Stranger things have happened. " It's a strange historical precedence. |

"Trump claims he will be arrested. So it's probably bullshit. And has called for people to protest.
It's their Right to protest if they want.
That could be a call for insurrection... " Doubtful |

When he called to protest on January 6th 2021, it ended looking like a coup d'etat. Luckily for you, a failed one |

When he is accused of much worse. That will emboldened the base. The optics is horrible. It does look like a witch hunt. Years later right before elections. It's dumb to charge him with that. Looks like it's going to be another volatile summer. Isn't politics great ? |

It's likely his way of stoking up the emotional ire of his fan base. It's probably not going to be on Tuesday that he's arrested but he can spin this out, until he potentially does, just as he's still spinning the fraudulent election lie. The perpetual victim. |

The charge on Trump is strange...
Michael Cohen paid $130,000 to Stormy Daniels to keep quiet on an affair she had with Trump. paying her that money for her silence is not illegal.
Him paying Cohen back and declaring it has legal costs is classed as falsifying business recored.
How should he have recorded it? I'm no Trump fan, but this does seem like "we will get him"

It’s not illegal as such, but he should have declared it as electoral expenses, which he didn’t…
Besides if you charged cohen for the same thing, and we know that trump was an unnamed co conspirator in that case, and you couldn’t charge trump at the time because legal advice was that you can’t charge a sitting president..then you have to charge him noe |

Let me simplify. Do you think a person should be prosecuted if they have
Committed a crime and there is enough evidence for a prosecution |

So you are arguing is that cohen did all of this without any knowledge of trump! That is stretching belief
But again.. we know that trump is “individual 1” in the cohen case! And that person was a co conspirator
And would you sign 4 cheques for 35000 without knowing what it was for? |

And would you sign 4 cheques for 35000 without knowing what it was for? "

If he had declared electoral fees would this be a none starter? |

"The charge on Trump is strange...
Michael Cohen paid $130,000 to Stormy Daniels to keep quiet on an affair she had with Trump. paying her that money for her silence is not illegal.
Him paying Cohen back and declaring it has legal costs is classed as falsifying business recored.
How should he have recorded it? I'm no Trump fan, but this does seem like "we will get him"
If it’s a crime he should be prosecuted
Which wasn't the question
The question is irrelevant if you agree that a crime should be prosecuted
Well, thank you very much for telling me my question is irrelevant, care to explain exactly how it is and who it is irrelevant too? Clue it is not irrelevant to me

Anything paid within 60 days of an election you are standing for has to be declared as an electoral expense… these payments to stormy Daniels were paid 14 days before the election
If he had declared it as an electoral expense, because they are a matter of public record anyone could have asked what the payments were for and he would have had to tell the truth (which is why the NDA agreement signed was declared to be invalid) |

Would they all disappear?
The New York case… probably
The 2 federal cases regarding handling top secret documents… maybe but that is so serious people have been sent to prison for handling less
The Georgia case…. No! That is so serious I think they will bring the case so he legally could not stand again! |

"Had a look on cpl of news sites this morning and nothing about him being arrested yet, whens it supposed to happen wana make sure im watching ive not had a good chuckle for a bit"
The reason why trump put it out is that his particular grand jury apparently meets on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon… so he speculated that all the witnesses had been called after Cohen testified…
But then trumps lawyers threw a Hail Mary by calling a rebuttal witness against Cohen.. and they didn’t meet yesterday

I think it depends on whether the charge is a felony or a misdemeanour…
If it’s just a misdemeanour.. people are going to argue was it all worth it
If it’s a felony… then shit may hit the fan… interesting to see trump come to New York and do his perp walk!

A ludicrous snippet from the BBC on why Trump supports might ignore calls to protest:
We've just heard Mike Pence say the indictment is no reason for people to protest.
And indeed many of Donald Trump's most fervent supporters not only ignored his prior calls to protest - they too discouraged mass demonstrations.
This apparent contradiction is explained by the high level of paranoia in pro-Trump spaces online. Many believe - despite evidence to the contrary - that the Capitol riot was instigated not by Trump supporters, but by federal agents and anti-fascist “antifa” activists.
Any protest will be infiltrated, their logic goes, and "false flag" violence will be used to paint them in a negative light. It sounds unhinged, but this kind of reality-free rhetoric is being broadcast by influential people |

This is the first of potentially a few indictments right? Jan 06th, document theft and Georgia still to come.
Maybe he will do a deal to serve time as long as he can build (and staff) his own prison. What was allowed for Pablo Escobar should be allowed for Trump lol |

I would never have thought that an American president would ever be arrested and treated like a criminal.
I remember Watergate Nixon caught bang to rights and pardoned by Carter.
World politics has taken a turn, things have changed, they would look out for each other in the past no matter what.
Now we have Trump who has a different narrative, lots of support from the American people, and he is some how their enermy.
Something about this stinks IMHO. |

That is very very close to saying that if someone becomes president they somehow are above the rule of law…..
I was going to not say anything until we know what he has actually been charged with … but comments like this are almost running interference over something that they know nothing about….
It’s blind loyalty… which is more dangerous!
This is the least of his worries… the Georgia case and the federal documents case are far more serious!
But if he does get charged with business fraud, that is a felony!!! |

I understand what you say and agree, but history states that people in power rarely face consequences, and I would be happy to see powerful people face justice rightly so.

I heard a brilliant analogy for what is happening
Remember that trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen was charged and convicted for the same thing, the DOJ said you couldn’t charge a sitting president, and trump was “individual 1” the unindited co conspirator in that case….
So if you charged “bonnie” …. Don’t you in effect have to charge “Clyde”
The irony just happens to be bonnie was charged convicted and sent to prison under clydes administration….. |

Right I see.
But I would still be amazed if he was convicted, because Bush, blaire lied to their governments got caught out but are still free, and trump gets convicted of paying off a porn star if the indictment reads that way, he had an affair just like Clinton.
My thinking is those Leaders did bad things, now Trump in the same boat and they who ever they are are trying to convict him, I just find it strange.
The only thing I can think of is Clinton, Blair and Bush kept to a narrative, whilst Trump did his own thing. |

"I would never have thought that an American president would ever be arrested and treated like a criminal.
So when I hear and read that trump is now facing criminal charges knowing this is rare, I think what is different here whats going on.

I just think that they do not want him to have a chance of being back in office, for reasons only they know.

"Started a riot
Lied to people
Bribed a call girl
Tax fraud
You name it he's done it" apart from starting a riot and even that is a bit debatable tax fraud, bribing people and lying to people isnt that part of being a politician? |

Which one would you like…
Breaking election law whilst committing business fraud
Trying to obstruct and tampering with a federal election
Holding onto national security documents he should not have… |

Never really understood American’s fanatical obsession with their political leaders. It’s almost cult like. Can some enlighten me?
If an ex-PM in the UK was charged with with fiddling their expenses return I very much doubt there would be a call for protests…
More likely people would shrug their shoulders knowing like buses there would be another ex-PM along in 5 minutes.
I guess it’s must be just the result of 2 party money dominated personality politics. That gives a limited choice between the right (Democrats) and far right (Republicans). I know there are other parties but they are so marginal that they don’t get a look in. |

The USA does not have a non-political Constitutional King like the UK and other countries so they invest their faith and lives in the politicians who become President.
Having your guy win the presidency is like having your team win the Super Bowl so they become wedded to a political flag not the policies or performance of the party and, like any football supporter, will follow unquestioning to the death. |

Sad to say you are right.
My daughter lives in the US. Her father-in-Law was a staunch Republican. She is an Accountant and showed him a while back a calculation that clearly showed that only those that owned companies or earned over $400,000 per annum (neither of which was him) would benefit from the Republican policies.
She showed him he would be better off under the Democrats. He still refused to change his vote because of a religion like commitment to the Republican party.
In the UK it has become a cult of personality after Johnson. Truss was a fine example of a woman who sold the ghost of Thatcher to the faithful. Her proposals were undeliverable yet they voted for her whilst the MPs, who knew well, voted for Sunak.
Give me boring but competent any day and I will still vote for whomever benefits me most. |

"41% of the population are independent voters. Including myself. There is no 2 team. neither side can win without convincing us.
How come US elections hinge on a handful of swing states then?" because we don't vote for strictly one party all the time. Pennsylvania is considered a purple state. Not red or blue. We are not staunch party followers.
