And are those able to leave this sinking ship getting out while Captain sumak takes one last salute from the bridge of SS United Kingdom?

The news is so abundant with rot in this country

Did it go down in the 70's, 80's or early 90's?

"Did it go down in the 70's, 80's or early 90's?"

Fortunately we didn't have brexit followed by a pandemic and a war in the 70s, 80s or 90s and manufacturing was still a thing.

The UK is the system of the establishment. We will never win as long as we have Lords, Commons and Kings. Off with the lot.

There no rush , you may as well stay until at least mid feb now because we’re 8 months into a tax year. But yes there will be a big exodus of HR tax payers in feb and March

All of Europe is in comparitive decline compared to other younger and more dynamic economies. But it's still a very good place to live if you are reasonably ok financially, and Britain will become increasingly attractive as global warming drives people North.

We had a global oil price crisis followed by huge inflation and mass unemployment. British manufacturing is generally much more competitive now than in the 70s and 80s.

I think the Tories gave become lazy and complacent over the last 12 years. Their record doesn't bear scrutiny

They know they're safe and people will keep voting for them, so they don't have to bother pretending to care about the UK or British people anymore.

No, they're not! I don't believe you really believe that. If the Tories get 150-200 seats at next election I'll be amazed

I do believe it. There's been so many moments over the past 12 years when everyone gets excited that something might change at the next election. It never does.

People were saying that prior to Blair getting in.

I honestly don't remember.

I just don't see what the difference is between the current self serving nature of the government is different to previous Tory governments over the last 12 years. They seem approximately as bad to me.

Plus the next GE is two years away, a lot can happen then. Plus don't understand estimate the power of the extremely well funded Tory PR machine.

But it will change. As tick follows tock. The only other thing as certain is the economy will boom and bust with just as much regularity.

Politics....as good today as it's always been.

The ships looking very sea worthy. I suspect the comparison is with Europe, don't forget they had big build back packages post WW2, leading to growth and prosperity and then furthered the growth on Russian energy. Now its all gone they are in a far worse situation than the UK.

As an engineering buyer, I could not understand how the likes of Germany could be cheaper than than the UK when wages and cost of living was higher there, but now we know why.

Really, 1st in 2021. OECD predicts last place for 2022 according to government website. Predicts, is not actual so we wait and see.

I work for a UK based company owned by Germans, they see it more rosy here than in Germany.

Q3 2022 figures are out. You can browse at your leisure. Suffice to see the anecdotal evidence of some Germans who own a company, is not reflecting reality.

I read an article on the BBC today about high inflation, lack of skilled workers, immigration problems, local population unhappy with the amount of illegal immigrants and wanting companies to employ locals especially as unemployment is so high despite large amounts of vacancies. You could be forgiven thinking it was describing the UK but in fact it was a report on Germany

Now that is funny

We don’t have manufacturing anymore

We do have many privatised utilities owned by foreign companies

Brexit eh

Santa's sleigh went past here an hour ago with nobody in it (but all lit up).

I'm taking that as a serious omen for the country.

If Santa has led the exodus, what hope is there for us_elves?
