Seems government don't trust Big Brother Xi in Beijing.
UK government ban for Chinese Hikvision CCTV cameras as a risk to National Security, for fear of being used for spying.
The company's CCTV cameras are used by up to 60% of UK public bodies including schools and government departments.
Supplying up to 60% of UK public bodies with CCTV cameras according to a report by Big Brother Watch, which found that the cameras from Hikvision and Dahua, another partly Chinese government-owned manufacturer, were used by 73% of local authorities, 35% of police forces and 63% of schools in the UK. |

Businesses with large sites use them too, like factories and warehouses.
Goes to show what the government advisors know. A good set of firewall policies should stop any appliance communicating to the imternet that doesn't need to. |

If you've ever been to the IFSEC Trade Show at the NEC in Birmingham which is a massive global Security event.
Hikvision are one of the biggest sponsors of that event, usually on all the branding with one of the largest stands at the event as soon you you walk through the door.
It's no wonder they've wormed their way in to the heart of our infrastructure.
Hardwired, non Network or non WiFi (dumb) cameras are OK as they're offline, though there are still issues with the DVR if that's connected.
I need 6x HD cameras so no doubt they are cheap, security or privacy isn't an issue as I have no issues taking my balls out and showing them to anyone that asks, especially in Car Parks so will be on the hunt for some cheap ones that can no longer be installed elsewhere..
Then again, I now wonder who in China has seen my naughty outdoor antics while out dogging!!

Yes, one brand mentioned - but it'll no doubt be rolled out further as they'll likely use the same CCD and Chipset, especially the Comms Module. Government have suggested "Chinese", not Hikvision from what i heard.
I've had designed and manufactured products based on GSM/3G/4G modules by SIMCOM. what's to say these are not capable of diverting network traffic elsewhere on Internet Data?
SIMCOM are Government part owned, most modules are used in IOT products for remote access including alarm monitoring, traffic control and more.
Your given the module, a development kit and a 500 page datasheet. Who knows what else they were capable of that's not documented.
