I’m going to humour you for just a second.

Liz threw Kwasi under the bus by firing him for implementing her policy. The very policies she won for. She u-turned on absolutely everything in the mini budget? On that alone, she has shown she was a weak leader

Time for a new government.

I’m one of those people that currently feels politically homeless. So far I’ve always voted labour but I can’t do that with Keir as leader. It’s all just a big mess but I’ll vote anyone that will get the tories out at this point even if that makes life worse. You vote for anyone no matter what was in their manifesto just cause it looked like they would win??? "

Well the only realistic options are Labour and the Lib Dem’s. My heart is with the Green Party but they won’t win. I also live in a labour/cons swing seat so I’m most likely going to vote labour.

So no I wouldn’t vote for just anyone. Goodness I forgot we have to be pedantic and spell everything out on here.

but economy was already tanked and she was putting money back into the average person pocket. It was indeed the Bank of England interest rate rise with out waiting that scared the markets and has pushed up inflation and mortgage rates. It is Hunt not Liz or the former chancellor who has reversed the Tax breaks, VAT breaks, alcohol duty and fuel support with out the BOE reducing interest rates which had infact made things worse for us all and will see a huge impact on the retail and pubs / restaurants sector. So why should Liz go did she do this ???

Suella Braverman was the shortest-serving Home Secretary for 188 years.

Kwasi Kwarteng was the shortest-serving Chancellor for 52 years.

Liz Truss Prime Minister for 44 days (10 of which had no Govt business due to Queen). Shortest term ever I believe!!!!

So much winning!!!!

At least there can't be another wallpaper scandal like above or with Labour's Lord Irvine of Lairg who demanded the refurbishment of his apartment with Pugin wallpaper, furniture and fittings in the late 90s!

Effectively she did via her failure to manage the process and the people involved.

I find it hard to believe anybody could have considered her to be competent based on what could be seen or heard of her as PM. If she'd stuck to her guns there was an outside chance she might have come through but she'd evidently lost confidence in her own policies. So how could anybody else have confidence in her?

I agree with you there should never have sacked the chancellor and should have gone after the heads of the BOE who are only putting interest rates up to line the pockets of the super rich and keep America happy.

In fairness when the pound has crashed to its weakest ever, the economy is tanking, the bank of England is having to put £68billion in to the economy, political commentators around the world are gobsmacked at what she has done, other tories are gloating that they said this woukd happen, and anyone with a basic understanding of economics is incredulous at the mini budget, it's pretty difficult to stick to your guns!

I know whom I would vote for. I have political standards and I believe in my party.

The tories have proven again and again that they are unable to govern. They are not the traditional conservative party - the party as a whole is moving in a very different direction. Which quite simply is unpalatable to most of the electorate.

You made an assumption, my dear and got it wrong.

OP, I understand how you feel. I think most people are losing trust in the fractured system. You will find a party that you believe in - I believe that. Just have faith

He can. There’s a limit on how many terms you can win. And technically because he won by general election, he can run for leader and pm again and it would still be his first time. Which means if we don’t have a GE until 2025 and he wins again. We’d be stuck with him

"It would be pointless having forum sections if we all post in the wrong ones. Please choose the right section

Thanks

That’s fine, I’m still new here and didn’t realise there was a politics forum as there were so many other polictics related threads in the lounge

So what exactly is the lounge for?

Thanks.

It's for lounging around in.

As long as you’re not talking politics? Got it"

(It was a bad joke. I think the lounge is just general chat.)

PAT if you’re reading this I have found one positive from Liz Truss being PM. Admittedly it is ONLY positive for Liz Truss...

After just 45 days in office Truss will now be entitled to £115k per year

…from the taxpayer

…for the rest of her life!

"Anyone know why there can't be a general election?"

Because the Tories don't want one?

Obviously, it's good she's gone; but to quote Winston Wolf:

"Well, let's not start sucking each other's dicks quite yet."

Just because a few of these dangerously incompetent fuckwits have had a steak driven through their hearts, doesn't mean there aren't enough of them left to cause you real pain. There are - and they're already doing so.

I've said this often enough in the past but it's worth bearing in mind, that during austerity - when only the poor and the vulnerable were bearing the real pain - nobody gave a shit.

Now that the middle class is in the crosshairs and the working class is facing poverty and homelessness - everybody cares.

I'm not saying they shouldn't - but don't forget, the people who put them there are still in charge of the country.

Not long ago, Nicola Sturgeon was criticized, by some, for saying she detested the Tories. Others felt it wasn't an unreasonable thing to say.

She and many others then said that it didn't mean individual Tory voters. But why not?

Ok, it's not nice to detest other human beings - but if you vote Tory, you enable the harm they do. So, why should you not also be detested? You're responsible for assenting to the harm of others, via government policies you believe in.

It's a valid principle - even though most of us would not adhere to it.

That said, you can see why the current crop of Tories in government really do taint everyone involved with supporting them.

The PDCA allowance allows former prime ministers to claim up to 115k per annum on office, staff and travel type expensive for the rest of their lives.

I personally don’t feel happy given the length of service, and the quality either…

There is already a sizeable petition setup campaigning against Lizz Truss accessing these funds on Change.org
