According to The Times...
Liz Truss is preparing to shake up Britain’s post-Brexit employment rights as part of her agenda to kickstart the economy before the next election.
Among reforms due to be examined are changes to the 48-hour working week, part of the EU working time directive implemented in the UK in 1998.
It prevents workers from being discriminated against or sacked if they refuse to work over 48 hours a week.
She is also understood to want to look at rules on taking breaks and calculating holiday pay that guarantees most people four weeks’ holiday a year plus bank holidays.
So while this seems to upset a few die-hard Leave voters who “want to move on” or think it is being mean to keep bringing Brexit up...THIS is another outcome. This is another example of Project Fear becoming Project Reality. You were warned. You ignored. |

I don't think it's going to be an issue for Remain voters anyway, given that they are mainly public sector workers who are already only working three of four days a week, that's the weeks they aren't on strike of course. |

Do you think he might have become so bored of his own cut and paste comments that he felt the need to start up an even less articulate profile ( tractors and trailers reference if anyone remember MrHay’s previous!) |

I am pretty certain Truss wants to "out Thatcher", Thatcher. That will spell terrible times for most workers whilst an elite few will grow rich.
The only thing is these days Truss has far less publicly owned assets than Thatcher to sell off cheap to the Conservative party supporters so a serious squeeze in workers rights will be the next best thing.
Now the UK has "taken back control" there is no safety device to stop the elite riding roughshod over the workers rights. Enjoy! |

Quick fact check. The conservatives have been in power since 2010. Winning four elections in a row.
It's my opinion that they will win the next one too.

It could be that the only credible alternative party hasn’t been credible for a while. They abandoned their core voters and treated them with contempt. Hence the Brexit protest vote. |

So while this seems to upset a few die-hard Leave voters who “want to move on” or think it is being mean to keep bringing Brexit up...THIS is another outcome. This is another example of Project Fear becoming Project Reality. You were warned. You ignored.
Enjoy!
Er, isn't the safety valve called a General Election? Or do you have no confidence in anyone other than the Tories winning one?
This "safety value" seems to keep failing consistently since 2010.
The lack of a credible opposition is the problem.
Labour can't even define what a woman is!
What does the definition of a woman have to do with anything in this thread?"
I think they were pointing out how easily Conservative voters are distracted and misdirected by the Tory supporting media. |

It sounds like a Tory talking point to me.
Sure the economy is collapsing, there's shit in the sea, we're losing international status, this winter we'll be cold and hungry. But look! There's monsters under the bed! Pay no attention to us further fucking up the country and giving money to our mates. |

As a centrist I have a lot of sympathy for the “there is no viable opposition” argument. With the performance of the Tories since 2010 and in particular since 2019, Labour should be an absolute certain thing over 20pts ahead in the polls at least. But no.
Tribalism can only account for so much. Labour should be smashing it! |

It's such a poor excuse for people to vote Tory. There are lots of alternatives. Not voting would be better for the country than voting for the conservatives. |

Tbh the way the system is set up, and erosion of electoral independence, also has something to answer for.
The government should reflect how the country as a whole votes. I have a lot of sympathy for the Westminster system, but it's producing absurd results when less than 40% of the vote can produce a stonking majority. |

We need PR. We need true representation where all votes count. Constituency politics is broken due to power of party whip. Those who oppose PR cite minority parties gaining a voice or influence but the counter is, so they should if enough people vote for them. They also cite destabilised governments while failing to acknowledge all the Scandinavian countries who seem to do pretty well |

Australia has AV in the lower house, and that allows more minority parties. Which - shock - cooperate with other parties. Lol (I won't bother explaining the Senate system, it's complicated hah)
I remember one of the arguments during the AV referendum being "look at the Australian system, it's so complicated!"
My thought in reply was "Australians teach this to primary school students. I first voted in an AV student council election when I was seven years old. Have some self respect, Brits, you are intellectually capable of this" |

People believe what they want to believe from political parties. The Conservatives are past masters at manipulation so they may well win because they will promise but not deliver.
Their standard MO is as follows. I will use the NHS as an example.
1. "The people are very dissatisfied with the NHS."
2. "We, the Conservative government, are DETERMINED to correct this."
3. "We have set up a wide ranging enquiry to find a solution"
4. The enquiry reports that privitisation is the answer. (N.B. the terms of reference were chosen to acheive that result)
5. The Govt sells the hospitals to the private sector and transfers the staff under TUPE. Tax cuts, primarily for the rich, result.
6. It all costs more and works less well because the primary focus of the healthcare companies is the health of their bottom line not the health of the people.
As with Brexit, those that voted them in will continue to defend their decision even in the face of mounting evidence to the contrary. So they will vote them in again. QED. |

I believe Australians and Brits are of equal intelligence.
Australians with average and below average intelligence can handle AV. Voting is compulsory in Australia, turnout is almost always over 95%, informal or spoiled ballots are around 1%. At least 94% of Australians are capable of voting under AV (taking 1% of 95% and assuming they can't, rather than they won't).
The argument I'm referring to went along the lines of, Brits are more stupid than the 94% of Australians who can manage it just fine.
I am not sure I have ever specified that only British people are susceptible to Covid misinformation. If I did, my apologies, there are also many Australian fucktards. The vast majority of them vote successfully too.
So my argument is, Brits are not significantly more stupid than Australians (including fucktard Australians). |

I don't think it's going to be an issue for Remain voters anyway, given that they are mainly public sector workers who are already only working three of four days a week, that's the weeks they aren't on strike of course."
Yeah.. erm… if they are looking at annual leave, that is a legal requirement so that would affect EVERYONE!!! …….
I know that mps like to only work 3 days a week.. but try telling that to a nurse, or a teacher, or the millions of council staff moping up after you!

One, I'm saying if this happens, that's likely the result. Two, I'm pretty sure what I said is that leavers would be gleeful that it would hurt people outside their tribe, and then puzzled when it also hurt them. Apologies for the inadvertent misunderstanding. |

Yeah, but in Australia there is significantly more blood flow to the brain, because of being upside down all the time. This probably helps cope with AV. |
