On a serious note, I live alone and have no kids. I’ve had the £400 energy thing same as everyone else. I’m signed up for universal credit (although I usually get a nil award every month) and I work full time.

It’s hard, but the people making it hard aren’t claiming benefits to feed their kids. They’re having new pools put in, and have millions in the bank.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Henry but you do know that around 40% of the people who claim benefits also have a job?. It’s not just you single English men that they’re fucking up the ass.

I think you’ll find the parasites aren’t those claiming benefits…. It’s the arseholes in power.

They’re the ones who’ve made it so that a huge amount of people who work now have to claim benefits to survive. Nothing to do with being lazy

The sick and disabled are lazy. Yes indeed. With the lack of NHS interventions in very serious cases, people have found it harder and harder to remain in work.

I have pushed my physical capacity and mental health to the absolute max to stay working FT, despite my disability, which is getting worse. My spine is a car crash. I have hip dysplasia. Deformed knee. Hypermobile hips, knees, shoulders and elbows. I have adenomyosis, endometriosis and triple pelvic organ prolapse.

If I could sustain life for my family on benefits, I probably would at this point. But I can't, so I keep forcing myself to keep trucking.

I get zero. Nil. Nada help financially with relation to my disability. I pay for my own mobility equipment. I have to pay for adaptations to my house, including an essential ramp to get in and out (but have to wait 30wks min just to be assessed).

Give it a try for a week and come back to me. I live in perpetual and continual pain. Every. Single. Fucking. Day. I am 37.

If you honestly think you could survive on benefits OP then go for it.

Really. Give it a try.

Or just stop reading the kind of media that makes you think all benefit claimants are living the life of luxury.

Jeez. The Tories have done a first class job with their smoke and mirrors and persuading people that the root cause of all evil in this country lies firmly at the feet of benefit claimants and immigrants.

Thank fuck nobody actually looks too closely at the country's accounts and sees where the money has really been going, eh.....

No, none of that namby-pamby accessibility. Have mobility issues? Just try harder! And there'll be no stupid H&S or discrimination rules either - it'll be the Daily Mail's wet dream writ large.

I feel the fact that 40% of the people on benefits are working is a slightly misleading number.

How many are part time?

How many have kids and don’t want full time work? Etc etc

I know a lot of people who struggle working full time or who are just on benefits and a lot of people who struggle working full and part time also on benefits So it’s not one size fits all.

What is disgraceful about that 40% is the economy has doubled in 40 years but most working people are worse off. Strange how the billionaire count has increased so dramatically and our wealth as a nation has disappeared.

We should not need tax or child credits . Wages should be higher it’s that simple. Benefits to stop you falling through the net and give support where needed ie. the guy with the bad back above. Dividends rule over wages. Now our infrastructure is mostly foreign owned those dividends leave the country making us poorer every year. GDP is not a measure of wealth in itself. It’s turnover.

Footnote. In a slight defence of the OP I have two distant family members who have not worked in 30 years because they are indeed lazy idle fuckers. They have played the system and in the end the system gave up trying to make them work. They have both been able to travel abroad regularly and one even had a mortgage given whilst unemployed. How is that possible?

They know to avoid me at family gatherings.

I'm intrigued which bit of the budget has pressed your buttons so.

As you mention no kids Id guess the child care. But that's to get people into work.

You see, this opinion really does make me uneasy.

I actually feel sympathy and frustration for people that speak like that, but my most overwhelming thoughts are this great deal of pessimism when i hear it, for the fact this 'opinion' is so widely spread and accepted as an actual reality, many do state it as this undeniable fact of why the UK debt to gdp is so high (currently as high as it has ever been since ww2). Yet this just is statistically not the case. It just dilutes the truth, and only fuels more infighting, negativity and is counterproductive.

It's much easier to compare your own situation with that of a tax dodger, long term unemployed, benefits cheat etc. because you can easily find yourself amongst such individuals in everyday life. ***Don't misquote in thinking I'm saying everyone on benefits/unemployed is a scoundrel***. Whereas other immoral, lazy, criminal individuals that have high profile jobs and influence aren't as relatable, but definitely exist and are having huge an impact also.

The point I'm getting at though isn't that necessarily. I think blaming one group or certain individuals is useless as I genuinely don't see that is the issue or cause, much more the effect that the balance of fairness seems so stacked against. It is much rather a chronic failure of many, not just politicians, to plan and invest enough resources for the future. In society, everything is done as a reaction I find, firefighting and plugging gaps has consequently lead everyone to turn to looking for people to blame. That is why it makes me cynical, I don't see that changing so soon.

I would suggest though to anyone who does feel strongly that vast numbers that are illegitimately siphoning money through benefits etc., that they should do something about it by the only means I know of and join up in government and councils and make your voice heard.

Not that many years ago, the state of the country as it is now would have had people protesting in their ten of thousands. Think back to the Poll Tax, its financial impact on people was going to be negligible compared to what people are paying out now.

The Conservative Government has realised that fomenting culture wars keeps people divided about things that don’t matter to keep them distracted from the things that do matter.

If they have convinced you that immigrants, or trans people, or Black Lives Matter, or political correctness is wrong, why would you then protest against that same Government for their disastrous policies that have made you poorer?

The OP has basically been groomed into thinking that other people are to blame for the situation that he finds himself in. It’s true other people are to blame, but it is not the people he is blaming who are responsible for the situation he finds himself in, it’s the Millionaires and billionaires who hold high office in Whitehall who are collapsing living standards for ordinary people.

When we start to think of other ordinary people as “one of them” rather than “one of us,” we need to pause and remember that ALL ordinary people have more in common with each other than the people in Whitehall who appear to view us all with utter contempt.

Hi all..

I’ve read all the very interesting posts and it has gone way of what I meant...

I didn’t write ever detail done to the nitty gritty..

If you are desperate and need help to keep a roof over your head and food and can work you should find any job...

I haven’t been groomed misinformed by the tories...

Labour just means strikes...

I help loads of people as a builder do jobs on the cheap or free...

Am I a mug who knows...

I grew up with my parents having 3 jobs each to keep us...

Once again saying/telling the truth about a subject gets the people who are doing it trying to justify why they are doing it.

And going on the attack against us workers and taxpayers..

Hope you all have a nice summer holiday abroad...

Bye
