The precedent has been set. We can look forward to more of this as this behaviour has been "green-lit" by the USA.
If you lose just say that you haven't and intimidate anyone who disagrees and overrun your Government's democratic institutions.

Good job we have public order laws that can prevent this...

Classified documents self-reported and returned as soon as they were discovered without denials and the need for a search warrant?
How does that equate to storming democratic institutions? |

Storming the Capitol whilst claiming election fraud is the standard way dictators come to power. Step two is eliminate the opposition.
All we need is Trump back in power, siding with his pal Putin and along with Xi and they have world domination. Then God help us!
Sadly there are even people on Fab who would view that as a positive thing. |

How does that equate to storming democratic institutions?" sorta they where found on November 2nd. It's a different kind of "Storming". They should of been made public knowledge prior to the elections. No the election was more important even tho those documents could have changed people's minds in tight races. It wasn't a physical assault. Oh look magically more are found. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the issue. |

Still disclosed immediately at the time that they were found. No claiming they didn't exist. No requirement for a search warrant. Correct?
Not a "different kind of storming" at all.
How does that equate to storming democratic institutions as Trump and Balsonaro supporters did when denying the results of a democratic election?
Misplaced documents does not mean trying to forcibly intimidate and change a government because you're a looser.
Perhaps in you're head it does? |

Now after the election it comes out twice..How convenient. Both damaging the insurrection and trying to effect a election outcome.cant help you can't see that both upends democracy. |

The documents were not withheld, were they?
There was no publicity over the first. I cannot say why. You have a conspiracy in mind. There was lots of publicity over Trump's documents because he lied about them and a search warrant had to be executed. That is true, right?
Perhaps because one set was returned and the other set not?
Again. Not the same as an insurrection. The fact that violent disorder after an election was lost to try to "correct" the result is the same to you as spinning the press?
What happened in Brazil was inspired by the USA. This is the world that your Donald Trump created. Power not being transferred without violence. |

I know that I cannot tell you why to write, but why not start your own thread on Biden's files if it is of interest to you?
What is your view on the physical attacks on democratic institutions in Brazil and not accepting a democratic election and how that relates to what happened with Trump and his supporters in the USA?
That is what the thread is actually about.
Is there a reason that you are unable or unwilling to actually discuss the topic at hand? |

Blu can be a bit of a 'ranter' (is that even a word), in her defence though, most of the questions are boring here and are all the same.
They always come from the same people too, plenty of questions to ask but no answers to provide.
Back to topic though, this happened in Brazil, are we saying Trump is to blame for what happens in Brazil? |

I think you're giving Trump to much credit for an idea that is in no way original. Wasn't it Joseph Goebbels who said “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it. Doesn't that sound like a present day fascist we all know. |

Trump has legitimised this pattern of behaviour.
Lie, deny, incite violence and take no responsibility.
What happened in the USA was very well publicised. A country that is held up (or has held itself up) as a model for democracy. If it's OK there then it's OK anywhere, right?

Blu can be a bit of a 'ranter' (is that even a word), in her defence though, most of the questions are boring here and are all the same.
They always come from the same people too, plenty of questions to ask but no answers to provide.
Back to topic though, this happened in Brazil, are we saying Trump is to blame for what happens in Brazil?
Trump has legitimised this pattern of behaviour.
Lie, deny, incite violence and take no responsibility.
What happened in the USA was very well publicised. A country that is held up (or has held itself up) as a model for democracy. If it's OK there then it's OK anywhere, right?
You see no link at all?
Coups and coup attempts have happened since the dawn of time but let's all blame Trump because it suits our agendas
They might have been inspired by Trump, but I haven't seen any evidence that this one has anything to do with him. Just had some parallels. Far right supports storming the buildings of a populist narcissist ex president.
That's exactly my point.
Inspired and legitimised by Trump. Nothing about him "causing" what happened in Brazil.
And they may not have been inspired by Trump.
This just screams of another sensationalist headline, the very thing you scoff at our papers for Truth lol "
So does that mean you do actually have an opinion on the topic?
There is no relationship between Donald Trump encouraging his supporters to attack democratic institutions after losing and election and Bolsonaro's supporters doing the same thing for the same reason?
OK. |

I'll bend a little and I do not expect others to "bend". I do enjoy someone being a individual and not follow the current headlines. A biased point of view and just a told agenda. Hate me love me don't give give a fuck.i proved my life for others. Step up and do the same. Yup I rant it's a common theme when you can't have a rebuttal. Been there done the stupid have the scars and the experience.

Yup rant. back on topic .. it's not compared. It's a generalization to some. It's been going on forever. History repeats. Yet some fail to understand for their own personal goals. |

There is no relationship between Donald Trump encouraging his supporters to attack democratic institutions after losing and election and Bolsonaro's supporters doing the same thing for the same reason?
OK. but technically they are not democratic institutions now are they ?
Oh, right. "Technically" the buildings which hold the places in which the work of democratic institutions take place are not democratic institutions.
That's alright then.
Excellent argument. well the US and Brazil are republics now are they ? You know the people have say according to their representative and the constitutional rights ? Not everyone agrees to the majority now do they ? we have states that have totally different values than others. We not all on the same page. Like you think ei should be. maybe I am wrong.. but those people that risked everything. For their voices to be heard. It spoke volumes. Otherwise we wouldn't be having this argument. According to your views. ranting as usual.. it's ok.. my question is how far you going to go to prove your point. Good or bad. Torry / labor. Republican/ democrat. Something eventually breaks. Welcome to the shitshow. You will break I see the cracks.
What is it that you hope for?
Democracy to fail and countries to be thrown into chaos and violence? You see the disagreements to the point it's hostile. What is your breaking point to transition to your values. No health care total government control over your life? Sometimes governments need a wake-up call to restore balance. Otherwise its a abject failure. Right or wrong in the public perception. Both ideas effects change. Did my ancestors not fight against your crown ? It effected change did it not ? Our constitution is based of that change... I can cite all day how different violence twords governments effected the general population opinions. Not just a global understanding. Yet you want to deny that opinion to your standardization. I do not." I swore a oath to the constitution of the US. It's my binding faith. No change no amendments it's what has created it us. It's my gospel my Bible. I wouldn't be here having choices without it. |

The only vaguely on-topic point I can see is that you think that violence when an election is lost is acceptable, even desirable, to show displeasure.
Also that the US Constitution should never ever be changed, even though it's been amended 27 times before.
The rest is like a child demanding a fight in the playground for no reason that can be ascertained. |

Just like similar protests. Plenty of protests involved violence.... You need a supermajority to amend. 10 of those amendments was the bill of rights you speak of. Political polarization stops amendments. No matter what party is in charge. The document still is our creation born out of the ashes of a oppressive government. Nothing really changed the public opinion since Jan 6. |

If this is true, it's a testament to the power and control of the media. Terrifying.
I never understood why you guys can't amend the amendments? Are they fixed now, or what's the problem? They seem to be massively holding the country back in some respects. |

If protest is violent, then something has gone wrong. Like lying to people about a legitimate democratic election being "st0len" just because you lost. That was lies that stoked anger and violence.
The irony being that the voting process in the US appears to be very much slanted against the side that eventually won.
Your view of "public opinion" is limited by those you know and the information that you choose to look for and accept.
Republican voters opinions are substantially different to those of Democrats and independent voters.
This is the overall Quinnipac survey:
HOW MUCH RESPONSIBILITY DOES DONALD TRUMP BEAR FOR JANUARY 6?
A lot 45% Some 19% Not much 13% None 21%
I also understand that you just believe what you choose to believe and no external information is acceptable if it contradicts your position, but others may be interested. |

I just looked it up, because it interested me:
“I, ____________________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
Is someone taking up violence against the democratically elected Government of your country and physically attacking it's institutions a domestic enemy?
Is lying about how you lost an election a polarising act?
Does the Republican party do any more to reduce this than the Democrats?
Would you like your country to split over party lines so that you can live in your own bubbles?
Perhaps just into individual states as you claim to be so completely different? |

"It's all strangely familiar, isn't it? yes kind of like classified documents being found.
Classified documents self-reported and returned as soon as they were discovered without denials and the need for a search warrant?
How does that equate to storming democratic institutions?"
There was at least a 2 month delay according to the BBC...

Sometimes yes I want my state to live in a bubble and not be federally mandated. Because other states and parties disagree. We have state constitutions for a reason. |

A delay in making it public, not in reporting it.
That is quite different. As well as not denying that they had them when asked because nobody had to ask.
That is fundamentally different.
What they were may be pertinent, but we don't know that yet. A Special Consul has been appointed so we may find out in due course. |

They assumed democracy was under attack because they were lied to. They were misled by your leaders. Both Trump and the Republican party who continues to repeat the same lie.
The same lie used by a pretext in other countries.
I had imagined that you would expect your leaders to take responsibility for their actions as you might expect yourself to, bit you appear happy to give them a bye.
You have state constitutions so that you can change your voting laws to exclude people you don't like and overrule your semi-independent appointed judiciary, apparently.
I am being facetious, but you might see my point if you were willing to. |

"A delay in making it public, not in reporting it."
So Biden delayed it announcing it publicly for two months and the media then did, what the media will always do, and reported on it straight away?
Fail to see your logic here. He knew, and chose to delay for two months, or at least his handlers chose to delay.
Not sure what motives are for the defence of a politician for a party in a country that isn't even the UK. |

So there was no lying to the Department of Justice as Trump did, requiring a search warrant, this making it public. The information and documents were volunteered.
Agreed?
I'm not sure why you think anyone would actively shout about making a mistake. When have you ever seen that happen?
I am simply indicating that there is no equivalency. I'm not defending Boden. |

If I found I still had some old classified letters from, say, GCHQ, why should I be obligated to call Fox News straight away and announce that when I found them? Surely all you have to do is return the docs to their rightful owner? There is no obligation to make it public.
The difference between Trump and Biden is the former denied he had them, stored them in an unlocked room open to his staff and visitors, refused to hand them over when instructed to by the Court, claimed executive privilege, claimed he had declassified every one when he was the 45th President and, when he eventually handed some over, it was only a few which led to the FBI having to execute a search warrant to try and obtain the rest. In addition Trump did not tell the media he had them.
When Biden's lawyers found a few in amongst personal papers that had been in locked storage for over 6 years he told the National Archive and instituted a search to see if he had any more.
