"I am beginning to think some posters only come on when it's bad news for the uk.
"
Well you just started one so...!
Can you provide all the facts please, with links. We need copious amounts of documentation from reputable sources before we can actually believe your statement.
Also we will need exact terminology that is accurate, not open to interpretation, and doesn’t conflate common parlance with technical speak that may mean something completely different.
So is it the entire Eurozone in recession as implied by the thread title?
Is it just one (or more) country?
How do we know they are in recession?
Are they measuring GDP in the same way?
Etc... |

Yes. I believe the EU grew as a whole in the first Q" feels the more interesting comparison imo. And less of a story. |

No matter how clever you think someone is you shouldn’t just agree with them 99% of the time, that proves you have no original thoughts. |

"I'm with you in those thoughts. However, let's be fair here.
It's Ireland that's the issue, not the zone as a whole.
We have a budget surplus and near full employment in Ireland."
That's what made me surprised about Ireland as it was recently that I read about that. Thinking about it though, running a surplus just means spending less than what's coming in. It does not necessarily mean that GDP is going up or down. If it is going down as reported by the BBC by 4.6% then that good management of funds should help |

Aristotle was clever. The first person to read and then agree with Aristotle was not clever like Aristotle. They just agreed with him.
Andrew Neil is clever. Gully Foyle is not, he just regurgitates what cleverer people have said. |

So which is it then.
Hes a " clown who it's easier to point out what he gets right"
Or he
" just parrots the clever Andrew neil "
Nothing like catching some 1 in a trap of their own making.
Amazing isn’t it. There’s this clown on Twitter called Gully Foyle who is a vocal supporter of Truss! Saying that he only has c.7k followers so not much influence or credibility!
Again.
I asked you what has he got wrong so far?
I've asked this 3 times now.
What particular tweets are wrong?"
Probably easier to list what he got right or we’d be here all year |

"How is Ireland the issue?"
I would not say it's down to Ireland as such. The German economy may have shrunk by less in percentage terms but as they are a bigger economy I guess overall its a bigger hit to the overall picture. The 4.6% Irish fall was for the first 3 months of 2023 compared to the previous 3 months. Compared to the same period last year it's 0.3% down. Unfortunately still in the wrong direction but not as bad as Lithuania. |

I hear what you are saying, but if you stand on your head and look through binoculars at a tree that is half falling down you will see that things are a little different from that perspective.
Being a perfectly normal, pragmatic and normal thinking person, I don’t think that I should conduct cognitive and physical gymnastics to question things that appear perfectly reasonable. |

"I am beginning to think some posters only come on when it's bad news for the uk.

Two quarters of 0.1% reduction in GDP.
That is definitely a technical recession. In reality, it's stagnation within accuracy of measurement.
Still not a good thing.
Ireland hit quite badly by tech company investment reduction and redundancies. What was a strength, now a weakness.
Many of the other Eurozone countries (particularly Baltic's) hit hard by gas prices.
Germany taking a bigger hit and a much bigger economy. The question is probably more around what is affecting Germany so significantly. What do you think is causing that?
The UK was not in the Eurozone, was it?
Why not compare to the EU as a whole? |

That's my understanding too about both the tread subject and the timing of the report. That's quite a hit for Ireland and surprised there was not more on it when it happened. Hopefully it's just a blip |
