"Should they have waited..? Is it heartless announcing the redundancies during the mourning period..?"
Charles hasn't actually fired anyone, or made anyone redundant. What he has done is notified all of his staff that his office will be closing down, and that there will be some redundancies. Employers are legally required to notify their staff as soon as it becomes clear that some jobs will be lost. |

I still think it’s incentive and timing could have been delayed. |

It is bloody obscene. The entire world is told to mourn his mother, with some families even getting the funerals of their own loved ones cancelled, and members of his own staff are told forthwith that they will lose their jobs whilst in the middle of the worst recession - even depression - for over a hundred years. They face the possibility of losing everything they have, it is undoubtedly the least well off of them that will be the first to be just discarded.
The monarchy has enough money that all these people could have been given a full pension for life. Instead they are just being treated like the rest of us peasants, like something that he would have somebody else scrape from his shoe, then fire yet another for letting him stand in it in the first place.
As a first act of a new king, this shows utter disregard of royalty towards people. The Queen was mostly perceived as a caring person hence the outpouring of national grief (although I would prefer her to have exerted some of her theoretical authority over the last twenty years or so to prevent the ongoing destruction of this country, but that is a separate matter). Charles though has started badly, every decision so far shows contempt for those of us who are just serfs. I imagine that the monarchy will continue, but the myth of a Union under the King will be over. The middle 21st Century will be no golden age, instead it will be miserable for many. |

Yes a very corporate response, treating people like numbers or machine with no human emotion, just going with the legal requirement line.
Forgetting that some may have been serving loyalty for years. I doubt there was so much haste to rush out these letters as everything else in the country is on hold. Doubt if it was done without his knowledge. |

I'll say it again, he hasn't actually fired anyone. All he's done is to put them on notice, which is a legal requirement.
"Forgetting that some may have been serving loyalty for years. I doubt there was so much haste to rush out these letters as everything else in the country is on hold. Doubt if it was done without his knowledge. "
We don't know the details yet, no one does. Maybe they will all get other jobs at the palace. Maybe some will voluntarily retire. Maybe they'll get an exceptionally generous retirement package.
I do wish that people would reserve judgement until the thing that they're judging has actually happened. |

Starting a thread saying the staff have been fired is a typical click bait leader.
They haven't been fired, they've been put on notice of redundancy and will go through the same process as anyone else.
Most of them will be offered jobs within other Royal households.
Their credentials and security clearances will make them "buyable" in future employment.
The timing is unfortunate and appears poorly judged. In reality they knew this was likely to happen in the circumstances.
It's a non story. Thousands of people are put on notice of redundancy every week, it's recently happened to me.
You're welcome to start a thread about how poorly I'm being treated.

So this office/these staff?...
Which office? The one that supports the Prince of Wales? Or the one that supports the food produce of the Duchy of Cornwall? Well there still will be a Prince of Wales. There still will be Duchy produce but with a different boss!
So aren’t all those people protected under TUPE (or was that another victim, ahem I mean benefit, of Brexit?) |

Watch out for Charles the turd, I reckon he’s going to be a nasty king. That’s why Boris engineered his own downfall, he didn’t want to be around when Nasty King Charles gets to work. Even Putin is shitting himself. Has he been invited to the funeral by the way?
Be warned, you heard it here first. |

The other problem is that it then becomes too many staff and not enough royal.. Charles in theory inherits the queen’s staff, William then inherits Charles staff… William has his own staff…ect
So if want a slimmed down royal family there are going to be less staff around… and all of the contracts are up until the queen dies, so it’s not like they were not aware going in!
Those staff who do go are likely to get a very good payout |

Exactly. I don't understand what people don't understand about this.
I need to have a look and see if the people bleating about how much the Royal family cost are the same people bleating about a reduction in staff.

I new someone who worked has a butler in Buckingham Palace. He told me the salary was crap, he could earn much more in the private sector.
They are supposedly meant to feel privileged to work for the Royals. The plus side was it gave them a great CV and boosted thier opportunities and earnings when they left. |

He has previous for being very undiplomatic with the Chinese for a start . a few wrong words can lose contracts worth millions. Beter to leave him talking to plants than talking to world leaders |

Indeed. But that's not really him being "nasty" as the other person suggested.
I'm not much of a Charles fan, but not heard him being called nasty before. |
