Anyone switching off their phones?
I will be.. not sure what problems it will cause for drivers, people who have secret phones due to violent partners, anxiety sufferers etc..? |

Thinking about it, it would be good to have notice so I could stand outside looking east so when the nuke knocks me on my ass i will get a burial inline with my belief.  |

Makes sense I suppose. With the amount of time kids spend on their phones it's probably a good thing that they'll get a warning that they've been abducted... might not notice otherwise  |

The UK version isn't just for national emergencies, it will be used for local emergencies too.
But it's only for 'danger to life' type emergencies. There won't be missing children alerts, or any of the other stuff they do in the US. |

Well I don't want to guess, and accuse you of something that's not true.
But drivers all know it's going to happen, so they shouldn't be overly distracted when it does. People with hidden phones really ought to have them switched off anyway. And anxiety sufferers can just change their phone settings so the the alarm won't sound.
I really don't see what the problem is. |

I received a severe alert yesterday. The phone alerts are awesome. Because it's instant. If you out and about doing things outdoors. |

I just got mine, which was bi-lingual, Welsh and English.
Brilliantly, the phone then started to read the text out loud, but since it didn't recognise the Welsh, it just spelled out all the words. It sounded like complete gibberish at the rapid speed she was talking. |
