When the conservatives nick labours ideas

In an effort to make the tories more appealing to voters, a number of policies advocated by labour seem to be ending up as policies being used by the tories.

It is claimed that when a government is on their way out of power in the UK, they start to imitate their opponents to prove they can change, but inevitably it backfires because people are sick of them already.

So does it look like it is trully the end of the conservatives then?

I suppose it makes a bit of a change from Starmer suggesting the government does things it's already doing

The Conservatives have been implementing Labour policies since 2010. They have ceased to be right of centre for some time.

So you would say that the conservatives are Essentially the Labour Party now?

That is why you vote for them?

I don't see anything stopping the Tories being kicked out at the next GE. I would have thought that if a good idea comes up it should be looked at and if suitable, implemented regardless of who thought of it. I am more annoyed if a decent idea is put forward by an opposition party and it's not implemented

If it's a good, I don't mind who implements it. If the Tories do something for British people, I'm all for it.

God you must be asleep at the wheel - the Tories have been pushed to become ever more right wing by the ERG and their fear of losing seats to UKIP. It’ll be interesting to see if Farage breaks the Tory party with his Reform party although god knows what will become of the UK if he does start to influence policy further!

Highest tax burden since Attlee was PM.

Fervent adoption of net zero madness forced down business and the publics throat which will cost trillions and achieve nothing.

Ridiculous Chinese lockdown approach to covid adopted causing far more deaths in long term.

Virtually unrestricted immigration into the UK

I don't think I've been asleep at the wheel , you can't put a fag paper between Labour and Tory policies on virtually anything certainly nothing important. They are an omniparty of utterly shite.

I see that the parties are pretty similar, but because Labour have moved to the centre, or centre right.

The Tories are still way over on the right of politics. Not sure how they could get much further to be honest. Restrictions on the freedom to protest, blaming everything on immigrants, brexit, disaster capitalism, utter failure to take action on climate change, etc.

The Tories are still way over on the right of politics. Yeah right.

Failure to take action on climate change? The Tories have exactly the same mad ideas as Labour. Namely to rely on unreliable renewables and to ban fossil fuels, gas boilers and petrol and diesel cars! And unlike other saner countries put it into law!! Exact same policy as Labour.

While they have talked tough about immigration they have done nothing about it!

Brexit was possibly a right wing idea, and let's on forget the majority of Tory Mps voted against it and many on the left voted for it. It has not been fully implemented and been watered down .

Since Tony Blair was PM both parties have drifted dramatically to the Left , so much so that there is barely any difference between them. The tax and spending plans from both are virtually identical.

I wouldn't vote for any of the main parties and haven't for years. They are essentially colluding together against the general UK population's interests. They are making the country poorer and ruining the lives of the majority.

Fully respect your point of view while whole heartedly disagreeing.

As far as I am aware since Cameron, it's widely accepted that the Tories have pulled further to the right.

I accept that there's not much difference between the two main parties. For me, the fault is with Labour, who are failing to offer an alternative aside from being a less shit version of what we already have.

"Widely accepted by whom ? "

Political commentators from across the spectrum. The British public at large. You're the first person I've seen suggesting that the Tory's have swung to the left. All the discussion seems to be about Boris, and then Truss moving out "moderate Conservatives" and bringing in more further right MPs into government, pushing more right wing policy etc.

How did that work out for Truss? The powers that be ensured that she was history as soon as she did anything vaguely "Conservative" And in rode in Sunak and Hunt the socialist , globalist knights to the rescue.

They ousted Truss for incompetence. Not because she continued Boris's lurch to the right.

Not sure it's accurate to suggest Sunak or Hunt are socialists. What makes you say that?

I wouldn't label Sunak or Hunt as socialist but definitely centrist.

I guess you are a free marketer if you think that this Tory government is left wing and socialist? To be honest I find that idea a bit bizarre as a concept

Do you watch GBNews?

It works both ways. Starmer has recently mentioned moving parts of government to the north just like Boris and Cummings have also said in the past too. They all drink at the same bars at the end of the day so what do you expect?

Loads of people I know think we had an extremely socialist Chancellor! Of course the Tories have swung left. On climate, gay marriage, high tax, high spend, universities vigorously ‘decolonising’ their curriculums, young people routinely offering their ‘pronouns’ to forestall any confusion about their gender, uncontrolled immigration, human rights etc etc

The left and the minority groups they support just shout the loudest and bully those who don't agree with them. It's bad enough now and will get far worse if Labour end up running the country again. They'll reduce vote age to 16 because as the old saying goes 'if you’re not a socialist when you’re young, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative when you’re older, you have no brain'

This is an excellent example. The swing to the right has been so hard that issues such as not destroying the planet, and not being homophobic are now considered minority groups shouting and bullying.
