The EU is giving more than five million anti-radiation tablets to Ukraine, as fears grow of an accident at Europe's largest nuclear power plant.
Oh dear, we've been here before..
The EU said on Tuesday it was providing the tablets as a "preventative safety measure" to increase protection in the area around the nuclear plant. Five million pills will come from its emergency reserves and another 500,000 from Austria.

Sounds like a good idea to me. What about you, good idea or bad idea to provide the tablets?

A good idea and a responsible one too. Has to be done. People must be protected.
It also just so happens to conveniently feeds a narrative that a much bigger disaster could be around the corner, and NATO allies need to concentrate their minds and their chequebooks on continued support.
Even without that, it still needs doing anyway, but it's always good to have extra options for marshalling support.

You wouldn't want a nuclear power plant exploding in your face without a tablet to protect you. |

Do they actually protect?
They help prevent it getting caught in the Thyroid but there is no guarantee.
Having lived through the fall out of Chernobyl, then working for a Utilities company supplying water where 'sludge' from the peat floc during treatment was concentrated in radiation.
Having to test it with a radiation meter before deciding whether or not it was for landfill or to be treated as special waste.
It was still around in the peak district for years after.
The sheer stupidity of the risks they are creating. |
