What's the worrying bit? Is there a suggestion that the Moderna vaccine doesn't really work and he's managed to fool everybody so he can make a huge profit?

Not read anything but the key question will be around the timing/date of any investment and how that correlates to UK Govt policy making to grant vaccine license(s) to Moderna. Then read that against any uplift in share price as a result of those licenses.

Do you not think that businessmen spread investments across all markets and companies?

If you have a pension maybe take a look at where they invest money and you will find traces all over the place as money is invested and re invested over and over.

Nothing to see really

Yes but not if they have inside information or the ability to influence Govt policy making that will enhance the value of their investment.

See my post above.

What does that mean? I see reference to the green arrow a lot but don’t quite get it?

On a thread by clicking the green arrow next to a poster's name, you can navigate to their previous posts.

Someone here doesn't seem to be a fan of Rishi (based off their other threads) and also may not be very familiar about how financial markets work.

I didn’t know that! Thanks

I am no fan of Sunak but have a bit of understanding around financial markets. I also know how Govt works and what conflict of interest is. Also know that insider trading/dealing or market manipulation via government policy for personal gain is illegal.

Not all that North of North London

Unless you are imolyingbhe benefited from insider trading I'm not sure the point that you are making?

I mean given the amount of contracts awarded through pure cronyism and the farce that was track and trace where the government wastes billions of tax payer money I'm not sure I can get angry about a businessman having shares in a company

A scenario to illustrate the point (all made up numbers and dates etc):

1. Sunak bought 10,000 shares in Moderna in 2019. All fine.

2. At the height of the Pandemic the UK Government starts to discuss their approach to covid vaccines. They agree that they will licence certain companies/vaccines at a given date in the future. This includes Moderna (at this point nobody outside of that room knows Moderna will get a licence).

3. Sunak immediately buys another 50,000 shares in Moderna.

4. Days/Weeks/Months later the UK Govt announces they will be licensing the Moderna vaccine and buying x million doses...the Moderna share price makes massive gains.

Sunak has profited from restricted/confidential access to information as a senior govt official.

Hence my earlier post re timing of everything being key. If Sunak increased his shareholding before any discussion were being had about vaccine licenses and approvals, then that is just an investor speculating.

I don't know why people are surprised at a wealthy person making more money from information available to them.

Good point.

I am concerned more about the billions also still to be recouped for the furlough fraud. Certain employers and persons clearly took the biscuit.

It was an emergency deployment of funds to help businesses and workers during lockdown. Having proper water tight controls is something I find baffling, even appreciating it was a rushed measure to implement to keep people in jobs and and/or prevent business going bust rapidly.

This one sticks with Rishi, in terms of oversight, it was on his watch although he probably was not involved in the mechanism funds actually got paid.

Which is why it should be loudly and repeatedly said everywhere to maintain (well actually create) a spotlight on it.

Why?

Wished I'd have invested. Obviously a sound financial decision. He'd make a good Chancellor.

Does everything have to have an ulterior motive to it?

Only a sound financial decision if the timing lines up. If not, it was illegal insider trading.

I'm actually surprised it hasn't been looked into, then again I remember one of the medical advisors having shares in astra, just by chance... and rushed through

Again though, having shares in a pharma company before the pandemic and before the setting of govt policy is fine. Increasing your shareholding after you have been given access (or been part if discussions) to govt policy that will increase the value of those shares is illegal.

So we have black out periods where we are not allowed to trade, but I I don’t think government ministers have the equivalent controls

It’s nothing new and it’s widespread. Did a little and you will find the majority of Tory MPs have businesses or investments that benefit from policy , inside info or access to planned projects that’s others would not know about.

Jeremy hunt and others made their millions this way , Google Hunts Saale of Hotcourses and look into it’s revenue streams in the years preceding the sale, mostly contracts for the government

Nothing gets done about it but it is against ministerial code.
