meanwhile james cleverly (either a misnomer or oxymoron or both) is working extremely hard to maintain the conservative and unionist party's unelectability.

Have you seen the Tory party statement… it’s particularly salty!!! They seem to have very short memories as they were not salty when Dominic Cummings was testing his eyesight all around the Barnard castle area!

Thank goodness we managed to avoid the “chaos under Corbyn” that Boris Johnson warned us about before the last election.

Before that didn’t the Tories warn of chaos under Ed Miliband? Good job the last 12 years have gone so well under the Tories isn’t it...oh!

I think the only instance of someone living rent free in a bunch of right wing minds than Corbyn does with the Daily Fail readers...

Is how Elliot Page lives rent frees in Gender Critical minds atm, merely for existing.

and the conservative and unionist party are still today attempting to present the alternative to their totalitarian rule as a 'coaltion of chaos'.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha Starmer asked if anyone from the Daily Mail or the Express wanted to ask him questions, now he's been cleared over beergate, and NONE of them even tried.

Come on Fab right wingers, where are you? Cannot wait to see your spin. A certain agricultural worker must be sweating away trying to think of suitable words. He’s gonna need a lie down!

. You will probably find that most Daily Mail readers are out working hard and this issue is of no interest to them. Having a beer is hardly exciting news, those who read the mail will have much better things to do with their lives.

Oh Mr Hay that was poor. I has higher hopes your silence was because you were writing your next satirical masterpiece. But you weren’t!

The Daily Fail had 17 front page stories on beergate. That’s right...17! I think the Daily Heil considered it a big deal.

As for their readers being “out working hard” I thought you were more au fait with the demographics of their readership? Work is a distant memory for most lol!

I agree. It's not exciting. Waste of police time ?

Let's focus on the bigger news.

A ridiculous 200k for interior design, a party at chequers, or a meeting with a former kgb agent with no other officials present.

That's all come out since he's resigned.

Boris knows how to do exciting stuff.

. However did you actually read the news as reported in the paper. It simply reported the facts and allowed readers to draw their own conclusion . It never suggested that he should resign, his hypocrisy was simply pointed out. Being vindictive and spiteful are attributes normally associated with the left whereas the Mail simply presents facts.

I've noticed a bizarre desperate need to try to make themselves the underdog for certain groups.

Sun readers: don't you dare call us thick because we read the Sun!

Mail readers: don't you dare call us racist because we read the Mail!

Brexiters: don't you dare call us thick and racist because we believe in Brexit!

In each case, the commonality is they're simply being lied to by their information source. And instead of being angry they're being lied to, they try to become underdogs so they can get angry at somebody else instead. It's v strange.

PS the ones who truly think Mail readers + Sun readers + Brexiters are thick or racist are the Mail + the Sun + those pushing Brexit at the top. Because they're simply + cynically manipulating the confused anger of those groups.

He certainly does face a golden future. Going forward I'm sure he'll take that gold from anybody for anything. Hell, why not blood diamonds too? dirty Russian money? Riches from dictators? He doesn't have any pesky morals to slow him down. And I'm sure in the service of getting v rich he'll happily lie about anything or break any rule or law he doesn't fancy following.

You will probably find that most Daily Mail readers are out working hard and this issue is of no interest to them. Having a beer is hardly exciting news, those who read the mail will have much better things to do with their lives. "

So they have talked pat of the ledge then… so how was the 24hr bending mourning the loss of boris? I mean… you said it was just a rough sea!

"As for their readers being “out working hard” I thought you were more au fait with the demographics of their readership? Work is a distant memory for most lol!

The Daily Fail hasn't been in the business of news and truth for years, it is a Rage Farm, nothing more.

It has been even longer since it "simply reported the facts"

The only people who cannot see this are the Cattle being farmed.

Joking aside, I have seen the front page headlines (on Twitter) so I don’t need to read the rest?

Aha! As suspected - people that never read the papers in question , dismiss Sun readers as thick, Mail readers as gullible oldies. And they think they are really clever. How odd."

Why would a clever person or a non-racist have any interest in reading the sun, mail, express?

That seems a bit far fetched, even got this part of the forums.

. Those who choose to criticise readers of these papers probably never read ot buy the newspapers themselves. They are simply repeating a cliche . In many cases the Daily Mail has articles presenting both sides of an argument. Readers can then form their own opinion or look up facts for further information. Many of the readers of these readers undertake vital roles in society. Their opinions are just as valid as everyone else's. In many cases in life common sense is a vital ingredient in decision making.

Good to see there are an equal number of politically right people on here as well as politically left, it’s wonderful that there is such a balance of political opinion on this thread. Can you imagine an echo chamber where all Forum users thought the same, wouldn’t that be creepy.

In fairness to those on the left, we on the right are caustic about the Mirror and the Guardian, we don’t trust those papers. Having said that, I wouldn’t condemn their readership, I lack the snobbery needed to do so

A couple of my friends read the Sun. They are lovely guys & would do anything for you. It’s not my paper of choice but I wouldn’t dare to be so rude as to criticise them for their choice. How rude would that be.

They are not right wing fascists or Brexiteers by the way.

Unfortunately this is the modern way, we play the man rather than the ball. We attack the messenger rather than the idea being conveyed. I agree that attacking people over the choice of newspaper is wrong, it is prejudiced. I imagine a world where a different opinion or view is unwelcome and a populous that are encouraged to think the same and how awful that would be.

Have they told you why they read the sun? I don’t think anyone is suggesting that all Sun and Mail readers are thick racists, just the ones who believe everything that is written in them . I used to read the Daily Sport , but I can assure you I didn’t believe the stories

this bit of the thread spun off from a parody saying the mail only print facts. Someone said the only people believed that were xxxx. That's not all mail readers.

The following comments were along the lines that the labelling was a strawman out up by the readers or the papers themselves. I didn't spot anyone playing the man.

On other threads it can happen I agree. And is, as you say, the modern way.

Add in where you were born, how much you earn, etc.

Again a fair comment. I think is a danger when a sweeping generalisation is made about a group and then it goes unchecked.

there are constant attacks where a core cabal of fab posters are scathing of a persons wealth who disagrees with far-right ideology and presents facts that render the arguements behind their attacks impotent.

So with that cleared up and SKS setting out his stance on his intended relations with the EU (no return, no customs union and no single market) are we quite close to a Labour government?. Sounds like they will do ano confidence thing in the commons if Boris does not fully step down. Not sure yet if he favours high tax like Rishi or low tax like some other runner's but at least we are finally getting some details

As the Durham MP and Police commissioner said, this investigation has been a waste of police time and a politically motivated smear campaign led by the Daily Mail and local Tory MP Peter Holden. Another example of Tory sleaze and corruption

I agree.

Becoming Tory-lite may be the only way the press, corporations and billionaires will allow them to be elected, but it's fuck all use in terms of any meaningful change. Just more of the same, if slightly less horrendous, shit.

by the looks of it, it was Kim Mcguiness.

Let's also not forget that Holden had a "working lunch" with Gurkas about the same time.

The facts are a Durham university student stalked the SKS meeting and filmed through the windows while they were breaking for food and then posted it online. Laurence Fox, well known retired actor and lightweight political force then pushed the story on Twitter. Durham police looked into it and found no evidence of wrongdoing. Boris got fined once for numerous party gate law breaking events - the only sitting PM to have ever broken the law btw!

Local Tory MP Peter Holden then decides to pursue the matter - his choice or was he prompted by the PM? The Daily Mail devote a week’s front pages to the story and send journolists (sic) to try and buy up any incriminating evidence they can. A dossier is produced that then gets sent to Durham Police with no factual evidence and lots of hearsay. They then have to spend six weeks investigating this smear at some cost to the local taxpayer and conclude that their initial investigation was correct. Meanwhile Boris is forced to resign for yet another catastrophic misjudgment of what the rule of law means.

Can you see where this is going?

"Are you hinting at police corruption? "

No. I was suggesting that Joy Allen might not be an impartial commentator.

Regardless, it looks like that quote actually came from Michael Barton, the former chief constable of Durham. But then I suspect a lot of people have said the same thing.

Not being Tories is a valuable trait in this country right now.

But Labour aren't aiming to systematically defund the NHS so it can be stripped for parts, they also aren't trying to scrap our basic human rights...

If they got in and did NOTHING for 5 years, that would be better than having a tory government.

SKS pandering to the brexit vote, is what it sounds like to me, and I think he needs to grow a pair, to be taken seriously enough to lead the country.

At least it's official and out in the open now. So neither of the main parties are suggesting any closer relationship with the EU though hopefully a more honest one

What are Labour offering that the Tories aren't?

Not being Tories is a valuable trait in this country right now.

But Labour aren't aiming to systematically defund the NHS so it can be stripped for parts, they also aren't trying to scrap our basic human rights...

If they got in and did NOTHING for 5 years, that would be better than having a tory government."

Voting against something with something that is equally ineffectual, is achieving nothing more than trying to get your own way.

This way of thinking does not encourage a party to be better, to listen and work to deliver a better government, it allows lazy politics driven by a belief that they need to do nothing, because people will vote for simply for a change of leadership.

Pretty much where we are today, lacklustre politics.

I never claimed it would be an ideal or even good result. Just that Labour doing nothing for 5 years would be better than having the tories in power full stop.

That bit is still vague to say the least. However before, they were not committing to not trying to reverse brexit or things like the single market. Now they have basically got on the same page as the Tories. What is still vague is that they say they will have better negotiations with the EU but do not say how they will do that and do not say what they will do if they are unsuccessful and can't get change.

The Tories have shown nothing but contempt for the public at large.

I am advocating people vote for whatever person it takes to get the tories out of government.

I stand by my statement, % years of an ineffective labour government would be 10,000% better for the Country than another Tory government.

But here is the thing. They wouldn't be ineffective, they would be able to reverse a lot of the harm done by the conservatives. and Likely initiate new policies which actually help people.

I have read on some threads on here about reversing brexit . Yet now SKS is saying no reverse

and saying at same time to simplify paperwork ?

If I am right this means a renegotiation of some regulations , documentation of already agreed negotiated conditions?

If my opinion is correct ?.Then would not SKS make things clear by saying a renegotiation is needed ?

Your opinion can be in support of, or against of.

You entitled to offer an opinion, which you clearly have.

I do not accept your opinion. To be clear, it is due to your unwavering efforts to prove only one point, without considering any alternative.

They are not right wing fascists or Brexiteers by the way."

I have been catching up with the politics threads.

This comment reminds me of someone I know. He is when local , general elections on a canvasser. Yes goes to local party meetings . He asked me a couple of times as we worked at same factory to get him newspaper on way in. He wanted the Sun. I did ask why the Sun as yes Conservative newspaper . He was , still ? a Labour supporter. His reply was . It was the best for horse racing tips , details and who was running. So my comment also is . You cannot judge a person by the paper they buy. Some buy for a specific reason ?

"Where are they, the Boris is wonderful and will win several elections posse..

Seriously, on here after the brexit result many of us who were opposed to leaving didn't hide..

Surely there's some good news for them to twist and or embellish.. "

I think it'll be a little while before they're back. Their new leader will have to lift up their rock and tell them it's ok to stop hiding.

"No rules were broken, thoughts and prayers go out to Daily Mail readers at this difficult time

If they got in and did NOTHING for 5 years, that would be better than having a tory government.

I feel you.

My personal problem is that the bar is so fucking low right now. Being less shit than the Tories is rock fucking bottom.

Absolutely. but better is still better. And people are using the fact labour are shit right now as a reason to keep voting Tory... like what the actual fuck?

because your not getting your ideal solution you are going to vote for the people that hate you?

Nobody hates anyone as you are trying to claim, you are biasing off of you.

You are also promoting people to vote against what could be their values.

Think about how you are starting to represent yourself, it is not a good look right now.

At this point, anything but Tory has to be an improvement. They have fucked this country over in so many ways for so long.

Anything? I can give you many alternatives that wouldn't be better.

Promote the best way forward "

Realistically, the only likely alternative is Labour. Possibly propped up by Lib dems if they need the numbers. That has to be better than what the Tories have done to us for so long.

12 years of austerity under a conservative government has left us with what?

The highest government debt ever and the highest taxes in 30 years!

It’s hardly been a success has it?

What are Labour offering that the Tories aren't?

That bit is still vague to say the least. However before, they were not committing to not trying to reverse brexit or things like the single market. Now they have basically got on the same page as the Tories. What is still vague is that they say they will have better negotiations with the EU but do not say how they will do that and do not say what they will do if they are unsuccessful and can't get change.

I don't think it matters what he says. You can't polish the brexit turd.

It depends how you define success.

Sure, normal British people have been thrown under the bus, but they don't give a fuck about that either way.

Their goal is to remain in power for their own personal benefit. Handing billions of public money to their donors has bought their loyalty, which will guarantee reelection. So you could argue they've been successful at achieving their aims.

Of course. Some people buy the Daily Mail for the women’s magazine or the cooking supplement. But that seemingly innocuous content is used to pull you in (and sell advertising space at a premium) and they surround the “innocent content” with agenda driven editorial and over a prolonged period this is proven to skew a person’s world view and politics.

If you spend 30 years telling people the EU is bad with the odd big shocker story accompanies by a never ever ending flow of small “soundbite” pieces that are critical (bendy bananas is one of the famous ones) then eventually guess what...that reader who originally just wanted some recipes is now anti EU or anti immigrant or anti whatever is on the agenda.

Princes Risborough, Luasanne, Alderney

it appears that the conservative and unionist party have no direction, no policies and it's now as clear as mud as to what their party actually stand for. the only thing that is clear is that with such huge divisions within the party it is now impossible for them to govern the country. it is in effect us with an enormous vacuum devoid of government as the country navigates further and further onto the rocks.

Twitter is a social media platform, not a news outlet.

To suggest that the BBC has the same hate based agenda as the Daily Mail is farcical.

. However the influence of the Daily Mail is irrelevant in many respects. . Take the referendum. 17,410, 742 voted leave, 16,141,241 remain. If you were to make the ridiculous assumption that every Daily Mail reader voted leave and removed their votes , leave would have still won. Maybe you should just accept that most people are quite capable of making their own decisions and do not want those of others forced on them.

If those people voted in the interests of the UK, instead of abstaining or voting leave. We'd still be in the EU and wouldn't be dealing with a broken divided country.

So yes, this was a good example of the influence this paper has.

Spot on.

If you spend 30 years telling people the EU is bad with the odd big shocker story accompanies by a never ever ending flow of small “soundbite” pieces that are critical (bendy bananas is one of the famous ones) then eventually guess what...that reader who originally just wanted some recipes is now anti EU or anti immigrant or anti whatever is on the agenda.. "

They might have voted to remain instead

it's clear that the ramblings of a fringe news outlet such as the mail pandering to the hichly vocal minority on the far-right lunatic fringe can be discounted. especially in the wake of the recent wasting of police time by the gazette in question where there was absolutely no credence in their spurious and false claims against the labour politicians which it libeled over beergate.

"No rules were broken, thoughts and prayers go out to Daily Mail readers at this difficult time

That bit is still vague to say the least. However before, they were not committing to not trying to reverse brexit or things like the single market. Now they have basically got on the same page as the Tories. What is still vague is that they say they will have better negotiations with the EU but do not say how they will do that and do not say what they will do if they are unsuccessful and can't get change.

Like I say, they are still vague on details. It seems they agree things need to change and that somehow the fact that they will be negotiating with the EU will suddenly bare fruit. They are not clear on what they will do if their negotiations fail. The only thing they seem to commit to is no EU membership, no customs union and no single market. In a way it may help in that now the EU know the UK's position on those topics regardless as to who wins the next GE

Let’s hope a fresh approach on both sides will help the people in the UK and Europe that have been fucked around more than enough by Brexit.

the announcement does indeed bring certainty as opposed to what we have had until now, a rudderless government with an unpredictable leader, no clear policies on anything, surrounded by a fractured and deeply divided cabinet and a backbench engaged in a 'civil war' which has been raging on for decades.

now at least there is a chance for building on a solid foundation so long as the conservative and unionist party's attempts at the gerrymandering of constituancies do not undermine the democratic process.

And as said it is vague on detail. They now basically have the same stance on brexit as the Tories but fail to say how they will improve things. The closest so far is to just say negotiations with the EU will be better under them. They don't say what happens if the EU give the same answers

they now give certainty as opposed to the lack of clarity on what the conservative and unionist party actually stand for now. in short the tory's have no clear message on any topic at all.

Not remotely bizarre. All media is biased even the supposedly unbiased BBC. But few are as insidious as The Daily Mail. If there was an equivalent Communist biased paper I would crticise them too, but there isn’t!

among others are The News Line, The New Worker, Weekly Worker, Socialist Appeal ... others are also available.

i took my local conservative council to court when they attempted to ban these publications and the court forced the council to provide the newspapers in libraries and other local authority buildings where they provided balance to the right leaning newspapers the council provided. the council attempted to sue me and i was awarded several thousand pounds when the case was tossed out. i was awarded further thousands when their appeal also failed.

i have never really been interested in reading these publications owing to my being a firm centrist.

. However I do not think that you read the Daily Mail with any intention of taking an objective view of its content. Your objective appears to be only to find fault with it. My guess is that derogatory comments towards political parties or politicians with whom you disagree are perfectly acceptable to you. Criticism only becomes an issue it it is against a policy that you support , otherwise anything goes. .

it's worth noting the attacks by fringe lunatic newspaper the mail, when it made derogatory comments about high ranking members of the independent judiciary with which they disagreed with on it's front pages, by calling them traitors and enemy of the people, simple because they were going about their job in in an unbiased and non-partisan way. this of course made the very vocal minority who comprise the publications readership even more vocal.

In 2014 the Mail published a cartoon likening migrants to rats. Not only is the cartoon racist in its portrayal of Muslims – one man cannot be seen in any other detail other than his beard and a rifle poking out of his bag – but the choice of animal used harks back to Hitler’s Germany in 1939 when cartoons in newspapers often depicted Jews as rats – vermin that had to be got rid of.

in that instance it was quite clear that fringe publication, the mail, found it acceptable being derogatory about muslims merely because they exist.

"A couple of my friends read the Sun. They are lovely guys & would do anything for you. It’s not my paper of choice but I wouldn’t dare to be so rude as to criticise them for their choice. How rude would that be.

They are not right wing fascists or Brexiteers by the way.

Spot on.

Surely this is a little Bizarre. You appear to attach an enormous importance to the influence of the Daily Mail. What about all the other new channels such as the BBC ? . It is hardly unbiased . Twitter? . Maybe rational people are happy with their decisions and yours are in a minority.

Not remotely bizarre. All media is biased even the supposedly unbiased BBC. But few are as insidious as The Daily Mail. If there was an equivalent Communist biased paper I would crticise them too, but there isn’t!

there are actually several

Enjoying your posts but I think that’s a bit of a stretch. The Morning Star was the last communist newspaper and it’s circulation was never as high as the Daily Heil

Daily Heil???? Move on FFS!

Why? It was the Daily Fail that tried to make a story out of nothing which led to copious amounts of police time being wasted at vast expense….not to mention all that newsprint FFS indeed!"

My question, and now quite frankly, the exasperation was aimed at the boring play on words. Some people think it’s clever but it’s been dull for years and now appears rather childish.

You should take a look at the history of the Daily Mail pre-WW2.

They were supportive of Hitler and Moseley and even after war broke out they were so cavalier with the truth about the likelihood of actual hostilities breaking out that over and above any other media outlet they were responsible for the ultimate shock of of the BEF being routed and the catastrophic evacuations at Dunkirk. Something that i would suggest that the country has still not really come to terms with 80+ years later.

The Daily Mail was openly supportive of fascism hence its nickname of Daily Heil. There is a reason for everything.

They have got on the same page as the Tories in that they do not seek to rejoin, or go into the customs union or single market. Both Tories and Labour now have this position. I think it's good they have made their position clear and wait to hear from them how they will make it work better

This does sound good.

For the Tories, in fairness to them, Brexit is going exactly as they wanted it to.

As for Labour, it will be interesting to see if they propose something solid that would tackle the problems caused by brexit, or if they will just bluster.

On top of that, it would appear that a lot of people vote for catchy slogans like "get brexit done", which was an extremely effective campaign message. Although completely devoid of any information.

i took my local conservative council to court when they attempted to ban these publications and the court forced the council to provide the newspapers in libraries and other local authority buildings where they provided balance to the right leaning newspapers the council provided. the council attempted to sue me and i was awarded several thousand pounds when the case was tossed out. i was awarded further thousands when their appeal also failed.

i have never really been interested in reading these publications owing to my being a firm centrist. "

My point remains, not one of those is a mainstream media outlet with remotely the circulation and reach of the papers owned by the Daily Mail group. They are niche at best.

However I do not think that you read the Daily Mail with any intention of taking an objective view of its content. Your objective appears to be only to find fault with it. My guess is that derogatory comments towards political parties or politicians with whom you disagree are perfectly acceptable to you. Criticism only becomes an issue it it is against a policy that you support , otherwise anything goes. ."

Not remotely true. My business requires me to have a good understanding of the editorial bias of all MSM. I would be more than happy to see the DM take an objective stance in something that matters, anything, but they don’t. They are what they are. At least we know.

Pat you know this but will continue with your satire which is fine and often amusing, but the imbalance is pronounced with The Daily Fail. Go back and check the column inches devoted to beergate and compare to partygate. Complete lack of objectivity!

My point remains, not one of those is a mainstream media outlet with remotely the circulation and reach of the papers owned by the Daily Mail group. They are niche at best."

circulation is unimortant to be fair. there are still a plethora of communist newspapers in print in the UK.

"Enjoying your posts but I think that’s a bit of a stretch. The Morning Star was the last communist newspaper and it’s circulation was never as high as the Daily Heil

among others are The News Line, The New Worker, Weekly Worker, Socialist Appeal ... others are also available.

"A couple of my friends read the Sun. They are lovely guys & would do anything for you. It’s not my paper of choice but I wouldn’t dare to be so rude as to criticise them for their choice. How rude would that be.

They are not right wing fascists or Brexiteers by the way.

Spot on.

Why? It was the Daily Fail that tried to make a story out of nothing which led to copious amounts of police time being wasted at vast expense….not to mention all that newsprint FFS indeed!

My question, and now quite frankly, the exasperation was aimed at the boring play on words. Some people think it’s clever but it’s been dull for years and now appears rather childish.

So, rise above it if it upsets you….turn your cheek like Jesus would have! It’s only a politics forum on a swingers website after all!

You are so right on that, well said. I feel it’s my duty though to keep check smart arses in check.

Nothing like a self appointed guardian of standards. I don’t care if it is childish or smart arsed. The Daily Heil / Daily Fail is a vile scandal rag masquerading as a serious newspaper. It is an insidious piece of trash and deserves all the ridicule and criticism that gets thrown at it. Sorry if that upsets you

Doesn’t upset me at all. I choose not to read it and have no views on it either way. Does make me laugh though that some seemingly intelligent people get so upset by it and feel the need to role out the tired old play on words."

"No rules were broken, thoughts and prayers go out to Daily Mail readers at this difficult time

I heard that the cost of energy will be going down as the burning intensity of the rage from the Daily Mail readers can provide enough electricity to last us an entire month.

Work is a distant memory for most lol! "

Hence why they’ve had to payout for lies on multiple occasions?

I never said that I was upset. You do like to change things to suit your own narrow minded self assumed superior narrative. Nasty stuff really. Amazing what people can get away with when they have a keyboard and anonymity.

Easy to toss out the ‘racist’ label and get a few sops to lap it up.
