"Let’s see what happens when they are all on their way home again
Looking forward to massive jams at Calais and all the locals moaning like fuck because they cannot get around "
Why are you looking forward to British holiday makers being stuck in queues for hours ? |

Have you been to Calais? The port traffic doesn’t impact the town at all. |

I think the port of Dover has been exposed in the same way the airports were over Easter and the bank holidays.
They seem to be managing the fallout by blaming the French, which plays nicely into the hands of those who like to be heard... |

They are the ones heading for a country who is making them suffer by inefficiency on their side.
Only manning half the booths, not starting till late after the traffic has all built up.
All part of the strategy to punish the uk for having the gall to leave their club |

I see, so fuck the British holiday makers for wanting to go abroad in their cars. Are you suggesting that 6 French border guards not turn up for work (apparently ) has caused all these delays? |

I have fond memories of many a trip towing my caravan to the south of France when my kids were young. Time it right and it was a breeze to board the boat or the train, often the French control would just wave you through.
The only grief was UK customs sometimes diverting you to their shed for a daft inspection, the only hold ups were on the M11 or the Dartford crossing. In fact, the biggest travel anxiety all the way from home to the Mediterranean was that fucking toll at Dartford . I enjoyed the ‘challenge’ of the Paris peripherique. Happy days, I miss them. |

Wow, 6 people caused all these problems? I thought Brexit was about taking back control instead of relying on half dozen French men |

Not for me but that’s just age & circumstance. I guess the people that were held up at Dover were doing it? Many things seem to conspire against it - Brexit, cost of fuel, environmental concerns etc. Shame as it was a real eye opener for me - my first ever trip abroad at the grand old age of 27, I thought it an incredible thrill to drive through most of the night and suddenly be in a Mediterranean climate. I loved it and thought at the time, everyone should do it. Easier these days for a fly & flop holiday, all inclusive, avoid the foreigners and their dodgy food. Not for me. A rail trip in September- France & Spain for 26 nights. I’m halfway through the planning & bookings and loving it. Kick off with Champagne at St Pancras, late lunch at Le Train Blue, gourmet restaurant at Gare de Lyon before heading to Marseille. |

"Probably quicker to get a dingy across from Calais than it is to queue and go through the official legal route."
your extreme xenophobic joke there is utterly disgusting and if you had any degree of dignity or even a modicum of a moral compass you would feel ashamed and appologise. |

Interestingly, as I passed through French Border Control Saturday night (having been queuing for 7 hours) 'getting a dingy' was the suggestion form the FRENCH booth.
The return journey was chaos. High vehicles aiming for certain lanes, mixed operator traffic a total mess and not an official in sight. something like 15 lanes trying to get through 7 P&O gates, then down to 4 French border control then down to 2 UK border control desks.
So I'd lay blame at the feet of the UK, unless the French control how many desk we have open.
If I didn't live 2 miles from the Dover Port, I'd have flown and happily lost my baggage. |

I always thought Ukraine was a corrupt shithole. Now I see it's a rural freedom loving idyll where everyone works happily in the fields, the women all wander around with flowers in their hair, and the comedian in charge is actually another Churchill.
Well worth us all freezing to death and bankrupting ourselves over. |

No they are not. Stop pedalling propaganda.
They are, the vast majority are granted asylum, prove me wrong
Vast majority of whom? You are mixing those that arrive by legal means with those that sneak in illegally.
All immigrants, the vast majority are granted asylum, this is fact "
Including those that arrive by official means which is way in excess of those arriving by illegal means. |

"Pathetic, we used to have an empire and traverse the globe.
You say that as if it was a good thing.
It was a great thing
For whom?
Large parts of the world.
Why does it no longer exist then? Do you believe in democracy ?
All empires have their day. Of course.
Why, I thought they were a great thing? I thought you would be against immigrants illegally entering a country and forcibly imposing their culture and rules on a foreign land ?
Also giving them science, education, medicine.
Not too sure why you are trying to create a parallel with immigration problems of today.
There are plenty of other countries that have education and science that were not in the Empire. We arrived there uninvited, in boats,
Not too many at that time. All very primitive. Many parts of Africa still are. You are aware of the saying “out of Africa”?
If I was as utterly uneducated on a topic, I probably wouldn't contribute.
This confirms that you're just a troll saying the stupidest shit you can think of. "
Of course I’m not a troll. Who would I be trolling? Simply because you disagree doesn’t make other views ‘stupidest shit’ |

Maybe fly over to Poland, go across the border and tell the Ukrainian people that what they're going through will be beneficial once subjugated..?
I always thought Ukraine was a corrupt shithole. Now I see it's a rural freedom loving idyll where everyone works happily in the fields, the women all wander around with flowers in their hair, and the comedian in charge is actually another Churchill.
Well worth us all freezing to death and bankrupting ourselves over."

Amazing, so:
Invading countries and stealing their wealth, good.
People fleeing warzones for a better life, bad.
You know as well as me that nobody crossing the channel in a dingy is fleeing war zone. Why do you peddle such nonsense?
They are also fleeing persecution, that is why the vast majority are granted asylum

From a select committee;
In 2020, 98pc of Chanel migrants claimed asylum.
Of these, 70pc were refused under Dublin. Of course we decided to exit that.
Of the remaining, 2/3rds were granted asylum of other permission to stay. 1/3rd were refused.
This isn't too far off the overall success rate.
Fairly sure I've posted this before, so slightly disappointed that regulars are still claiming it's propoganda. Maybe they missed it the last time. |

Tbh whether you or I think a place is this or that is irrelevant, it doesn't make right what's going on ..
No more than the colonisation of countries historically to strip them of resources etc..

I know nothing of Ukraine now or before the war, and neither I suspect do 99% of the West's population.
The West's justification for and history of involvement or success in wars over the last twenty years has been dismal and I'm extremely dubious about whether this one is going to be any different.

Plenty of people know something of Ukraine, and did before the way.

In the 40s though we were United in fighting an evil regime that threatened our way of life. We also endured a couple of harsh winters. Perhaps several generations that rely on some poor guy on a bike to deliver their tea, kids that have never heard the word ‘no’, kids that can’t be arsed to walk and need an electric scooter, kids that can’t even work out if they want to be male or female.
Fuck me - we are doomed. DOOMED I tell you! |
