Posiden Aircraft

So, now that the cat is out the bag that a US Posiden aircraft was loitering over the Black Sea and during the 3 hours that its Swalk and tracking system were switched off, a flagship Russian Warship is hit.

It now transpires that during these 3 hours of blackout that the US were monitoring and passing location details of the Russian fleet to the Ukrainians in order for them to target it.

So, next time, how will the US Government respond when one of their surveillance aircraft is 'accidentally' shot down over the Black Sea.

Some things are best unsaid!

Johnson bragging we're giving tanks and training Ukrainians over here to operate them. Again, these things are best kept classified as before we know it, Putin will see it as an act of war and start threatening us as already hinted.

A secret country giving Migs to Ukraine. Now let me think, it wouldn't be the same country that was all over the media 3 weeks ago?

It's not scare tactics, they don't work and will just give Putin the right to accuse of aggression.

The "MSM" is allegedly following some secret "woke" script orchestrated by some unknown group. It is also unable to report freely because it is busy reporting only what the government wants. Simultaneously it is publishing too much information on "irrelevant" subjects like government corruption as well as military secrets.

Addressing your point directly, if an activity could be tracked without difficulty then it should be reported just as openly. It's nothing that the Russians don't already know.

Discussions about the supply of weapons is also a balance between showing open support for Ukraine and intelligence on exactly what systems are being supplied and when. This is down to governments and in this case they may well have the balance a bit wrong.

Sounds really dangerous thing to get involved with.

There was an analyst interviewed a few weeks ago who said the Ukraine war can easily escalate into ww3 and an incident like that would trigger it

Absolutely not.. but

They should just do it quietly.

Russia would not have a feckin clue how that ships position was reported. Satellite, drone, surveillance aircraft, other shipping but it should not be laid bare in the public domain that the US did it.

Keep the bastards guessing and as for the other weapons being sent, let them try n work out what's hitting them.

Maybe, if Ukraine had kept quiet over which missles hit the ship, the factory might still be standing today.

I was always told to treat enemies like mushrooms - keep them in the dark and feed them shit!

No one said we shouldn't assist, I fully support it. However, it should be very vague what's reported in the media and not go bragging about it for brownie points.

That report from that aircraft, cost Russia over 400 lives (we know the truth). They may want revenge for it and as said, that kind of involvement might be a step too far for Putin.

I didn't disagree with you except for there being no purpose in concealing information that is publicly available.

Not making it publicly available to begin with is a different matter. That's the responsibility of governments, not the press.

No, but you are creating a paradox.

Help Ukraine, but not in any meaningful military sense in case it "antagonists" a country that invaded it's neighbor of its own volition.

Is medical aid and clothing of any use of Ukrainians have nothing to defend themselves with?

What are Western States allowed to do that will not upset Russia?

Your the one in a paradox. You don't want ww3 but you want NATO meddling.

So far stepping up support for the Ukraine with supplying weapons .

You can't Have half measures.. you either stay out of it totally or get stuck into a war with a full on conflict, not tweak around the edges

Not confused. Russia will say whatever it wants to, regardless of reality, to escalate or not.

No direct military engagement is fine. If the targeting did happen, then that is very close the line, but one that Russia has happily crossed many times.

NATO forces do not regularly fly into Russian airspace. Russia has for years. Is that a provocation?

So you are saying that Western nations should not help the Ukraine in any way? No supplies, no sanctions?

How is that different to letting Russia do what it wants if they have boots and tanks on the ground?

Say what you think should be done by Western nations.

Maybe the US *is* feeding them shit. Maybe that aircraft wasn't actually there, and the Americans are just saying that so that the Russians will think that their radar isn't good enough. Maybe the Americans are just attracting attention, to get the Russians to focus on their aircraft and detract attention from the real method of ship locating.

You should never believe anything said by either side in a war.

It's easy to see which surveillance aircraft are in flight (24 hours a day) around Ukraine and neighbouring countries. Russia is well aware of this, as you can see yourself just by having a look. Russia would not imagine for a moment that the West isn't feeding that info' back to Ukrainian MOD.

Bollocks, you see what they want you to see, you won't see what they don't want you to see.

It really isn't easy to see which aircraft are in the sky if they don't want to be seen. It's even harder if they're away from land, where the radar has to be based.

The Poseidon isn't even vaguely stealthy, but it isn't easy for the Russians to be certain where one is. Other aircraft are stealthy, and they will be much harder to spot.

The real point is that those aircraft are there and without doubt are sharing with Ukrainian MOD. The Russians will know that they are - the OP posited that what will the Russians do about it. Nothing at all, just wish it wasn't true.

Another post explained how the Moskva was unable to see the incoming missiles as its 360 degree radar was being distracted by a Ukrainian drone and its other radar was unable to see the surface skimming missiles which is tactically interesting but does make you wonder how much aerial intel the Ukrainians were fed to enable this?

"They are reporting themselves."

Obviously I'm not making myself clear.

Yes, the aircraft that you can see are reporting themselves. They could easily stop doing so. That means that there could be aircraft out there that no one knows about. Equally they could be misreporting, either their position, or their type. There could be American attack drones up there pretending to be Poseidons.

No one doubts that the Americans are passing Intel to Ukraine. The OP stated that the Americans have admitted that the information came from a Poseidon. We don't know that to be true, and it could easily be a double-bluff to hide the true source of the Intel.

Yes, flightradar24 takes lots of other information from other sources, but their plane position information is based on what the aircraft themselves report.

The fact is that a satellite receives an unencrypted signal giving it positional and other information about an aircraft.

Nothing to say it actually came from an aircraft or that if it did that the position was actually correct is there ?

You see what someone wants you to see.

For example you'll see many refuelling aircraft circling for hours but you won't see what they're refuelling.

It's easy to see how the Russians succeeded in voting the UK out of Europe

For example you'll see many refuelling aircraft circling for hours but you won't see what they're refuelling.

hahaha now that's funny.

Really ?"

"And how many are out there that you can't see.

Are you certain that all of the 4 reported as there are actually there?

They are reporting themselves.

Or is this all a bit Schrödinger's Cat lol

The real point is that those aircraft are there and without doubt are sharing with Ukrainian MOD. The Russians will know that they are - the OP posited that what will the Russians do about it. Nothing at all, just wish it wasn't true.

No they're not reporting themselves.

Do some research on how flightradar24 works lol

I know exactly how it works - so your point is?"

Hooray more angry couples

In this day and age you don't need surveillance aircraft to track ships at sea.

An aircraft sat over the Russian ship jamming its radars would need some serious power and equipment. It would also rely on the warship not having modern anti jam systems and radar.

They would have known the aircraft was about and may have decided to switch off all emitters, but they would still have electronic warfare suites online.

No matter who helped give data to who, the ship got whacked by its own incompetence, coupled with incompetence of those that should have been monitoring the wider airspace who could have alerted them.

From what I've seen of the Russians they seem to be doing a good job of supplying information directly to Ukraine themselves. In this world of modern equipment some of the oldest rules are now just as important. If you make a 'noise' in whatever format, you can be tracked.

As for WW3, if you want peace prepare for war. If we shy away then there will be no peace. Russia might be talking it up, but I suspect the Chinese will not let them destroy their market place, not even the Chinese are that daft.

Seems some are apologetic for giving weapons to Ukraine, and we shouldn't help, really, Putin crossed the line (a border) and all the weapons in the western world should be available to make them step back out of Ukraine territory.

"We're not supplying tanks, we are stationing ours in Poland to replace the ones they've given Ukraine.

Nobody said that we were.

We are supplying weapons that destroy tanks, amongst other things."

must have misread this bit in the original post..

"Johnson bragging we're giving tanks and training Ukrainians over here to operate them."
