Windfall Tax - A tory bribe because of Partygate

Reluctantly they slob has decided to get the labour policy of a windfall tax on fuel companies is going through.

With further tax cuts to help with the cost of living crisis.

Would he have done this if Partygate didn’t happen, I think not?

But a massive victory for SKS and the Labour Party as they have pushed something through without being in power. Well done!

The Tories never do the right thing by the majority of the UK people unless they are dragged kicking and screaming into doing it.

It took a pandemic the last time.

The crisis before that, they did austerity.

Not for themselves - or their Russian friends - obviously.

We'll wait and see what they've been forced into this time; but if they expect gratitude - and they will - they can fuck off.

Windfall taxes have been used by the Conservative party in the past…it’s nothing new. Laughable to think the Labour have achieved any victory whatsoever.

I thought you and Mitzi were on the same side?

For weeks on here there have been people supporting Labour calls for a Windfall Tax and Tory supporters writing countless posts on why that was wrong, couldn’t work, shouldn’t be done. Hardly surprising this will be seen as a Labour victory! No gymnastics involved. Blatantly obvious.

Every time capitalism fails they turn to socialism to bail them out. Once done they go back to decrying socialism.

Energy windfall tax U turn..

Brought to you courtesy of law breaking piss heads, so off their faces in number 10 during lockdowns they fought each other and puked up..

Whilst using a karaoke machine brought into 'work' by Boris's advisor in ethics..

Beyond parody and sickening given the sacrifices made by the vast majority of decent people at the time..

Behaviour defended by sycophants and supplicants with similar moral defects no doubt ..

Getting On With The Job

If it's getting on with the job, why wait until now? We're nearly into summer. Labour called for a greater windfall tax than is being introduced. No one said a windfall tax was new. The last Wilson government introduced one, as did Thatcher and Cameron. It wasn't a new idea but Labour had called for it for weeks. I can tell you why they had to wait this long. Too busy trying to save the coward that occupies No10.

All the hardcore Tories on fab were against the windfall tax when it wasn't proposed by the government. Now suddenly behind it. Lolz.

Why wait ? they haven't people have received £150, its now summer so not so much spent on heating it makes sense to me to give the money when its needed.

It is simple really ...

1. Tories are funded by big business and the rich.

2. Big business needs the Tories in power so they are protected and have an economy in which they make loadsa money.

3. Business does not like windfall taxes so; "Tories say no".

4. Public opinion pressurises Tories to impose windfall taxes.

5. There is a good chance they will not be reelected so that is used as the excuse for imposing the tax.

6. The money will be given to the public to pay their energy bills so it is given back to the energy companies anyway.

7. Tories are looked on favourably by the public, big business gets back most of the extra tax it pays and everyone is happy.

People were even more in need of it weeks ago, not as summer is about to begin. However, if the plan was to wait all along, why were members of the cabinet, including the PM, saying they were against it in principle? They have an 80 seat majority and can essentially rule by decree. Yet, they are behaving like a government with an 8 seat majority and no leader, it's u-turns galore with this lot.

Simple. They don’t want to do it. Always prioritise shareholders over citizens. This is purely a saving face PR exercise (if it even happens).

Just a point to note. The windfall tax (if it happens) would be on upstream providers (companies like BP and Shell) not on the downstream utilities (like British Gas, EDF).

So points 6 & 7 are not correct.

You’re right! Such a great move, cutting and pasting policies from Labour, Labour are practically ruling by proxy now.

Tories are weak, and getting weaker everyday the “big slob” is PM, better get rid, or as one Tory MP said, they are going to lose the next election.

Did labour graciously acknowledge they were using a lib/dem policy? it seems they are claiming the idea when the lib /dems brought it up 1st.

It is possible which i know a lot of people on here will find it hard to understand that all the partys sometimes agree on things.

I think you will find they were not ruling it out.Why so long? well im only guessing but if you are going to implement something you need to get the policy and figures right, its so easy when its not your responsibility to say you will do something it takes a bit longer when you actually have to.But just my opinion.

but windfalls tax deter investments ... I don't think it's the right way forward.

Aren't they now taxing investments in jobs, wealtn creation, new tech ...

It's disasteroius. It's not serious.

All taken from Tory quotes. From Boris thru to Raab.

While they may not have ruled it out (a good politician never says never) they weren't fans. The very least is they should explain why all their concerns are now less ....

Apart from sharing the name windfall tax is today's announcement what Labour asked for?. I imagined the tax to be a one off big lump sum as I assumed that's how they were done in the past. Today's announcement is for a 25% tax which is to continue as long as prices remain high. In the unlikely event prices come down quickly then the government won't collect as much as they give out. But if prices remain high and therefore the 25% extra applies they could take more than they give out. A slight caveat is the company's can get a reduction if they show they are investing in the UK substantially

Give £400.

Keep £100 to pay for State parasites.

When will UK wake up to CONSocialism under The Fat Blair , understand all tax is theft, and that the solution to the ScamDemic and its obvious fallout, isn't more government?

I think you’re confused, it is a one off tax, set for a short period of time e.g. 12 months. Then it will stop after that. It not some super tax raid, it’s like all tax on monthly income, people got some weird ideas about tax, you give companies the opportunity to make the money before you tax them geez.

Firstly as a tenant if you pay your council the rebate is paid directly to you. Secondly you don't have to have a bank account to receive this as you can get it in a voucher that you can cash at the Post Office. Thirdly it is easy to apply for if you do not have DD set up.

id argue against that.

But that wasn't the point... It's been badged as a one off. So like the lab plan. Not as suggested ban ongoing tax. As someone suggested.

I've not looked at the detail but it doesn't sound like it's a huge difference in approach. Just don't call it a windfall tax ....

Being confused is nothing new to me. I just had this image of the bosses of places like BP opening the mail to find a huge bill from the government to be paid in one go. Being an increase in tax that they pay regularly does make more sense and is easier to extend past the 12 months if prices are still high

Uber capitalism is great as long as the sun is shining, the rain falls at night and the wheat grows healthily. You make the right decisions, work hard and life can be good.

Unfortunately, shit happens - like wars, catastrophic global events and eccentric political mistakes. At times like that, policies that are socially inclusive and representative of the people are inevitably needed.

Brexit, Covid and the war in Ukraine has made me realise that short term gain is not better than long term stability.

Bring on re-nationalised energy and transport and bring on a newer form of representative governance and a written Constitution.

Yes, this is clearly designed to distract from partygate.

That said, ousting Boris doesn't put money back in our bank account, or reduce our fuel bills.
