Not a house full of mould and damp is fit for any human being, let alone used to downgrade the person who should be illegible to use them due to their status or race.
Bear in mind that poor boy dying in Rochdale was a recent immigration arrival.
Good enough for him, was it? |

Because they are already full.
There is no reason that those properties shouldn't be properly maintained for whoever is living in them.
That's our fault as a society and a Government, isn't it? |

There's so many empty shops on every high street now. I can't see why these can be either let to provide emergency accommodation or compulsory bought to improve the affordable housing claim that all parties reckon they will provide. They have electric and running water but are going to waste with landlords hoping for a high street renaissance or housing firms to buy them for flats etc. |

Good enough for him, was it?" according to Reece mog and the rest of his Tory landlord friends who voted down & talked out legislation meant to force landlords to make properties fit and safe for habitation not a slum |

I'm a little lost. The houses your friends weren't happy with, have they been classed as not suitable for asylum seekers ? I thought that was where your first post was heading.
There should be minimum levels for rented houses. Private or public stock. That would be part of my rental reforms. |

Decisions being made by the landlords based on tenant type, not the government. |

So this has absolutely nothing to do with immigration or asylum.
It's to do with legally acceptable living standards.
Nobody is disagreeing with you that these should exist and be enforced.
I think that the standards exist but there is no resource to enforce and easier for stretched councils to deny the issue and see who is so desperate that they will accept the substandard provision. |

Lots of old office blocks have been converted into housing and particularly temporary housing however quite a few of them have been considered not fit for purpose. |

I will just add as somebody who currently lives in social housing some landlords are incredible and we cannot fault ours but unfortunately I know that is not the case everywhere. |

"The BBC ran a report from Sheffield today, about sub-standard housing.
You do wonder at times, exactly what these councils do and who is in charge.
A sobering watch."
They were forced to sell their social housing stock many years ago and not allowed to use the money to build more.
The local councils centrally controlled funding has been cut year after year so you blame your council not the government for cutbacks.
It’s a deceitful hiding of the truth from council tax payers .
The government sing the praises of Tory councils saying they keep council tax down while labour councils over charge and squander money.
The actual facts reported in parliament show the average labour council charges £300 per year less than a Tory council. Who knew??
Basically it’s just more lies.
I do believe council all waste money and need accountability but their underfunding is being exposed especially in regard to social care.
