In the twentieth century my top 5 would be.
Churchill. Literally saved the nation and eventually Europe from Nazi tyranny. No contest.
Attlee. Massive achievements in a short space under awful circumstances.
Lloyd George. A corrupt shagger but a very progressive social reformer.
Wilson. Very underrated, many important laws passed in his time.
Thatcher. Still divisive but transformed a broken economy and ended facism in Argentina.

I’d support Attlee as the best for what he both achieved and his attitude that its everyone’s country not just the rich and the push to decolonisation.
Attlee and Bevin was an impressive team. |

It was a hugely talented Government all round, although a lot were exhausted or very ill after a few years. |

In the 20th century:
1. Sir Anthony Charles Lynton Blair
2. Baroness Thatcher
3. Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill
And all three for what they did for the UK "behind the scenes", and not for what the media had to say about them... |

Baroness Thatcher don't no how she made the Best list.
Privateitsed water now a mess dumping surge.
Privateitsed BT so profits now go to investors
Privateitsed British Gas energy is now expensive.
Social housing right to buy shortage of social housing.
And lots more.
As for the Falkland War a PM dose what the forces say. |

Beat me to it. Thatcher transformed the economy alright, but only by selling the family silver at a bargain basement price. |

I totally agree that she sold the family silver.
Thatcher sold 49,000 servicemen's houses at an average of £29k to a Japanese bank, then rented them back! Some were 5 bed houses in Chelsea worth millions, the vast majority were worth much more than £29k. Having sold at well below the market rate she used the money to reduce tax for her buddies to buy re-election.
She also closed and privitised loads of Government departments because of political dogma whilst ignoring the fact not that there were no private companies capable of performing the same service. It created a massive problem for MOD and other specialist organisations. |

In my lifetime the PM that provided me a positive impact was Blair.
He came at a time the country needed change and he delivered that.
I know he has Iraq hanging around his neck and we the people, love to highlight anyones failings over their achievements but I don't forget the positives he delivered
For that reason he would be the best PM |

Anyone who is PM for a long time will have big positives and negatives. Unfortunately people find it hard to get past their tribal loyalties and see the good as well as bad achievements of their opponents, as with some of the comments about Margaret Thatcher. |

Absolutely. Tony Blair is without doubt the best PM of my lifetime.
Yes there's plenty to hate about him but the really did 'Make Britain Great Again' |

Blair was at least competent which is more than can be said for the assorted duffers who we have had recently. Churchill.. many faults but was the man in the right place at the right time.
Atlee.. The architect of the present socialised system we rely on
Wilson ..led the UK at a time of great upheaval. Oh and told the USA we wouldn't support them in Vietnam

The caveat I always tell people with Thatcher and the economy under her leadership is, without the Tax revenues from peak North Sea oil, she wouldn’t have been able to cut taxes as much as she did. Where as Norway have built up a sovereign fund with their oil revenues, we basically wasted it by cutting direct taxes. |
