Boris has changed..

Who knows until it happens? I always thought it was refreshing that Tony Blair's admirable forgiveness qualities enabled Peter Mandelson to return a number of times after catastrophic sleaze scandal after another. |

Poor wittle Bowis has weally weally changed honest!
Except while Parliament was in session and MPs are still supposed to be working for their constituents, the self-serving corrupt asshole was on yet another holiday (wonder who paid for this one!) only to rush back to the UK on the chance he could get back his golden meal ticket. |

"Will Boris welcome Cummings back ?"
Who can say? If Keir Starmer wins in '25, Mandelson has already said he'd like to serve in his cabinet.
He quit for a second time in 2001 after being accused of helping one of the Hinduja brothers get a British passport in return for a £1m donation to the Millennium Dome. Brown brought him back for Cabinet job 3, some years later. So if Labour can do this why not Boris? |

We all know both sides bring back people who leave under a cloud.
Unusual to do it before there has been time for the cloud to dissapear. |

It's not 3 months. I think he showed genuine contrition and a willingness to change up to a year ago when the left wing media first began whipping up hysteria about cake and drinks and managed to spook Tory MPs to drop him 3 months ago. Many now realise they dumped a winner, the man with the mandate and who Labour are genuinely terrified of, and want him back, reformed and refreshed |

PMSL, let’s be honest, he isn’t coming back, he is struggling to get 100 MPs to back him, and if he returns the Tory party will implode, only an imbecile would want him as PM |

Left wing media..?
The picture of Her Majesty the late Queen was on all the papers, the Times, Telegraph and Mail etc all rightly ripped into him for his putting two fingers up to all and sundry who followed the rules whilst he oversaw and participated in a culture of breaking the law at the time..
Trouble with trying to rewrite history when it's still recent is your going to be caught out..
For the record it was wrong for Mandelson to come back at that time..
Boris is still under investigation for lying to Parliament.. |

Who is saying that was ok? Whataboutism and tribalism really are pitiful!"
Whataboutism is essential to remind those who believe Labour will lead us to the pure, sunlit uplands!
Whataboutism is the bedrock of fair, consistent and equal treatment in society, if you stop to think about it. If your neighbours suddenly received a 100% no strings rebate on their Council tax, 'what about' would be the amongst the first words out of your mouth down at the Town Hall. Quite rightly.
Whataboutism is always moral and appropriate yet seems to be used by the Left as a put down these days. I always see it as a sign the Left are inconveniently rankled and wished inside I hadn't reminded them of something that punctures their Tory hate balloon |

Ah yes. Genuine contrition. And them along came Pincher and he showed he learned his lesson by being open and honest from tej outset.
Now, I suspect you may not be a profile who truely believes this.
However there are 50 MPs who are publically taking this line. They are giving no space for people to play the WUM space.

We know the former prime minister won the support of 211 MPs in the no confidence vote this summer, so 50 odd is likely to be an underestimate |

The truth is, everyone lies. While we all like to think we’re totally honest, statistically speaking we are liars. Researchers estimate the average person lies a minimum of once to twice per day. If you don’t believe me, ask yourself:
Do you ever give people compliments that aren’t genuine? Have you told someone you were doing fine when, in reality, you were tired and having a bad week?
Do you ever tell people you are busy to avoid having to speak to them or do something with them?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, then you’ve lied.
The important thing is did he knowingly lie to Parliament?
The idea that Labour politicians never lie is just totally absurd.

Bs, he was fined for breaking the law..
Whilst others also were and some no doubt weren't..
Fact remains he was the person at the top, who should have known the actual rules his government imposed upon the Nation.. |

Will go with the principle of that yes, but how many times has he been sacked for lying before he became PM..?
The lesson if any in the future should be that in the highest offices we have as a country there has to be a bar set and that's for all sides..
In the private and public sector there is acceptable standards of conduct at all levels yet we seem ok with ignoring them for some populist politicians..
It's not proper..

"Will Boris welcome Cummings back ?
Who can say? If Keir Starmer wins in '25, Mandelson has already said he'd like to serve in his cabinet.
He quit for a second time in 2001 after being accused of helping one of the Hinduja brothers get a British passport in return for a £1m donation to the Millennium Dome. Brown brought him back for Cabinet job 3, some years later. So if Labour can do this why not Boris?
Who is saying that was ok? Whataboutism and tribalism really are pitiful!
I always see it as a sign the Left are inconveniently rankled and wished inside I hadn't reminded them of something that punctures their Tory hate balloon "
Lolz really! As a centrist (and declared as such many times on here) I have no particular affinity to any political party. I am always calling out the tribalism and footballisation of politics. I don’t care what colour tie a politician wears, if they act shit they should be called for it.
Whataboutism is regularly used as a justification or normalisation of bad behaviour. There is no justification. Johnson was truly awful. A joke of a man. A complete clown. I hope he rots in hell! |

Thoughts?
Ask Michael Howard and Max Hastings.. "
Oh yes Michael Howard being asked the same question 12 times on Newsnight!
Anyway, on sacking Boris, Lord Howard now says "in retrospect I don't think I should have done."
He went on: "It was to do with his private life and I don't think I should have done it." |

I'm intrigued how much he can change in, what, three months.
Many now realise they dumped a winner, the man with the mandate and who Labour are genuinely terrified of, and want him back, reformed and refreshed
He did not 'put two fingers up to all and sundry who followed the rules'
He was simply with people he'd been in meetings with all day anyway, like millions of people.
And lied about it, hence the inquiry,
The Inquiry has not started yet, so we don't know if he knowingly lied
Let’s wait and see then, he tells lies all the time though, but he is very good at fooling the foolish . For the sake of the country I really hope he doesn’t return, but I hope he does, he will destroy the Tories
"
“The truth is everyone lies” so you just lied therefore it isn’t the truth that everyone lies! Tricky stuff language ain’t it!!! |

True just complicit in the Govt equivalent of corporate manslaughter. Thousands died when his Govt policy was to send elderly people out of hospitals, untested for Covid, into care homes.
He was part of the Govt that refused to recognise the warnings of Operation Cygnus and were unprepared for the pandemic with inadequate PPE causing the deaths of healthcare workers and care home workers.
So not a murderer but...! |

Interesting how whenever Pat’s obvious profiles go quiet, you pop up. Rarely (if ever) see both of you posting in the same threads or at similar times.
Obv now if this is Pat he will need to address that, but a skim back through the threads makes it clear you are not active at the same time. That combined with a similar syntax...hmmmm! |

Remind me as it's all a bit confusing, which one of those hats were worn when he sneaked off and spent the weekend with the son of the EX KGB officer..
And which one was worn when he promised not to cut fire cover in the Capital then did ..
And which one when he ignored the known lessons of his too late lockdown in 2020 but then ignored the SAGE advice to lockdown in September and had to in December, the latter now shown to have increased deaths.. |

Normally I would say yeah of course. There are plenty of tories on these forums. But language and how it is used creates patterns that are hard to break. It *could* be coincidence but I am not so sure.

I don't necessarily agree with the latter point, he is marmite so it's understandable perhaps how divisive he is..
I don't accept that MP's do get nicked etc is a valid reason for some to excuse a sitting PM, the first to accept he broke his own governments laws in a time of National crisis ..

right?
Will go with the principle of that yes, but how many times has he been sacked for lying before he became PM..?
The lesson if any in the future should be that in the highest offices we have as a country there has to be a bar set and that's for all sides..
In the private and public sector there is acceptable standards of conduct at all levels yet we seem ok with ignoring them for some populist politicians..
It's not proper..
I agree to a point, however I do feel that we are judge and jury based on nothing more than opinions.
And criminal fines..
A fixed Penalty Notice - loads of MPs have received one (some more than one)
And down and down we go..
I suppose if we're heading in that direction then the only way is up..
It’s not a downward spiral - like for like - it has to be judged on the same standards or it just appears sour/vindictive grapes ? why are we making a completely new rule book just for Mr Johnson ? "
Because he's a winner and he terrifies them - they can't win up against him, so they go for tittle tattle about cake causing millions of corporate manslaughter deaths ffs! |

I voted once for Blair's new labour, as it was time for the Tories to be in opposition but I didn't in his two other wins..
He was too Tory lite for my liking but he knew the only way to hold the post was the centre ground vote..
We've had the con that was brexit and people also fell for getting brexit done and leveling up, populist fallacies but they worked..
The Tories going further to the right are leaving the door open to the centre ground, it's all cyclical.. |

And you know for sure he did just because he told you? He had 59, the Tory party hate him , he lost , |

Johnson claimed he had 102 backers but still pulled out. He won’t disclose the full list of 102 people he says backed him. I would say that it is safe to assume he is lying (again). He pulled out because he didn’t have the numbers.
Should have stayed on holiday (wonder who paid for that one). Wonder what his constituents think of his work ethic? Time for a recall!
Such a winner! |

"Boris lied..
Well who would have thought that..
What’s he “lied” about now ??
Having 102 MPs backing him, utter bull shit

" why do you think he pulled out then ? What changed do you think?
If I took everyone on face value, I would guess someone has given him a heads up the investigation going well |

I also can see some other versions of reality that make sense
1) he has 102 qualified supporters. If I were a Boris supporting MP I'd say I'd declare but only once he got to 80+. If everyone said this, he'd get stuck, yet would still feel he has 102 supporters.
2) he is lying. This isn't just based on his character. I struggle to see where he got 100 from. He only had limited support given VoC + resignations. And a fair number of previous supporterw shad come out against him.
And if I was making up a number I'd choose 102. |

Absolutely delighted with developments Boris had the numbers but did the decent, right thing. His time will come again. Ben Wallace was my first choice, but as he didn't stand, my 2nd choice was Rishi. Great market reaction, ftse comfortably above 7000. Labour and SNP now rattling teeth and know we're in for a period of boredom and unity (thankfully) - then tax cuts will come in due course. First British Asian PM and of course, the diverse Tories delivered it! We've probably already had a gay PM, three women PMs and Labour just give you male, stale and pale!!
Dry me eyes - yes probably, laughing hysterically at Labour and the lefties trying to spin the diversity card and 'crashed' economy. Rapturous scenes at Downing St as the man who saved millions of jobs with furlough is greeted as new PM
@flabtastic - its brought a tear to my eye |

You seem to be missing the obvious third option.
They're all politicians. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Boris had 102 MPs all telling him that they were backing him, and then going next door and voting for Rishi. |
