Liz Truss - Populist

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Considering the chameleon like tendency she exhibits, first a Lib Dem, then Remoaner, then a Brexit ultra, then a Look a like thatcher impersonator, now the Slob in a wig.

Can she be trusted to run a government? Will it be business as usual, will her premiership be one of cakeism, uncosted solutions and false hope?

Also do you think that after the previous premiership, our relationship with populism hasn’t waned but is significantly increased?

"The Slob" is his 'amusing' nickname for Boris. He is attempting to suggest that Liz Truss is Boris' puppet (as if we didn't already know that).

You missed the comma out between "slob" and "wig", which changes the context of the sentence.

I think, whoever the candidates are, it is undemocratic for 0.2% of the country to choose our PM. It is pointless me having an opinion on either Truss or Sunak as I don't have a vote.

Getting back to the subject - it seems obvious to me that Liz Truss is a puppet of Boris and his gang. She was clearly chosen because there isn't a single thought in her head, and she'll do whatever they tell her to.

But no one seems to be saying this. Is it because everyone is far more polite than I am, or could it be that I'm wrong?

dorries will be elevated to the lords in johnski's resignation honours list. this will cause whoever the new idiot-in-chief of the conservative and unionist party to fight a bye-election almost immediately after taking office in the autumn.

What I would like to know, is this:

if Liz is right about her and her kind having fucked up the economy for the last 12 years; then how are all the positive stories in the right-wing media, entirely to the contrary of her view, to be adequately explained?

After all, if we are to believe what people like Costa and the Haybrain tell us - Liz must be wrong, in her admission of Tory failure to improve the economy. If they're right.

But how can she possibly be wrong? She's Thatcher reborn. That's all that matters. Her fitness to be PM - or the lack of it - are no more relevant than Boris' were, when he was the chosen one.

If she's right about the economy, during their tenure, then all the Tory fanboys/girls are wrong.

Or is it possible that she and they are both wrong?

I know she said the last 20 years but 12 is more than half of 20.

To undo the damage allowed to happen, in the previous 8 years, by Labour's failure to regulate the financial sector - which most Tory politicians approved of - they went for 10 years of austerity.

Contrary to their mantra, we were not all in the financial crisis together.

The greed junkies in the City were actually rewarded, despite causing the financial crash - whilst services were cut and millions more children were forced into poverty and hunger.

Why? Well, because increasing inequality, decreasing opportunity and failing the vulnerable, are all a lot easier than taxing those who can very definitely afford more.

Liz believes lower taxes are the way - but only for those who pay the most tax.

We'll have two years to find out if she's right.

I think that you are right about this and the consequence of this truth is that her advisors will make sure that she avoids scrutiny at all costs. In other words, no interviews or press conferences.

There is also another possibility that she is being set up to fail so that a new Leader will be in place before the next General Election. This is why it is important that the Parliamentary Standards enquiry is completed and Johnson held to account. It is entirely possible that Truss faces and loses a confidence vote in Spring 2023 and Johnson is nominated as a Leadership candidate.

I'm waiting for one of the candidates to renew the calls for return to proper British weights and measures, none of this European metric nonsense with it's multiples of ten all the time, how does that help anyone learn to multiply by 56 and divide by 14?

Speaking of which... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truss_(unit)

Fifty six pounds of Old Hay = one Truss !!

But on a change of profile name, apparently, it takes Sixty pounds of New Hay to make up one Truss.

She is an ideological butterfly, flittering from one idea to the next, all in the pursuit of power. Easily swayed, I suspect she will be nothing more than a puppet of the papers.

What irks me the most is that those tory voters are going to have a person who voted remain as PM. Bunch of hypocrites if you ask me, she will probably get brexit undone somehow.

Fancy only having the choice (for a tiny minority of UK citizens and any people abroad who for £25 can join the Conservatives Abroad) between a City Wide Boy Tax Avoider with huge family conflicts of interest and a complete thicko who is clearly very easily manipulated (and therefore compromised) for our next PM!

I would say puppet of whoever was behind Boris rather than Boris being any kind if puppet-master.

The difference is that Boris was clever enough to know he was being handled but too greedy and narcissistic to stop it whereas Truss is too thick to know she is/will be a puppet.

I think the "pot and kettle" aspect of Liz's remarks may well be lost on her.

Anyway, if she keeps on talking like that, she'll just ensure that Nicola, or some other SNP leader, will be ruling in the Scottish Parliament, long after Liz is gone.

I've said it before - as long as the Tories are in charge at Westminster, the SNP will be in charge at Holyrood.

If ignoring Scotland is the best England can manage, that's not going to preserve the Union.

Believe me, I live here and it amounts to the same thing - because although 50% of Scots aren't keen on independence, which is fair enough - 70%+ of them are even less keen on Tories. With good reason.

The Tories ignore most of England - even now, after people who should have known better, gave them a go. If you think that's not the case, you haven't been paying attention.

The notion that Scotland and Wales will not be ignored by a Truss government is ridiculous.

They will be - partly because, in order to try and avoid Northern Ireland descending into conflict again, all their attention will be focused there.

Why? Well, due to her own government's catastrophic inability to understand the foreign policy consequences of Brexit, in a Protocol they came up with themselves.

Remember, Liz is part of a government elected for loyalty, not ability, not on merit. She, like the rest of them, can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

So, ignoring something you know you can't cope with; for her, it's just a defence strategy.

Indeed not - but definitely a majority of them, no matter who they vote for.

I think you'll find that applies in England, too. Though, to be fair, it's more obvious up here; due to our Parliament being representative of the vote. Something unavailable in Westminster elections.

If it were, we wouldn't be as fucked as we are now.
