Well she was previously Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, so perhaps the comments are historic? Presumably she's stating that she supports the idea of a Jewish homeland in Israel.
Politically, that's significant because decisions we make as a country re: Israel will impact on our international relations. Donald Trump made one hell of a statement in Zionist terms by moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, for example. |

Yes I remember when he made that statement and there was uproar in the Middle East.. so much for trying to make peace over there.. and she has said the same thing.. how about sort them mess we are in first.. before making statements like that.. As I said, as with anything, it's a spectrum. It can be extreme (or extremely extreme).
On the fundamental level, it's support for a Jewish homeland in Israel.

The problem, as you point out, is that this concept is pretty uniformly rejected by Muslim majority countries, some of whom are supposedly allies or at least associates of the UK.
Politics is all about deciding where to place your bets. Truss as PM will have to decide who she thinks the UK should cosy up to.
Being an outright Zionist would put her on a collision course with a lot of countries, politically. That's very relevant to us. We cannot just look inward and pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist. |
