A few commentators tried to warn during the lockdown that every day of it would mean more inflation, higher taxes and a slower recovery, they were called callous killers !
Now, those who demanded the strictest possible restrictions rage about the consequences, I.e. the Labour Party.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t have had some lockdowns, but to have most of the country shut up shop for nearly a year and a half, furlough paid for people to sit in their gardens and then when the economic pain hits and we have nothing left in the pot for pay rises, etc then should anyone be surprised ? |

I’m not sure anyone called for the strictest lockdowns possible, if I remember correctly Labour was largely supportive of the lockdowns other than that they were started too late and ended too quickly. |

The effects of the virus are dwarfed by Brexit, which continues to inflict economic damage to the UK. The creation and 'management' of austerity measures, Brexit and the pandemic, are fully the responsibility of the party in charge. There are many £billions of public funds unaccounted for, which highlights the fiscal capabilities of this lot.
In any event, the OP is a peculiar item, being a lightly veiled attempt to complain about lockdowns, all parties working mainly in unison, during a national emergency and yet not really producing a hindsight and evidence based alternative. |

You forgot to mention the PPE contracts given out to many Tories/ pub landlords and American jewellers to name a few and the 37 billion for track and trace.
I remember Labour being supportive when lockdowns happened. They did however shout when another wave hit and the Gov seemed late in acting, they were proved right to shout as the Gov ordered another lockdown.
To be fair, your post looks just like an attack on the little people and the Labour party both of which have no say in what the Government decide to do
To the question, I am guessing most of us guessed when the pandemic hit that we would all have to pay for years for this as the Gov was making sure people had money to live on ( which was a good thing )I was happy to do that as it needed to be done to help people live while having to stay at home ( not their fault, they were ordered to stay at home ) But I object to paying for the billions given for defective PPE and a T&T that was a money maker for someone. |

Furlough wasn't paid for people to sit in their gardens. What on earth makes you think it was? It was paid to people who *through no fault of their own* couldn't go to work because it was closed.
I know you know this but the more often stuff like this goes unchallenged the more people actually believe that furloughed workers woke up one morning and decided to sit in their garden rather than go to work.
As far as I'm aware the strictest lockdowns were demanded by the current government's scientific advisers.

£30m is to the country what it's like for a millionaire to buy you a pint of beer, insignificant. |

30m would have provided nutritious food to thousands of poor children or even some ambulances for our country.

Aside from your rather silly description of furloughed workers, your little rant only works if we believe that there is nothing left in the pot.
Believe me, when the government want to find money, they will. |

Brexit is the primary cause of higher inflation and our weakened economy, not Covid. Point the finger at the party in Government, as they have the power to do something about it but have so far failed spectacularly. |

The lockdown esp the first and harshest one was all based on a doomsday model, devised by until then faceless no bodies, that suddenly had the power of life and death in their sweaty palms. Even when the figures supported opening up parts of the economy earlier they refused to give up their new position of power, one sector I have experience of being fucked over esp by the snp is fitness, despite figures showing healthy people were less at risk, people with a lower bmi less risk, and the mental health aspect a group of power crazed fools who have never seen the inside of a gym kept things closed till almost the last minute, now Scottish rail will hold the country to ransom over pay and conditions, the snp will beg the dreaded UK parliament for more money then say its theirs.
But I digress the strikes, inflation ect are the price of scientist playing God, and let's not start with the ever so effect vacine that is linked to how many heart attacks??????? |

Politicians and political party's use socialism and socialist policies to raid the chest, for their own benefit and the benefit of their associates and backers. Socialism in the modern democratic UK only benefits the ones at the top. |

Looking back at the first post it was about shortage of cash to make pay rises.
The reason people want pay rises is inflation eating into their income.
This inflation is caused by under supply of goods, caused by global lockdowns due to covid, that twat Putin, and poor harvests due to global warming. None of this is controlled by the UK government, no matter what colour tie they wear.
Unfortunately there is no instant correction and the economy will take time to settle.
Yes we all want a pay rise, and yes those in most need should get more support. But, there is no magic wand.

All you hear from the government and right wing press is train drivers earn 60k a year, but this strike is about safety they want to reduce track workers by 50% and replace them with drones and trains with cameras to detect faults on the line, also the rail workers pensions are being reduced, they are also being told to work longer hours, and haven’t had a real terms pay rise in years as many of us haven’t in many sectors, I’m sure if peoples jobs were at risk you would strike if you could, we need to stand together it’s always the workers who have to just suck it up never the rail companies who are making millions year on year and are mostly owned by the governments of Germany and France. |

An actual question i dont know the answer to...
Why are politicians pay rises not linked to that of public sector workers?
Genuinely, not being cynical, is there a reason?

poor decisions that have been taken over the last 12 years have weakened the country so much that we currently find ourselves in such a devastating catastrophy. perhaps if the government had been fixing the roof while the sun was shinning instead of allowing a free for all on the countries economy by foreign entities, we would be far more insulated from global pressures. |

Except it's not 'all caused by covid, Putin and global harvests'. The Bank of England reps have pushed to increase interest rates, due to the weak pound, which increases import costs and inflation, plus the UK government since 2010 has squandered money, etc as many posts here emphasise, have not invested wisely, have trashed the economy by catastrophic Brexit management and other serious flaws. If all countries were equally affected, it would be very different. We're not. Neither are all citizens equally affected - the extremely wealthy have coined it in. Pay levels have declined, leaving the need for us to avoid any further race to the bottom. Immediately, people here need pay that's not going to make them sink any further, whilst inflation is astronomically high and soaring upwards. |

Show me any government, ever, that hasn't squandered money. And actually, if you compare how we dealt with Brexit when compared to other countries we haven't done to bad. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was unprecedented. We seem to have forgotten the over full hospitals and the real fear that tens of thousands would die. Now we are all back to normal due to vaccinations and a greater understanding, and to be honest, a blasé view that 'its only covid' because of the vaccination program where the government, and the NHS led the world. |

IPSA has decided that the annual adjustment to MPs’ basic pay for 2022-23 will be the same as the average increase in pay for public sector employees last year. They will therefore receive an increase of 2.7%, bringing the overall salary from £81,932 to £84,144 from 1 April 2022. |

I mean socialism, bank bailouts, energy grants from the government to the individual that can only go to the energy companies I call that a bailout.

Look at it, so many people falling for the tory lie, it was somehow our fault. Historically that’s what the ruling class want you to believe that you are suffering now because you were responsible for the spread of covid.
Its like no one in this country knows the true history of this nation, preferring to believe this sanitised version of events authored by the ruling elite.
They are treating you like a bunch of donkeys yet you still bray for the rancid carrot they provide. |

Cannot get my head around it, probably because we don't have a socialist government and thanks to Thatcher we have less government controlled corporations like utilities, trains and some. If you're on about our so-called democratically elected governments abusing their powers/privileges and the coffers, well no shit Sherlock springs to mind. |

Btw, use of "historically" is not quite apt when talking of months (from November 2019?) and is also ongoing. |

Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your shackles, never was a truer word written and sadly as appropriate today as when it was written , have we not learnt anything about the ruling classes, wake up.and to the working class snobs who seem it makes then a better person voting and defending this goverment you are selling yourselves short, you are and can be a so much better person so why support a government who have ripped apart the moral fabric of this country for personal gain.
We look up at the high table, grateful for any morsel they choose to throw our way, then fight each other for just a small part of of it to survive ,they look down on us smirking, congratulating themselves on there generosity GB 2022. |
