So, for those in debt with energy, your £400 is going to be paid in 6 month installments, starting October at £67.

Very generous.

ah you mean the £400 subsidy to the energy company's that are making massive profits anyway

but we mustn't call it a subsidy as that a socailist thing we just call it a grant now

like we no longer call all the billions poured into the privatised railways a subsidy anymore even tho we are paying double what we used to to british rail hey ho the share holders are happy at both

The £400 they took from one Energy company to give to another Energy company on our behalf!

Direct debit bill payers will have the £66/£67 automatically credited to their bills.

Other payers will receive vouchers through the post.

Hopefully there will be a national publicity campaign, to alert everyone to what's happening.

The majority of this fuel crisis is manufactured by the fuel companies, for profit.

that and the register of interests showing just how many conservative and unionist politicians have huge investments in the fossil fuel industry.

I thought the £400 was for all households not just those in debt. Paying it directly seems sensible but maybe there is a better way

It's for energy.. I see the reason for over 6 months, if a lump sum is paid, it could put you in credit which you could draw down and spend on something else.

It's an attempt to offset payments without giving opportunity to pull funds out and later find its desperately needed, unless you are already in credit.

There is logic..

heard an interesting thing on the radio today the energy companys have already bought 95% of the renewable energy they will need untill 2025 at the rate of 3p a killowatt which they then sell onto you the consumer at 23p killowatt .the remaining 5% is bought on the spot market at anything upto £3 a killowatt guess which price is used to set the rate for your price cap ?

Even more of an insult, they pay 4.1p-6.5p/kwh for domestic Solar generation.

Octopus claim they make no more than 5% margin between supplier and consumer, yet they are currently selling it at capped rate of 28p/kwh..

I don’t deny there are many such people! Those groups need additional help with these unavoidable costs. However the post was about payment being made regardless if the household is in credit or debt. This country has a vast number who are in debt not because they can’t earn enough but because the spend too much! Take 2 households with the same income, why should the feckless spenders in debt be given more money whilst the other household has scrimped and saver to remain in credit?

There are plenty of households with comparable incomes but very different debt/credit status due to different spending priorities or mis-prorities

Don't think many planned for a £3000 rise in Energy bills, increases mortgage repaymens, 40% increase in vehicle fuel, food prices increasing this year.

It does all seem a bit bizarre .

Tax payers are funding this whilst the oil interests romp away with their profits.

I know there’s a windfall tax but it’s not being back dated and it’s not taking account of the huge uplift in profits which could be taxed much higher.

Before anyone shouts but pensioners .

Around 70% of BP and Shell is held by American investment funds .

So offshore tax wealth and American pensioners do nicely while U.K. workers on low incomes and some pensioners on low incomes struggle,

Good to see our government prioritise the U.K. population over any other country’s interests . Hmmm

"Why do we each give them the £400 ? Why can't they knock £400 off the bill ?"

That's what they are doing, It's being paid in 6 instalments. Anyone who pays by direct debit or has a bill will have that taken off each month's bill. Anybody who has a prepayment metre will be sent vouchers to top up the metre Either by text message, Email or letter.

How will people like me who pay quartely in arrears receive the £400?

This wouldn't be a crafty ploy to get everyone onto direct debit, by any chance?

Then you will still get the same amount taken off your bill each month which means you're quarterly bill will be less.

The only people that potentially will miss out on this are those that pay their landlord. The hope is the landlord will pass this saving on to the tenant but obviously that's not guaranteed. I used to pay monthly like you would the energy companies to my landlord, He was brilliant and if I was owed money I would always get it back and I know for a fact he would pass on the £400 saving but many would not.

£3 Billion? Never good a maffs..

Take the point, I'd forgotten that bit. They should, and probably will take more.

To pay tax.

the consumer pays the tax. And tax on profits sounds like something from a commy dystopia not a capitalist dystopia. They pay everything out including tax and what is left is profit but because they have been good capitalist and made a profit they get taxed again.

How is that going to bring in investment when if you make a profit you get taxed twice.

I think they make it messy on purpose to give you credit.

It’s easier to claim some good bits and avoid the bad bits.

The oil companies have raked in hundreds of billions over the years. Money that should have gone to invest in the U.K. infrastructure but instead it’s in the hands of foreign investors.

U.K. for sale . Billions of litres of water leaking a day, hundreds of thousands of sewage leaks a year and decades of dividends for our water companies investors who are 71% foreign based.

WTF are we allowing this for?

Regardless of how you want to present it , investors in these companies will either be pensioners, pension funds or private shareholders. They have invested for income streams , not capital appreciation.

Capital investment is always expensive.Maybe the funds are simply not there . How many people want to pay more for their water than they currently pay.

Energy prices are not going to come down.

This whole debacle has been caused by the stupidity of the EU in imposing sanctions on Russia which have bitten back hard.

The era of cheap energy is now perm over , rolling black outs and energy rationing is now a real possibility.

The oil companies and gas companies have no interest whatsoever in the public, their entire raison d'etre is profit. It is capitalism in its purest form and it will never be given up, ever. If the govt tries to tax these companies hard then the govt will be replaced, the power of these companies is beyond that of our govt.

This is the effect of capitalism and American Imperialism on Europe. It is a devastating and catastrophic mix.

"Energy prices are not going to come down.

I have to say blackouts will be a regular occurrence and with the new smart metres that are been pushed the energy companies can turn off your supply without warning.

That’s how science works... a radio controlled device can’t be controlled if it can’t receive radio signals..

this signal you talk about radio obviously but how they turn you off is thru your supply you can send internet down a 240 volt line the metre has a socket client that talks to a socket server which is at the hub end ie the energy company and by sending a message to the client on the metre they can and will turn off your supply.

Do you not think if no confirmation is received back, that they'd knock on your door, with a warrant if necessary?

The meter is connected to mobile phone networks, 2G, 3G and 4G. There are many defeat sensors so I wouldn't recommend fudging it.

hiding from cock pics.

I'm undecided about a whether it's a good idea or not, but there is a website called "don't pay UK" and and a wave of people trying to get others to not pay their energy bills in a kind of protest similar to the council tax protests years ago.

They reckon if enough people don't pay it will make a massive difference and something will be done.

By October if the info is correct then just the gas bill for many homes will be over £500. I really don't know how I'm going to manage.

Did Poll Tax protests work?

It just became the Council Tax instead.

I could be wrong but it would definitely destroy your Credit status and no doubt, court and bailiffs will be involved at some point.

To disconnect gas or electricity supply, they can force entry with a court order.

There are some cases where disconnection cannot happen, between Oct and March or at anytime if there is a qualifying reason.

It will be twice as high as that. People don't realise that Russia is going to cut of all gas supplies to Europe. They're done with the EU. It's over.

Good, and I'm also done with a murderous autocratic bastard in a country that has a whole GDP less than that of Texas.

The sooner he fucks off with his gas and oil, the better the outcome for the planet as a whole.

Cold Turkey sometimes is the best way forward as it makes people focus.

Russia spends a few billion more than the UK on military defence and it is the largest country in the world I ask the question were is the money going on uk defence when we are one of the smallest countries. And we don't have hypersonic missiles we do have a space force though and a minister to go with it.

Have you not seen the $billions worth of very expensive Super Yachts that have been arrested around the globe?

That's where all Russian money is, floating palaces, property, football clubs and bank accounts. Maybe Russian people should ask where all the money's gone?

The country with the world's largest natural resources who's soldiers are stealing washing machines, underwear and anything else they can carry as they are poverty-stricken.

Maybe give to the poor bastard Russians that are still shitting in cold communal outside toilets and heating their houses with dried cow-shit. (Sorry, cess pits as they're not even toilets).

"Even more of an insult, they pay 4.1p-6.5p/kwh for domestic Solar generation.

Octopus claim they make no more than 5% margin between supplier and consumer, yet they are currently selling it at capped rate of 28p/kwh.."

7.5p from octopus which is more than most but frustrating having to import for 28p.

Do you have batteries, hot water and air conditioning/portable heaters?

It is disgusting they make so much on your expensive kit. If nothing else, get batteries so at least your not buying in overnight.

I offset the surplus against gas usage.
