"Boris has said that Putin threatened him with a missile , Putin says he is a liar, who do we believe
Neither of them if that's allowed."
Either Putin threatened him with a missile or he didn’t , |

"I think when Johnson finished off the story with "or something like that", we have our answer....
Just read the BBC. Boris also said, it was said in jest.
Why is this even a story?"
To distract people. As is 94.3% of what's in the news. |

"Tbh, I think Boris is lying, to try and stay relevant and (which has already been mentioned) to distract from his sleaze accusations "
He's staying in the loop, visiting Ukraine, such a leader that Putin felt the need to threaten him etc..
Deflect from his lying, Russia report, etc etc.. |

As much as Putin is a totally evil tyrant and probably on a par with Joseph Starling i actually believe him when he says Jonson is a liar. I suspect Jonson has a motive to deflect attention away from his dealings with the BBC Director General affair. |

Or it’s there to add interest to his memoirs, soon to be released I understand |

"Why tell this "story" now?", was my thought.
You could have told it at the time. It would have added more impetus to the mad, bad, vlad narrative, if that is what you wanted.
Why now ?
It smacks of either Boris wanting to deflect from his own affairs, or a reframing of the current narrative to support future events.
Since Boris is not the PM, and he's not authorised to speak on behalf of the Government about private conversations, I can only assume the former. It's dog-whistling.
Or something like that.

The story is that Vlad made the 'threat' in a phone call, just after Boris had returned from a heavily publicised visit to Ukraine. Putin definitely doesn't want high profile world leaders being seen to visit and support Ukraine, so I can imagine something along the lines of "You should be careful Boris, if you visit Ukraine again you might get hit by a missile".
Since Boris has just come back from another trip to Ukraine, it's the sort of story that might crop up whilst he's being interviewed.
Or it could just be publicity for his book. |

"At least he went to Ukraine. Our leader probably would have fell down the stairs Exiting Air force 1 and claim it was a missile attack. "
Johnson didn't just go to Ukraine. It's now his regular destination when he wants to dodge a scandal back home. |

It sounds like something Putin would have said, though we can't really verify the context that was implied by Putin compared to the context Boris understood it in. Putin seems to speak in a quite matter-of-fact kind of way. Though his 'facts' aren't always truthful or accurate.
Not standing up for Putin, but what he said could just as easily be interpreted as 'I will send missiles to Kiev but not while you are there'. Know what we mean? |
