Gary is in hot soup again after comparing the new Asylum policy to Nazi Germany.

But is he right. It's all over the news

Lineker is right in relation to the type of language being used by Braverman who has previous..

And it's a sad fact from history especially the Holocaust that the way the powerful use such language is deliberate in scapegoating ..

Deflection from a government who are desperate to hold onto power..

Whether he has a point or not, he is employed by the BBC and so, really, he should learn to be rather more careful with the language he uses. The BBC is supposed to remain impartial, and while he's never really been bothered about keeping his views to himself, I feel that his particular choice of word could get him into some trouble on this occasion.

There are a lot of people on Twitter calling on him to be sacked - expecially given that TV license payers are funding this blokes £1.3 Million salary

Regardless of his views he works for the BBC and should really know better than to post them on social media. They’re supposed to remain impartial. Rightly or wrongly so many celebrities have been sacked for sharing what can be seen as controversial views and opinions over social media. He knows that and still did it.

I believe anyone can pass comment on government policy?

Which parts of the new laws, which breach international law do you agree with?

No refugee, no asylum seekers is illegal. There are almost no legal channels on to this country, one of the official channels from Afghanistan has never been used. We have 0.02% of the world's refugees coming here, less than 46000 people came on boats last year, they aren't the problem

If Garry Lineaker wants a job in politics maybe he should pursue that, as it is he’s a football pundit/tv presenter, he should stick to that, or resign to follow another calling.

The content and subject of the comments isn’t relevant, I would have the same opinion if he had made a statement supporting the asylum system.

Stick to football Lineker...

As mentioned above the BBC are meant to be impartial... cos he's the highest earner at the Beeb he feels he's above all rules and regulations. He has history of offering his opinions.

Why dont you become an MP Mr Lineker and then you can say what you want when you want.

I do feel he won't do that as he would never lower himself to just a £80-90k salary...its way beneath his champagne lifestyle..

Not wanting to get into a debate about this so I will just give my opinion and disappear back in the shadows.

When brexit was voted in one of the main the main reasons I was told by people who voted leave was that we could create our own laws for the good of the nation. This is the first one that has caused controversy that has happened so far.

He is right to view his opinion based on the social media policy of the BBC.

I’m not going to get into whether that opinion is right or not. Just think about what we wish for as a nation and individuals

Just wish the government would spend has much resources and effort in trying to catch and punish the smugglers, they are the real big criminals.

But apart from when a lot of migrants die, like in the lorries. They don't seem to bother. But its bash the people fleeing whatever. Easy targets and appeals to their far right base.

As he's freelance and not a member of BBC staff he won't face disciplinary action from them.

I wish more people would excercise their right to speak openly about government. I'd hate to live in a country where we were silenced due to our job or for any other reason.

Imagine demanding someone gets the sack from their job for a personal opinion expressed outside of work.

Lee Anderson has an article on his website championing free speech yet has attacked Lineker over this. Obviously espectfully commenting on the government is the wrong sort of free speech.

Similarly the same people championing Clarkson's right to claim a woman should be stripped naked and paraded through the streets while people through shot at her seem to deplore people challenging our government on its policies

I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if he did get the sack..

I just want him to concentrate on what's he paid very handsomely for...i.e football.

If he worked for any other channel...i.e advertisers funded channels he would be told to keep his gob shut.

Life is so friggin serious these days ...everybody gets offended at the mere drop of a hat. .its tedious...everything is so politicised and viewers/listeners just get sick of having politics forced down their throats and their ears bombarded.

Lighten up people...we are here for a good time....and sadly only a short time.

Gary Lineker is a football pundit, not a newsreader or political analyst for the BBC.

Consequently his political views have no bearing on his job and there is no reason for him to be politically impartial.

He should try to be impartial in his analysis of football though.

He shares his political views on his personal accounts, not on BBC media.

It is only because he is a very high profile "employee" that he is considered to need to be more careful in his comments and will be "spoken to", but there appears to be no justification for him to change his behaviour.

It appears that nobody actually objects to what he said, just that he said it.

I actually don't get offended...maybe its down to the era and family I grew up in...

We just got on with life, cracked on and worked hard... living life not offending anyone or being offended by anyone ....believe me ...it was bliss.."

Exactly, all these people getting offended by a tweet expressing an opinion made by a sports pundit.

This is the world we live in. Anyone who questions the government gets hounded to shit by the media, by random offended people.

"It's amazing how many of the far right are calling for a hard crackdown on freedom of expression and freedom of speech.

Imagine demanding someone gets the sack from their job for a personal opinion expressed outside of work. "

That happens much more regularly than you'd like to believe.

I don't think anyone had been labelled far/right or nazi for voicing an opinion? Certainly not in this debate anyway.

What has happened is that our Home Secretary has quite openly admitted that she intends to break international law, has admitted her plans may be illegal and that she is happy to be in the grey area around legality.

She has also used ridiculous numbers such as hundreds of millions of refugees and calmed that down to millions of refugees. As for labelling people, she's now been investigated for breaching ministerial code fir saying: "but an activist blob of left wing lawyers, civil servants and the Labour Party blocked us.”

For further context much of her bill mirrors a previous bill which achieved nothing. Weve had multiple PMs, multiple Home Secretaries and multiple bills that have achieve nothing (just another tory failing over theclast 12 years) resulting in awful populist slogans and and increasing rhetoric of dehumanising and blaming asylum seekers.

Lineker hasn't called anyone a nazi, he has however, and with considerable justification put a considered respectful tweet making the comparison to 1930s Germany. He is far from alone on voicing that concern. And it is entirely valid.

And this isn't about an opinion, its about an illegal government policy.

But "The BBC should sack Lineker for calling Braverman a nazi" is the sort of clickbait that sells papers

Just my opinion....

Do you think he should be sacked by the BBC?

I think he’s safe, after all the BBC knowingly hide the biggest pedo in British history for 30 years.

Is that the same Pedo Thatcher knighted?

Yes that’s the one, best mates with royal family as well in his time.

I do disagree with people being labelled as far right/ Nazi for voicing they opinions. Especially bugs me when it socialists/leftie supporters. There have been two political parties investigated for racism in the UK the BNP and the Labour Party for it antisemite views.

Strange that ????

Oh for goodness sake don’t call them socialist they hate and despise it ! The usual four will hunt you down

That's so funny ....brilliant...

I'm picturing the Fab Four all looking like Liam Neeson in Taken...

Luckily the country keeps deciding they want nothing to do with the socialists and particular set of skills

Don’t panic the Fab Four will start another anti brexit / anti government thread very very soon

"#SackLinekar is currently trending on Twitter

So is bravermanisanazi , whatever does this mean

It means there's plenty of left and right on twitter.

I'd definitely say calling someone a Nazi is worse than calling for someone to be sacked.

I can't imagine it's the right calling Braverman a Nazi.

I have no idea who is calling her a nazi

Do you think it's OK for that statement to be trending?

I mean you said it yourself 'everything Lineker said is true', you know he compared Braverman to the Nazis whether he used the word or not.

So #sacklinekar is okay but #bravermanisanazi isn't?

I have no problem with either of them. If Lineker is unhappy I'm sure he'll stop tweeting politic opinions. And if Braverman is unhappy she could stop introducing policies and voicing rhetoric that arguably mirrors 1930s Germany"

I suggest you improve your history knowledge after that ridiculous comparison

"As he's freelance and not a member of BBC staff he won't face disciplinary action from them.

I wish more people would excercise their right to speak openly about government. I'd hate to live in a country where we were silenced due to our job or for any other reason. "

Absolutely this. You are correct, he is freelance. He is free to say whatever he wishes.

And I do wish more people would speak up and call things out (whether they are freelance or not).

Far too many people and organisations rely on oppression to silence detractors who wish to highlight their bad behaviour.

Well you certainly implied it when you said:

"I'd definitely say calling someone a Nazi is worse than calling for someone to be sacked"

I didn't imply anything.

Do you disagree with my statement?

Or I can ask another way.

Which is worse:

Calling some a nazi or calling for someone to be sacked?

I'm not sure why you are labouring the point you just denied making?

As I've said I have no issue with either trending on Twitter, as there are very clear reasons why they are and thise narratives have been controlled by Lineker and Braverman.

"

I am not denying anything. What i said is there in black and white.

I'm accusing you of twisting my words. I also notice you refuse to answer my question. That's not a problem, if you want people to make a decision without you're retort.

Well 2 of them required a coalition.

The landslide of the last one saw a victory that should have kept Johnson as PM for years and the tories in power for at least the next 2 General elections but here we are on our third PM and front benchers resigning to avoid the humiliation of the next election.

So it's not quite as simple as the last 4 elections is it?

Isn’t it odd when the woke socialist left wanted Jeremy Clarkson silenced when he attacked that Markle woman but when one of their own champagne socialist lineker speaks up all is well

You noticed that too?! It's as though "hypocrisy" doesn't exist as a word in some peoples' dictionaries

Oh it does exist, only when it suits them though "

I mean the 2 aren't overly comparable are they?

A man suggests a woman should be stripped naked, paraded through the streets while people throw shit at her simply because he hates her.

Another commented on government policy.

No, because no socialist party has stood for election for a long time. The last conference of the BSP was in 1920.

I’m still pleasantly surprised The Beatles are posting in the Fab forums. Especially as two are dead! They really were the FAB FOUR!

Linekar is freelance not an employee. Unless his contract for services has restrictive clauses in it, then he cannot be restricted for saying anything via his personal channels. If he had said it via a BBC channel then that would be different.

He also didn’t actually call anyone a Nazi.

Not really seeing how this is comparable to Jeremy Clarkson.

Again, his position at the BBC is not as a political or news commentator.

He needs to be impartial with respect to football punditry, not politics. He tows that line.

He is not even giving any political opinion during broadcasting.

Why does the opinion of a football commentator affect the impartiality of the BBC stance on politics delivered by a completely separate group of people?

Does a Panorama expose of a Government or Opposition scandal make them biased? Should they not undertake such activities?

I didn’t say that, he will be expected not to damage the brand or create reputation damage as he represents the BBC, keeping out of contentious subjects is the norm and will be part of his contract, hence the we wil remind him comment. In reality he can do and say whatever he wants, but he might not continue to work for the BBC if it is felt he becoming to political.

Ah, this is taking it too far though. He shouldn't have to be silent for fear of offending some nut-jobs who already hate the BBC for being "too woke" anyway.

This whole thing is ridiculous. He commented on government proposals, away from the BBC, not in work, not representing views other than his. It does not make him unsuitable to talk about footie on Saturday nights.

"I’m still pleasantly surprised The Beatles are posting in the Fab forums.

Linekar represents the organisation and as such will be expected to tow the line in terms of opinions, FTE or freelance

Really? He is restricted to expressing an opinions only in line with the BBC?

I didn’t say it did, what I’m saying is he will certainly have a clause in his contract that covers off the expectation on him as he represents the BBC.

"Still going ..lol...

Isn’t it odd when the woke socialist left wanted Jeremy Clarkson silenced when he attacked that Markle woman but when one of their own champagne socialist lineker speaks up all is well "

. ;,, "that Markle woman" happens to be the wife of the 5th in line to the throne , the wife of the Kings son , the mother to the Kings grandchildren

You explicitly said he has to tow the line on his opinions. That's not true, I suspect the BBC may stipulate how he expresseses those opinions but they cant tell him what he can and can't have an opinion on. As I've said more than once he expressed his opinion respectfully, he didn't call anyone a nazi, it was the right-wing press who bandied that term about.

The way the right wing media have jumped in this is telling, as is the reaction of those MPs calling for him to be sacked, its a warning shot to thise with an influential social media presence not to challenge them

Fair enough. I have no clue what's in his contract.
