the Labour leader about a possible role in October 2022 and had a conversation about it on the phone. She told the Cabinet Office about this in March 2023 when it became public that she might be offered a job as Starmer’s chief of staff, and subsequently resigned on deciding to take the position. |

Cabinet Office investigation carries no weight and Sue Grey took no part in it. ACOBA cleared her of any wrongdoing. The Cabinet Office has no power to decide anything. Its just so much foot stamping. |

total waste of time and effort. I think they are out to get her and try to discredit her in any way they can so as to try and link their findings into her somehow being biased when she investigated the partygate affair. Utter nonsence. |

I thought it had already been looked at and she was OK to proceed. If the breech is clear and transparent then why did the original investigation not find it. Also why did it take 5 months to report it? |
