In the face of this royalist jubilee romp what are us sterner republicans going to get up to instead of waving flags and eating cake off a wobbly table outside your house?

Without the Queen we could have President B.Johnson or President Piers Morgan or President J. Rees-Mogg or ...

I will stick with the Queen personally. She is Non-political. Most people would support her if there was an attack on our peace.

Fair.

I'm taking the bank holiday too, but I find it all a bit embarrassing, the subservience.

I will be at a jubilee party and people will probably assume that I approve of the thing, but the cause I'm supporting is the happiness of Bertha and Robert etc (fake names) who need someone to fetch and carry, and think this is all marvellous.

So, what protection has the Queen provided against Johnson breaching parliamentary codes, breaking the law, threatening to break international law?

Alternatives to monarchy: how many hungry children could be fed, nurses could be employed, potholes could be filled if we stopped funding their lavish cosplay?

The Queen isn't anti-political and lobbies for/against things all the time. Not just the queen - e.g. Prince Charles lobbied so hard in favour of Homeopathy (literally fake medicine) that it's offered on the NHS, despite recommendations otherwise.

The alternative isn't "President Boris" - many countries have a constitutional parliamentary Republic. Germany and Ireland come to mind (Ireland's President is pretty great actually, even though politicians are otherwise considered not much different to here in the UK).

The British people could elect a head of state to represent the country, and continue electing MPs/a PM to parliament just like we do now (and with the same powers).

The only real, unequivocal benefit we get from the queen is tourism/cultural reach - which we would still have since people are only advocating for a republic and not regicide or anything. So you'd still have the palaces and the "keep calm and carry on" kitsch, and whatever else it is people seem to pay a lot of money to see.

I mean, in all seriousness - enjoy the bank holiday? To most people it's just a party and an excuse to have a day off work.

We're not a nation of royalists, just as we love Christmas but we're not, by and large, Christian.

When you pull down the bunting, have a think about whether you'd like a choice in our head of state. You could always elect Prince Charles if you really want him? But I suspect most people don't.

I do feel that most of the stuff I see going on is commercialism.

There was a Jubilee discount for (competitor to Love Honey) last weekend. I'm sure the Queen would find that dignified, appropriate, and respectful

If you do not want to live in this country with the Queen and her family,if you hate what they stand for, then please feel free to leave this country maybe go live where you can’t voice opinions like you are here, maybe Russia with good old Putin dragging ur family in for the slightest wrong doing, or maybe North Korea. Why should anyone have to leave the country they were born in because they don’t agree with an archaic institution of an incumbent ’elite’ family that were neither voted for or can be voted out?

As for work dodgers and benefit fiddlers sucking money away, while slightly relevant- the huge corporations dodging paying a fair proportion of tax while paying minimal wages and lobbying to keep this bias, causing a huge need for income support to be paid to its workforce by the state, while it’s shareholders cream off massive dividends- many of who are probably based off shore and contribute nothing to the UK, should bring greater concern than dodgy Dave doing a few hours of cash in hand while claiming dole

"If you are trying to make Britain better fuck off to Russia or North Korea"?

This diatribe demonstrates a staggering lack of understanding of British history. The Britain of the Magna Carta? The Britain of John Locke's essays denouncing the divine right of kings?

You don't understand what you pretend to love, and what you love isn't Britain.

Just to clarify… it completely depends on individual wording in your CofE.

If it says; Entitlement is ‘x’ days including bank holidays (like us) = comes out of your entitlement and nothing you can do about it.

If it says; Entitlement is ‘x’ days plus bank holidays = company has to pay you.

Both of us would prefer to be at work but our respective employers are closing.

But then on fabs you need to do something to stand out, so what better than a throbbing red-breasted argument in favour of deporting anyone that doesn't sufficiently prostrate themselves in front of the royals

"Is the queen funding this herself ?"

Nope, we are. £28 million set aside by the treasury, plus any money spent by devolved administrations and local councils.

Some of the money is going into infrastructure - improving village halls, for example - but even then, there are surely better uses for the money.

"Is the queen funding this herself ?

Nope, we are. £28 million set aside by the treasury, plus any money spent by devolved administrations and local councils.

Some of the money is going into infrastructure - improving village halls, for example - but even then, there are surely better uses for the money.

"In the face of this royalist jubilee romp what are us sterner republicans going to get up to instead of waving flags and eating cake off a wobbly table outside your house?

I'm anti-all-that-kerfuffle but I will be celebrating because it doesn't hurt and will be good for mental health.

Live a little.

Best attitude for all this anachronistic nonsense, forget the royal family and enjoy the free time with your own

The plebs comment was to hightlight what the ruling class think of us all + the way they keep on top of us all. It's what they think, not me. Nice attempt at spin though.

As for your nastiness, do you really want to be reminded of the time you laughed about my friend dying + the fact I couldn't attend his funeral or comfort his widow in person?

Just enjoy your expensive celebration of being ruled over. Best leave it there.

"If you hate the monarchy so much, why not leave Britain and move somewhere else?? "

Because I believe in the British people. I've seen again and again the depths of their humanity, their compassion, their community, their ingenuity.

They are not defined by an anachronism.

"If you hate the monarchy so much, why not leave Britain and move somewhere else?? "

Because some of us love our country and not just the people who claim to own us?

If "us lefties" just left instead of putting the work in we'd still be under absolute rule. We'd still be property of a lord, not have any voting rights unless we were landed men, tortured and killed for who we loved. I'm sure we could think of more.

If you like the queen then crack on but if you think Britain should be exclusively for people that agree with you I don't think you know what makes Britain great.

I'm not a royalist but my belief in republicanism is not strong enough to warrant moving elsewhere, as is the case for the vast majority of republicans, else we would have left.

People try to impress their sensibilities onto others, consciously and unconsciously. My love of Britain is not dependent on our head of state, nor on the incumbent PM. Simply telling others to move away if they don't like it is much more likely to reveal something about their own character than it is about someone else's.

So indifferent you think republicans should be entitled to less holidays?

Or indifferent like the person earlier who thought that free speech is wonderful and if you speak against the monarchy you should move to Russia or North Korea? (I'm not sure that's how free speech works, but hey)

I think George Cambridge is as entitled to wealth and privilege as George Bloggs of Moss Side.

I think Queen Elizabeth is as valuable as Elizabeth Smith who tried to shield Andrew Smith from the consequences of his predations

So far I've seen that republicans deserve less holiday, should go to Russia or North Korea if they disagree with the monarchy because free speech is good, and been told I won't give to charity as a republican. *Shrug* I've not said anything against royalists specifically, my issue is the institution. I respect their free speech to say what they like, believe they should not lose holiday for their views, and believe that support for the monarchy doesn't predict one's charitable proclivities. Imagine that

My best guess is that it's some sort of forgotten bot that's been trained on the Daily Mail comment section and is succumbing to significant bit rot.

"Is the queen funding this herself ?

Nope, we are. £28 million set aside by the treasury, plus any money spent by devolved administrations and local councils.

Some of the money is going into infrastructure - improving village halls, for example - but even then, there are surely better uses for the money.

(we're also spending £12 million on books about the queen to send to schools - schools that could really do with the cash instead)what a fucking waste can’t believe she’s not paying for it out of the hundreds of millions she as it’s disgusting

It's an amazing waste of money

Ah but the plebs need to know their place. You can't put a price on that...Plebs its a great day in history that probably no one alive today will ever see again.Im loving it

Ahhh the simple pleasures + smiles of the cheerful pleb.gonna be a great fly pass just seen a few go overhead all those plebs in the mail are going to get a great spectacle.

There ya go. simple pleasures and all that. Here's to many more years under the heel.yeah i do feel sorry for you non plebs it must kill you seeing all the bunting the flags and millions of people enjoying themselves. All that smiling and happiness doesn't really suit non plebs mantra does it?

I'm happy when people are happy. + it's good that you know your place.Thats good news then because you dont ever seem so. Well i guess you agree with the celebrations then as it is making so many plebs happy?

I'm often happy. I'm just rarely happy when talking to you as you can become astonishingly nasty at times.

Have a great few days though.Me nasty do you actually think that calling people plebs actually endears yourself to people?

The plebs comment was to hightlight what the ruling class think of us all + the way they keep on top of us all. It's what they think, not me. Nice attempt at spin though.

As for your nastiness, do you really want to be reminded of the time you laughed about my friend dying + the fact I couldn't attend his funeral or comfort his widow in person?

Just enjoy your expensive celebration of being ruled over. Best leave it there.

yeah all the armed forces and ex forces personnel are all plebs by your reckoning then

You really don't listen at all, do you? I was clear above that it's what our rulers think of us all.

I notice you also managed to totally ignore the time you were unforgivably nasty.

I suggest you stop talking to me for a while. Have a great few days.

give it a rest we went through this all before.Rulers they are not ruling they are a symbol of Great Britain nothing more it seems to me you are the one with an inferior complex the rest of us enjoy the pomp and ceremony its what Britain does best. You just carry on being a victim if you want thats your problem.

Anyway im now off for a knees up with the rest of the plebs friends and family.Enjoy your misery.

I should give it a rest? I should just ignore the way you laughed at my friend dying + the fact I couldn't attend his funeral or comfort his widow due to lockdown?

"

Yes mate it doesn't matter how many times you keep repeating it and try to act like a victim it still doesn't make it true.

Ive an idea why not go back find the post and copy and paste it for everyone to see.

Anyway thanks queen for a great excuse to have a party lets hope there are many more.

I don't think Tom likes Inaswing ... He's always telling her to 'go home'. About time he stopped the bullying and respected other people's views.

"Think of the alternative....President Johnson

So, what protection has the Queen provided against Johnson breaching parliamentary codes, breaking the law, threatening to break international law?

Alternatives to monarchy: how many hungry children could be fed, nurses could be employed, potholes could be filled if we stopped funding their lavish cosplay?"

Agreed…all that pomp and sycophancy while people having to make choices between eating and heating…it’s bonkers

So you're flat out lying about it now. No surprise.

It was a thread quite a while back where you started replying with that stupid blue laughing face in response to me saying I cared about Johnson breaking the Covid law because my friend died + I couldn't attend his funeral or comfort his widow. I said you disgusted me and you laughed again. Seems you get off on the pain of others.

Seriously, please stop talking to me.

"If I block somebody, will I stop seeing their posts on here forever?"

No, and this is why many people burn out on the forums quite quickly.

There's disagreement, and there's getting off on winding people up. The right have had this "own the Libs", football team mentality for a little while now - "doesn't matter how many people die, my team are winning!" etc.
