Personally, this should have been a binary vote, yes or no.
As far as I am concerned, 286 did not consider the matter important enough to have voted, or could not make up their minds. They chickened out. Essentially, they are complicit by inaction. They consider the matter of lying to Parliament so trivial, they treated it with contempt. Each and every one of them are supposed to defend Parliament. Instead, they let it die in the dust and didn't want to know. This was not a vote to sit on the fence. It was a vote to say, "It's not ok to lie in Parliament" and they washed their hands of it.
.
Shameful. |

Brave Sir Rishi ran away. Bravely ran away away. When danger reared it's ugly head, He bravely turned his tail and fled. Yes, brave Sir Rishi turned about And gallantly he chickened out. Swiftly taking to his feet, He beat a very brave retreat. Bravest of the brave, Sir Rishi

"Speakers almost never vote as they are meant to be neutral and SF just collect there money and go home."
Tell me you know nothing about SF without telling me you know nothing about SF. |

It was perhaps 1 of the most important votes, reflecting the importance of democracy and it was treated with contempt by many. I noticed some recipients of honours that should be withdrawn, failed to vote, etc. |

The report itself was important, laying out what is and isn't acceptable behaviour, and setting a precedent for the level of punishment appropriate for the offences committed.
But the vote wasn't important at all. The man in question had already removed himself from post, so the recommended punishment couldn't be applied anyway. |
