So whats peoples thoughts on the joke of a paper that SNP have published yesterday outlining their vision for Independence

1) we will just use another countrys currency for as long as we want and then ditch it for our own as yet phantom currency and they will be ok with that no questions asked.

2)we will need to have a border to check goods going to England and Wales but just at 2 points on road..not sure about the other multiple entry points in Scotland (rail/air/sea?)

3)we will rejoin the EU as a new nation. And theyll agree no questions asked even though we dont meet the criteria theyve set.

Anyone think its a credible plan? Really?

To be fair, it's a far more realistic plan than what's coming from Westminster

Wont disagree..but unless youre a limbo dancer surely the bar should be a bit higher than being a tiny bit better than that shambles!

Is it the lack of detail that's the problem, or the concepts?

Both..saying you will rejoin the EU as a concept is fine i guess. But not having anything from EU to substantiate that youd get in..or the criteria theyd allow us to rejoin under is flawed.

The concept of a border with England just for goods is flawed in itself detail or not!

No mention of the nuclear subs that would be sent back to England.

Yeah it's misleading. Should be a plan to try to join the EU.

But most voters don't ask questions or want details.

They certainly didn't ask enough questions in 2016

Some sort of road map with some credible timings on joining the EU would help alleviate some concerns. Preferably ones that the EU can verify as enough to gain entry. At present I only see some MEP's dismissing the chances of a quick join, which seem a bit premature but of course they are entitled to their opinion

Why bother with all that mucking about? Why not just adopt the Euro straight away? It'll mean a clean break from England, and there's no chance that the EU will allow them to join until they do adopt it, so why not do it from day one?

Or does that not fit in with the idea of a strong independent Scotland?

If Scots vote for independence, that's their choice. I won't be voting for it.

What immediately come to mind is the phrase: dodgy dossier.

According to the figures used in the analysis Ireland is much richer than Switzerland.

Why do purchasing power parity calculations using 2015 values? Economically that was a different era.

Some of the proposals seem entirely inconsistent. Eg open border and membership of the EU. Given the EU's position on the Irish border, it is hard to see them accepting anything less than rebuilding Hadrian's Wall.

Longridge

I fully support them and if successful in joining the EU, will get a passport and visa them move to Scotland.

Cameron, Blair, Clegg and Brown and all the others who made an argument to stay with us, assured Scotland that membership of the EU was the biggest reason to vote no.

Significant change, give them the vote.

I'm sure the Scots will welcome you with open arms. They're always happy to have English people buy up Scottish housing

See you in about 20 years maybe then as thats about when we might possibly have a slim chance of being considered for EU membership

Why do you think that Scotland wouldn't be accepted within (say) 5 years?

Even if yes vote we wont be officially independent for a few years. Then i order to join you need a currency. Thats at least 5 years away if not longer. Then you need to have a sustainable debt level. For first 10 years at least official forecasts show we will be in huge amounts of debt. So EU wont even entertain us. If we get to that point..we can then go through process of joining. Which takes time. And we will need a negotiated UK protocol for trading goods across the rest of UK...did you note how long Brexit has been still getting negotiated? 20 years all in id say

I don't think that Scotland will need it's own currency to join. That would seem a pointless requirement if the EU is going to force them to adopt the Euro anyway.

I agree with you on the debt level issue, but the EU has been known to get creative with the figures when it wants a country to join.

But as for the general bureaucracy and the tendency of the EU to take its time doing things, I have to agree. It might indeed be as long as 20 years.
