That’s because Poland were ending gas from the New Year anyway so Russia are trying to make a show of it now
As for Germany they have a lot more Russian gas than Poland, but will have to wait and see |

"Good job they got plenty of options coming online
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-61237519
My guess is Germany may be next now they are sending some well publicised weapons system"
Then pressure will be on LNG, more price hikes to highest bidder. |

Its now a question of Brinksmanship, who will capitulate first, who will back down.
Russia knows it will become a third rate country the faster we move away fossil fuels, it knows full well its ability to influence key decisions in the globe is waning, just as all the other fuel producers are noting.
This is the last hurrah for them, Pootin, knows this war in Ukraine is not sustainable, the amount of money its costing is literally running the country dry fiscally.
Of course his tactics are brutal, because they are designed to end the war swiftly. But Ukraine and its brave fighters are hurting him, and its hurting his pocket quite hard.
SO Russia can say what it wants all the time, it turns off the Gas and Oil, guess what? its quicker for those countries who currently get their gas and oil to go somewhere else.
At the same time, China is going into Economic slowdown due to the pandemic, which is making china spend less on fuel, which is a double whammy at the moment, as prices will eventually come down.
With the other OPEC nations they are pretty much going to realise thet waiting it out isn't going to have the desired effect, as economic slow down hurt their pockets as much as anyone else. So they will have to place nicely once again. |

"
Bulgaria is also on the naughty list!!
Remember they already threatened Germany and France by saying they wanted those payments in roubles … and when they said no, they blinked
They won’t cut of them because they then lose any leverage they have left |

There are ways around it, problem is, government don't want to support it.
Said it before, my reliance on fossil fuel will be 4x 47kg LPG bottles in the coming 12 months.
The rest will be provided by the roof at an investment of £7500 over the last 5 years and also gives power when Grid supply is down.
Don't know why people think we are isolated from it. LNG will be like Rocking Horse Shit by the end of the year as everyone will want it. |

Putin said all unfriendly countries had to pay in Roubles or not have the gas.
The UK is in his eyes the most unfriendly coutry so why he has not cut off gas already is beyond me?.
Unless the uk has allready cut back on the little we were importing.

Because Russian oil and gas only accounts for about 7% of that used in the UK energy industry ( funny enough mainly used in diesel production) and it basically not be using any from the end of the year
Poland were on the way to becoming energy independent of Russia anyway, hoping to be there by next year… the Baltic states had the foresight to see this coming so they are already energy independent just in case Russia ever thought about playing that card.
The ones to really look out for are France, Germany and Italy … |

Didn’t see this and just started another thread but will repeat here...
So it is getting increasingly likely that the EU/EEA will invoke the emergency energy protocol in order to stop dependence on Russian Gas.
Norway will be obliged to prioritise gas supplies to EU countries as a condition of their EEA membership.
That means as a third country the UK will need to source gas to replace Norwegian gas. Likely causing further increases in prices.
Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving. |

Joe Biden has already been to Saudi and Qatar to secure supply of LNG. Europe has set up a "buying syndicate" to collectively pressure suppliers as a block.
Where does that leave us?
Solar market here has exploded after Price Cap rise and Zero VAT so alternative renewables is at least 3 months to get an installation. I'm in 6 week wait for 2x 6kw inverters.
Panels of decent size not available until July in many places who are now 'cashing in' with price hikes.
So much for planning.. |

BBC are saying that Poland and Bulgaria tried paying direct in euro's as their contract states but other European nations have been paying into a Russian bank that converts it into troubles for them. It was a work around to save face to both sides |

The European nations that are doing this are apparently Austria and Hungary…. Austria are Further to the right than most and Orban is trying to stay on the right side Putin
I don’t think other countries will do it… |

I guess then we will find out soon who is and is not going down this route as those that are not paying in roubles will also very soon have gas bans. Bloomberg claim 10 European energy companies are preparing to pay Gazprom in troubles and 4 already have. Not sure how they know this though |

Some are not so lucky..
Martin Lewis didn't help with his spouting do nothing, who is now on YouTube every two weeks with his War Room Bunker updates which is nothing more than an effort to remain "relevant".
Glad I ignored him.. many didn't.

Indeed - and the notion that any of those countries are going to crash their economies just because the UK government is all upset about them partly funding Putin's war against Ukraine, is utterly ridiculous.
Their governments are going to act in the best interests of their people; as we expect ours to do.
Although, as we well know, that often leads to disappointment. |

Energy companies have had a warning shot fired across their bows by the EU commission by stating that if they set up another account in roubles for the purpose of paying gazprom which was specifically stated in contracts they pay in euros, it will be seen as circumvention and an act of breaking EU sanctions

It doesn't seem to be stopping them going ahead. Seems to be some confusion as to if it breaks the sanctions given how the transaction is being done. Either way these companies who buy gas for their respective countries seem to agree to pay up. I guess it's that or gas shortage |

The EU will commit to turning the entire supply off from Russia to keep solidarity in the union. |

I very much doubt it. More likely the individual members will look after themselves and to hell with solidarity |
