Is it all over for brexit?
Piers Morgan tweets "It’s time to admit that Brexit has been a disaster, exacerbated by pandemic/war, and have another referendum which as this poll indicates, would surely result in a substantial majority now voting for us to return to the EU."

Piers Morgan is an arsehole, Brexit has been a disaster though, but we won’t be rejoining |

That about sums it up.
I'd add that rejoining wouldn't undo much of the damage done. |

Brexit has (largely) been a disaster. I would day it's been exacerbated by our elected representatives.
But a big part of brexit was about automomy (rebranded as sovereignty).
We've got the brexit we deserve imo.
And Id be reluctant to keep having referendums as the biggest issue with Brexit is it's been a huge distraction from real issues. Brexit didn't exacerbate COVID etc. COVID effects were exacerbated by having poor quality MPs who were only there because of where they stood on one issue. But we put them there. |

We didn’t get the Brexit anyone deserved, least of all those who voted remain.
I know it has been said to death, but everyone who voted remain wanted to maintain the status quo but between all those who voted leave there were multiple permutations of what that looked like.
What should have happened was a two stage referendum:
1) Leave the EU = YES / NO
2) If YES then a referendum on several options for our future relationship with the EU
Seems like EEA style is coming back into favour. Personally I agree it is the 2nd best option after actually remaining but not sure it really satisfies brexiters:
1) Freedom of movement/Schengen a requirement
2) “Membership” fee to pay but NO SAY over rules/regulations/law
Talk about shoot ourselves in the foot! |

Oh! Mea culpa! I incorrectly presumed that Piers Morgan was going to be Britain's first export following greenfield negotiations regarding a new trade deal.
Perhaps I should say "tirade deal" because he is often quite argumentative. |
