Start of the week the EU was berating those countries that were requiring, or considering requiring, negative covid tests but now, they are recommending them to member states. Dramatic U-turn or sensible revision of policy?

The USA right now is doing what it can to cripple the Chinese economy. It will be US lobby groups pushing for this behind the scenes, and honestly can't blame them.

I would say it's both a U turn but also a sensible revision. If it were the UK what would it be described as?

The EU were "berating" countries?

Really. Do please provide the quote.

If the advice has changed or the risk has increased then what is wrong with a "U-turn"?

BBC 4 days ago. I don't have a photographic memory. As for what is wrong with a u turn, nothing...unless it's carried out by the govt apparently

This seems to be what you are referring to:

https://www.france24.com/en/europe/20221229-eu-says-mandatory-covid-screening-unjustified-for-travellers-from-china

They seem to have said that restrictions were unjustified for the EU due to high levels of vaccination. They didn't criticise anyone else.

How do you define "berating"?

Then they assessed the data (or lack thereof from China) and changed their mind. That's what those science types do you know.

Berating was the word used in the article I read as I recall. Science types may well assess data but when they all agree on something you can start chirping about it

Sounds like a biased article looking at what was actually done.

No idea what the attempt at patronisation was at the end though. Could you explain more clearly what you meant?

It seems that the nasty EU "berated" China too by offering them more effective vaccines for free.
