Just read that. Aren't Mogg and Kwerteng on the BEIS? If the IMF, Banker, Pensions, BOE, Rating agency and Fund Manger advice is getting ignored, there needs to be a intervention, at some point someone big is going to go bust not just the little guy. |

I guess we're going to have to reset the clocks every day that there's a power cut and also what happens to people with animals with heating needs, like my neighbour with her little tortoises that have a heat lamp?
I could easily volunteer to have no electricity for 6 hours a day, apart from keeping to salt lamps on and and the power light on some appliances I don't use much anyway. |

"Well at least we now know the worst case scenario…. Now pray for a mild ish winter!!!! "
Worst?
You don't believe that, surely?
And, if the the United States blow up the Norwegian pipeline like NORD STREAM last week? 40% of our supply falls offline?
Only 5 weeks ago, Trusty Liz was telling us they'll be no restrictions and energy supply is a plenty..
Prayers might not be enough.. |

Okay… 2 things
A) why would the Americans blow up the Norwegian pipeline?
B) do you think the Americans tampered with nordstream, rather then the Russians?

The Russians are the only ones stupid enough to blow up nordstream
It must have seemed like a good idea at the time

It was sarcasm..
We all know who really did it, but people here believe it was our US friends to make us buy their gas..
We also know that that precious pipe is very vulnerable now, don't we?
Speaking of buying gas, 22x bottles to take to be filled tomorrow. |

Add the 2 percent cut in oil production announced by Opec in cahoots with Russia and its looking a bleak winter. So much back for the payback for the West looking the other way over Saudi actions in Yemen. |

The 2% cut might not be anything quite as bad as it sounds… bear with me…
OPECs target at the moment is to produce about 100 million barrels a day, however in this period the average amount of oil they have actually produced is about 98.5 million barrels… some days as low as 97 million
So if the target comes down to 98 million what a lot of that will be is taking surplus off market
Yes in theory it’s 2 million Barrels, in practice it may around 500-750k barrels |

RE: Tortoises
The government aren't forthcoming with advice. If 3 hours, they'll be OK with towel round them or tank.
If longer, and there is potential for it, then alternative source of power would be needed. A generator, UPS or battery / inverter.

So, the government are not going to be running an energy efficiency information campaign (although most of the advice is pretty obvious anyway). Apparently everything will be fine.
Time to service the generator this weekend I think. |

There's no point doing so at the moment. Even if they do persuade people to cut down a bit, there's nowhere to store the gas that we might save.
When Rough Gas Storage Facility re-opens, then we can start telling people to cut back. |

They should have been running a save energy for Winter campaign since the end of Spring. I spoke to my local Conservative Councillor who I asked to get me in touch with government. He laughed and said, if true, he'd come to mine to keep warm and have a brew!
I have also asked about plans fir keeping people warm in community centres. Great idea until you here that no generation is planned as a backup to keep heating running.
I fear, another expensive Public Enquiry heading our way.
It's an abhorrent and life threatening failure.
As for the comment on 3 hours to 3 days, you're absolutely right as what may happen if High Tension lines or substations are damaged by the surges.
It's very precarious.
AND, being a very suspicious minded person, these EU Interconnects Luz is relying on. How do government not know that 'charges' have not already been laid on or near said infrastructure?
Boom - No Norwegian gas
Boom - No North Sea gas
Boom - No Internet
Boom - No domestic offshore wind
Boom - No EU electricity
Wouldn't take much to put this country on its knees. Our Royal Navy has been tracking and chasing Russian Navy away from our underwater infrastructure for many years.
Last resort before Nukes?
Never say Never.. we are at war. |

National Grid is set to give an updated outlook following criticisms that it did not take into account the stress on the European system.
But National Grid Electricity System Operator, which released an early provision forecast in July, only suspected that the power outage would last only six minutes, although its analysis makes the assumption that interconnectors with Europe will send over 5.7 Gigawatts of electicity when the UK is in need.
Since then, fears that crucial imports could be slashed have soared as France's power output plummets, while the UK's biggest importer of gas, Norway, has also threatened to limit its exports to Britain amid Europe's energy crunch.
“As a result of the extreme droughts and the lack of water that is hitting hydroelectric systems in key interconnector markets like Norway, coupled with the issues we are seeing in France with their nuclear reactors, there are significant doubts about the availability of electricity coming into GB from the continent which is critical to our security of supply.” |

Problem solved
“To keep the lights on this winter it is likely that the energy system will need to fire up its ageing coal power stations despite our recent commitments to climate action. Whilst coal has made a much lower contribution to UK electricity supply over recent winters due to the success of deploying offshore wind and other renewable technologies, I expect that this winter we will see coal play a crucial part in providing energy security.” |

Energy security..
Fekin ha.. when trotted out by this latest bunch of shysters who have done nothing in the last twelve years till Putin went into Ukraine but degrade gas storage..
That complete moron Truss when asked on local radio here about fracking and the lack of any changes in the science which her party used to rightly bin the idea recently and the massive opposition from her own local MPs and the affected community could only answer 'i don't accept the premise of the question'..
Just fuck off, cretinous imbecile..

Did Dizzie Lizzie continously repeat "Her Energy Price Guarantee will CAP Energy Biils st £2500"
Broken Record..
Gas and Electricity bills will be lower this year, than last, because if there ain't any Electricity, you can't run the Boiler - so no charge.
Self imposed rationing, let the system run dry. Save the government a fortune in subsidised kwh's.
Got neat solution to run a gas boiler for 12 hours without mains on test here for £300.
Working a treat, used it last night and today. |

Which makes me wonder, if it's a choice of the lights and heating going out or fire up the coal power stations (with the obvious negative environment impact) what will people prefer. Stay warm or stick to the principal |

Do you seriously think lighting a few fires to make electric in the UK will make a jot of difference to the world's climate compared to China, Russia and the ol USofA ?
Nah ... Keep warm |

Was just interested if people's principles regarding things like coal outweigh the desire for warmth and possibly people dying from cold if the choice had to be made |

I completely disagree with coal, gas and oil but due to numerous government screw ups and failures on renewables, but its a stark choice of do or let them die.
We have no choice, lost ground will be made up in the mid term otherwise what we face this Winter will be Groundhog Day for years to come.
This is the wake up call to true Energy Security but making it, here at home from renewables, nuclear and ultimately (hopefully) fusion. |

With any luck we'll just struggle through this winter, and everyone will realise how much we need new energy sources.
Fusion has been just around the corner for decades now, but recent advances mean it actually might happen at some point in my lifetime (i.e. in the next 2 decades). |

However..
Without enough Gas availability, coal and other sources won't cut the mustard and its lights out.
Think we have less than 10% coal generation capacity availability (4.5gw) since they set dynamite under them and blew them up in a hail of clean fossil free future glory over the last 9 years.
Great News footage, but oh boy.. if only we could turn back in time..
Maybe, a better plan may have been to destroy the plants once it was assured they'd never ever be again, needed.
If you only watch one clip, make it this one, apt music considering where we are at today.
