So the UK has failed to implement the Northern Ireland protocol, the agreement we made to enable brexit. Now we are breaking our contract.
EU say they can impose millions of pounds of daily fines. Lorry queues at Dover again. 300,000 students have lost their opportunity for Erasmus, the NHS money never materialised. The economy has lost £100Bn annually in trade

Nothing happens. None of this means anything to those who orchestrated and benefited from brexit.
The people who voted for it will still pretend it's all worth it for blue passports that we could have had anyway, and/or will blame the EU/Remainers/Corbyn.

That's where I got to as well. It's not clear what the root cause is. Dover isn't gonna say it's them so I suspect we won't know from few days.

Swings and roundabouts if this is better. I believe Turi g doesn't cover tuition fees and a lot is being spent on visas.

We are now losing in excess of £40b in tax revenue directly due to Brexit.

It has been sending more than usual in recent weeks, effectively acting as a “bridge” to Europe for supplies of liquified natural gas shipped in from around the world. "

yes, when the gas which we have sent for storage in the EU is pumped back for us to use in the winter the cost will have increased and the figures will show a very steep drop in exports and the equivalent steep rise in imports. when we have used the stored gas by around new year as is the norm, the uk will be forced to resume buying russian gas from third party countries again, only the third party countries will add the usual extra margin that they always have done increasing costs further.  |

They don’t start litigating because a pack of sausages from Liverpool only destined for a supermarket in Belfast needs to be checked by said friend and neighbour and they want uk to do that for them …
Yes I know ! Somewhat generalised, but the bigger point is there. Pragmatism is the order of the day … and it’s being shunned by the EU in favour of an over zealous petty attitude.
(Petty, yes! and ridiculous - the EU are still holding back association to Horizon Europe for the sake of said prepacked sausages.)

Two, getting ready for supply in the winter.
My reading is that we may improt more in winter than we export in the summer, with Europe filling the rest of the storage elsewhere.
But there is a risk "elsewhere" isn't going to fill the storage, so we want to top up the sttitgae with more of our own somwe know it's there when we need it.
That's the reason for emergency legislation. It's self serving.
But should the UK be able to break other promises because it's being helpful elsewhere. That's not a healthy relationship. |

It was clear from the outset of the Brexit campaigns that the NI issue was an impossible step to acheive.
The leaver leaders claimed they could sort, but their claims were as untrue as their £350m a week saving being given to the NHS. Still Boris "Got it done".
I believe now the only solution is for NI to join with Eire so it becomes the United States of Ireland. They retain autonomy but can join the EU.
I sincerely hope the Scottish people will think long and hard before seeking to break with they UK based on the stories being told by independence advocates. |
