The BBC is being run down by this government and has lost its teeth in the face of the threat of losing its licence.

Has it had its day or should we be defending its future?

The BBC still has a lot to offer, the licensing fee needs changing though

Why does it need changing? How would you fund it?

Then it may have to produce programming to please the masses. Most of the programming on the likes of Netflix is poor quality.

The BBC should produce impartial, high quality programs made in the UK. It currently doesn't do any of those consistently as it is run by lefties and is concerned about "ratings".

The problem the BBC has right now imho is weak leadership that is trying too hard to be impartial for fear of losing its licence. Also I think you might like to take a look at the BBC’s director general and see if he is a “woke” lefty or not. It’s too easy for all of you anti woke brigade to point at liberal lefties not telling your story rather than questioning whether your own beliefs are realistic

Why do you think it is fortunate that "they are dying out"?

Nobody should be discriminated against, or gain advantage from, a characteristic such as race, gender or sexuality.

There are too many people with an agenda saying they are under represented in order to gain an advantage.

People should make their way based on ability alone.

Spot on.

The BBC is woefully inept at scrutinising the government though, don't ask them any challenging questions and generally let them off the hook.

The Beeb is often labelled "lefty" because they do things like, discussing the real life impact of brexit, or the discuss climate science. Even though they nearly always seem to give air time to unicorn believers, and climate change deniers (IE verified bollocks).

Some of the programming is top notch, like to he nature documentaries for example. If they could sort out journalism to ask proper questions, like the local radio presenters did when Truss went on their shows. It would be a big improvement.

Central

It's a remarkable organisation and delivers exceptional services to the country, despite what the government has been doing, to harm it - and the citizens, indirectly.

With such standing today, I see no reason to vary things, apart from to facilitate full independence from government interference.

I'd like to see means-tested licence fees, such that the less well off can pay less.

I hope it stays as it is. I know they get stick but on the whole I think they make really good programs. I do however have sympathy for those that want it to go subscription based. I like the BBC but that's a personal choice. I'm not sure it's correct that those that don't like it should have to fund it

15 years licence free here. The only reason I can see to watch live TV is for sport, something I'm not bothered about. I use a Nvidia Shield as a Plex server with over 2000 movies and 250 TV series installed via torrent websites.

The licence fee should be scrapped.

Those who want to watch the BBC can carry on funding it. If it's as good and popular as they say, it will have a great future.

Personally I never watch it and haven't watched it in years.

Nobody forces anyone to watch Sky or Netflix so why the BBC.

Good luck to it as a self funding venture.

Pay for a streaming service? That's a novel idea. No I don't. I have paid for Real-Debrid in the past when I was using Kodi but since I moved to my own Plex based server the only expense is the Internet and a VPN, And of course the hardware, mainly in the form of harddrives.

Remember the days when people used to fight, sometimes to the death, for their family or friends? Now people argue over faceless media corporations. Fudge the BBC, let them compete with others without being propped up by all people in the UK, including some of the poorest.

I'm confused. Are you saying we should all be fighting to the death? Or are you saying we should give fudge to the BBC?
