Yet more horror stories of abuse on an epic scale. But after all the other similar stories it still doesn’t seem to get the amount of press coverage and demands for action that it should.

It really is a scandal that the authorities don’t care much for working class children. What do you think?

I only caught bits of the story on the news but a recurring theme was that people were afraid to speak out for fear of being called racist. I'm not sure yet if they mean social workers or the police or whoever but not a good situation

The press have been so wrapped up with the various Boris and Tory pantomimes that they have not been looking at reporting real news stories for a very long time. The days of campaigning journalism such as the Sunday Times did under Harold Evans (their editor) seem like another age altogether. It is tempting to call the reaction to this horrible story as racist or to blame the social services for being too PC for their own good but that’s a quick easy way to make some noise, wash your hands of it and look the other way. There are so many other influences on this story - ingrained sexism, over sexualised society, low achieving boys who want all the trappings of gangsta life, under educated girls who fall for these bad boys, closed communities who deal with their own problems (or not!), unrealistic parents….etc It’s a shitty thing to happen and the social workers and police have some serious questions to answer but so do the government who have imposed austerity on them for 12 years. This isn’t Jimmy Saville or predatory people in powerful positions, this is scummy low level drug related criminality which has been covered up by the community it took place in.

Unfortunately, the victims of these types of horrific crimes tend to be afraid of speaking out for a variety of reasons
